Planning to start a FOWLR tank !
shahril replied to CookieCrunch's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Let me chime in..but dont mind im a newbie too... i change 5 pail weekly... sometimes 3.. hopefully no back problem one day.. thought of buying big drum and long hose for easier maintance. But need to figure out where to keep after use. My tank now 422. -
Haha.. totally agreed. Grain size also depend on what livestock u wanna keep. And also what best for your eyes.

I got no experience with black. But before i start into this hobby i do read bout white vs black sand. Most say white. Reasons as above mentioned. Im using white for 1.5 years and just love the way it look. Maybe any1 using black sand may give some feedback. Prefer not too fine and not too coarse. Reason being too fine u will have tons of sandstorm. Powerhead placement and power also play a part. Too coarse u may risk detritus being trap inside acting like a sink. I use not too fine and no problem so far. And my sandbed is only 1 inch deep which i vacuum every water change. Regarding fish n coral colour i think is their health n lighting play a major role. Again im a newbie. Still got lots to learn.

Hye ... im also a newbie.. but im using white.. i believe most of us here use white. Make tank look brighter and more natural at least from my view. Maybe experts can chime in.

Ic ic... thanks bro.. appreciate all the time and tips and advise from the bros above.. have a good and prosperous day ahead.
-
Hmm.. sounds encouraging.. but i know that everyones tank is different. Is your tank water 'sps clean' ?.
-
U r right... what makes me fall for yuma are the multi coloured ones n also the pink.. even single colour pink yuma are spectacular. But dont mind the other colored ones for learning. My husbandry i can say good. 20% water change weekly.(back breaking). 3× a week replace mechanical sponges. Been doing this for 1.5 years. So far so good.

Ic ic..... thank u bro.. anything bout mortality rate between the 2 bro? Sorry for all the questions.. im still crawling in saltwater..
-
Besides stable parameters, especially kh as u mentioned any special care needed? Acclimation period, placement lighting etc? And how bout their lifespan in most reefers aquarium compare to florida.
-
Appreciate your reply bro... i thought yuma is more x than florida. Please correct me if im wrong.. . i like the look of yuma at least for me..
-
Hye to all yuma collector.. hope somebody can share their experience with this beauty. Ive been researching bout ricordea yuma for quite some time but most will recommend florida instead of yuma. Do u guys mind sharing your experiences with these species. Is it true that their mortality rate is high? I never own one but would love or maybe own a carpet of yumas one day.

Any problem u encounter can always ask the experience reefers here .. iam no expert bro.. only research n research and also learn from mistakes.

Most of my livestocks from lfs bro..

Quarantine tank is necessary bro.. but to be honest i dont have 1. And so far so good. Its not that i dont want to have 1 but its the space issue. My 4x2x2 tank inside my room that share with my bro. Limited working space especially during water changes. Back breaking man. Btw, quarantine tank size also depend on the livestocks size that u wanna get. The bigger the better. So parameter wont fluctuate so much. More stable. If me i go with 2 feet tank for quarantine. Again this is depending on your fish size.

Butterfly r beautiful bro but the more harder to keep fish. U can be successful with butterfly bro. Make sure before u buy u observe them making sure they are heathy and eating n responsive. Still got no guarantee in the long run but u stand a better chance. Again i nver own a butterfly. I wish to own 1 but i cant cos of my yellow tang. He is the big bro in my tank now . Super fierce.

Ic ic.... i am no expert about more than 1 pair of clowns cos never keep more than that. Maybe some experts can help cos im no expert. But from what ive studied. Clowns can be aggressive towards other clowns. Better chance if add them all at the same time and have tons of territories for them. But to add lots of fish at the same time wont be good also cos your tank still fresh.so sorry bro got not much to u. As for me i try to stock with different different coloured fish.
-
Btw, agreed with the bros above.. nice scaping... im no good in scaping. Can be frustrating at times for me...
-
Hye bro.. if me i will get 1 pair of clownfish since there r also other fish in your list. As u plan to keep butterflyfish n angels it will be hit n miss if u plan to keep coral. But most important plan your stocking list as in what fish to go in first cos some r aggressive some cannot mix, etc.. and stock super slowly to build enough beneficial bacteria in your system

True... chaeto is the safest bet. Did tons of reading about it. Safest cos wont go assexual. But u need a big size of chaeto to remove small amount of nutrients.. but its still worth it..Not too sure bout mangrove though..

Thats a beautiful tank u got there.. mine nowhere near yours bro.. salute to u.. after think n think n think i decided to go with maxspect celestial.. 2 unit first for the start cos only got fish n water. If i need more light just to satisfy my eyes can just add more unit. . to all bros above appreciate all your advises and tips. Have a good n prosperous day ahead.

Hye bro.. i ever thought of the a350. That 1 more powerful than a150. Lagi best.. But i would need 2 of those bro for coverage. Actually i saw on youtube some1 using a350 single unit on a 100cm long tank. To me like not bad. But my tank 4 feet. Dunno can or not.. My tank nothing fancy bro. Water n fish only. Thats y i thought i want to buy a 150 x 2 piece. Everything simple. Matching with my simple tank.. bro btw u selling your a350 or only a suggestion? Just asking.

Thanks bro for highlighting to me.i didnt know that. I thought many reefer use these lights.. hehe.. on nano or supplement for bigger tanks. Btw, I did contact eco city hydroponics and was told that i can pre order the lights. So i believe that these lights only available via pre order.since have to preorder not sure if im going this route or the maxpect celestial.since its programmable.should be better. But narrower coverage. I dont care much about progarammable cos my setup super super basic. Just want wide spread using lesser unit.
-
Or any reefer might know or saw any lfs selling this light can let me know. Have been searching ups and downs..eco city hydroponics no more stock. Btw, have a prosperous day ahead. Sorry above wrong spelling.

Im looking for 2 x kessil a150 ocean blue. If any reefer have them lying around or decided not to use them please pm me..Preferably with goosenecks. Thank you and have a good and properous day ahead.

Since then i always buy fish when they r healthy and feeding and alert n responsive when i come close to the tank in the lfs.especially for the more sensitive fish.
