  2. Im using seachem purigen , seachem phosguard and Kent carbon as filtration for now . I really do hope they are beneficial worms , yesterday I found 2 huge bristle worms and a huge black bristle star . I just soaked my some of my rocks in budget NTUC bleach ( Im not sure if its pure they never say , only state that 97.5% inert compounds ) Im going to let it soak for maybe 3 hours then I'll soak it in vinegar . But how much vinegar should i use to remove the organics ? 1 part vinegar 1 part tap water ?
  3. I took out all my rocks liao :3 . Guess i have to wait for it to dry out before i add it into the tank again . Theres a small pieces of live rock in the tank as well as a sand bed. Earlier on , when i removed the rock works , there were lots of worms on the sand bed , some of them were really big , some of them were tiny . There was also a mini pistol shrimp . Anyways this means that my sand bed would help seed my future dried out rocks right ? I just poured 500ml of vinegar evenly among the rocks and heard some sizzling sound , i know thats not enough so im getting the really large ones from NTUC and soak them overnight . I'll then take them out and dry them for a week before rinsing it and placing it back into my tank for it to come to "live" again . Any thoughts?
  4. Guys i need your advise on this . So , just when i thought my tank was doing ok , with the parameters in tip top condition and rapid corraline growth , the crabs appeared . Ok maybe its just one or two of them , i thought . So i took out one rock and gave it a good wash . Out came 10+ crabs , many of them look like gorrila crabs . OK nevermind , maybe its just this rock , so i took out another rock and gave it a good wash . Out came the crabs and i decided to remove all my rocks and dry it under the sun . Whats left in my tank is 2 rocks of mushroom , a clown , and some algae eating blenny . I did left a few pieces of live rock that were smaller in size and had bigger holes so i could monitor them at night easily . My tank is a mess now , with detrititus flying everywhere . My question is , should I restart my tank ? Or allow my tank to go through a second cyling process with my sand bed being the main biological filtration as i do not have many rocks left . Also , how long would it take to completely dry out my live rock ? Can i add the dry rock directly to a running tank ?
  5. I've notice lots of hitch-hiker crabs in my live rock recently . I've tried the shrimp bait method but it only seems to work on my hermit crabs and doesn't even attract the hitch-hikers at all . Should i remove all my live rock and rinse them in tap water ? I did this one and it did help me remove one crab , however just when i thought it was all over , i found like alot of these , but they were relatively small in size . I was wondering if i could get a natural predation of these crabs , and since they are still small in size , maybe the coral banded shrimp might just be able to kill them . If this isnt possible , what should i do ? remove all my rocks and give them a good rinse? If i really did do that , would the other organisms die off and cause a ammonia spike ? Im afraid that the sudden change in salinity would kill off my beneficial bacteria . Since they come out during the night and are roughly the same color as the live rocks , im not able to take a pic of it . However , i did see it eat one of my scarlet cleaner shrimp ( though im not sure if it was even dead before the crab got to it ) , also there's a yellow stripe blenny that went missing . Other than that , there are no other casualties . My hermits never went missing , my big turbo snails are doing fine , my small false clown is ok and my algae blenny is still mowing down algae . Unlike the usual gorrila crabs , it does not have black tips and isn't really hairy , however it had some brown spots and shapes on its beige shell . Also , tonight i did see one of it grazing on algae matter? Thats weird . I didnt had a chance to take a better look of its claws but they arnt really very big and definitly not black . It has good camouflage with the live rock . Anyone might know what it is ?
  6. That was one of the few rocks i bought for the initial cycling process (the water quality initially was extremely bad ... Had bacteria bloom for days ) . It bleached out completely in the matter of days but after i place it right on top of my rock structure ( to create a cave like thing , recently ) It started to have coralline growth . Im currently dosing seachem complete twice a week However , cyano and diatoms are forming on my sand bed . I do stir them up if they grow too much and remove some of it , however it springs right back . I'll be running GFO really soon haha
  7. I used a toothbrush to swipe it off but it sticks haha
  8. It doesnt scrub off easily when i use a toothbrush to brush over it . Also theres a lime green version , dk thats corraline algae or some other type of algae
  9. There's coralline algae growth on my live rocks and its taking over it . Just last week it was just a small patch of red and purple , now its all over the rock . I heard online that coralline algae growth indicates good water parameters , is that true ? What are the benefits / disadvantages of coralline algae ? I also heard that they clog up the pores of live rocks , making it ineffective as a biological filtration oo

    GFO

Which GFO brands do you all use ? I heard that many people use ROWAphos but they are extremely expensive . Isn't GFO basically ferric oxide ? So is there any cheaper brands where i can buy in bulk ?
  11. Here's the list of 2nd hand equipment im looking for , please pm or leave a comment if you have that paticular equipment , thanks ! 1) Jebao WP 40 wave maker Condition : Anywhere from 7/10 - 9/10 2) Fluidized reactor with / without filter media Condition : Anywhere from 7/10 - 9/10 3) Bio home filtration media Cured / not cured also can 4) DI/ RO unit Condition : Anywhere from 7/10-9/10 Must be able to hit 0 TDS 5) JBJ auto top off system Condition: Anywhere from 7/10-9/10 Preferably 2nd hand items that you do not need to use anymore as I don't have alot of money with me currently!
  12. Looking for JEBAO wave maker , in working condition 8/10 can liaos ~
  13. pH , temperature and salinity is rather stable .
  14. K the ammonia spiked <0.25 ( the color was darker than 0ppm but lighter than 0.25ppm ) The nitrites are 0 The nitrates are 10 I think the ammonia spike could be due to table shrimp i placed inside a trap as well as a mini die off as i added a some live rocks into the system yesterday
  15. Those mushrooms still looks like .. nevermind ... However the other rock of mushroom looks fine . I think i would remove the unhealthy ones next week if they do not get better . Planning to let my tank mature for around 2 months before i add in LPS corals .
  16. The tank did went to 0 ammonia 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate before i added in some mushrooms and hermits. Anyways i caught that crab but i found a smaller one ( its white in color so it might be just a molt ) on some other rock . I do see some corraline coming back to live from bleaching on a piece of live rock . Havent tested for ammonia , nitrite and nitrate but I assume that they are all in acceptable levels as my snails are still grazing on the rocks .
  17. I don't think i would ba .. Don't wanna waste the time i spent last time .. I'll let the tank settle down and remove that little crab ~
  18. NOOOOOO omg i saw it ripped my skunk shrimp into 2 =.= Mannnnn my shrimp always the victim in my tank ... Im going to kill it tomorrow !@$#%
  19. Any way to remove them ? I also found a hairy crab ( brown with small black dots ) , however there are no black tips at the end of the claws , so maybe its not a gorrila crab . Anyhow , I would like to remove them but there the rock works are already in position so its a little hard to remove that particular rock . Is there a natural predator to such crabs ?
  20. Anyways can help ID the above algae? Its spreading so fast . One thing about them is that they sorta peel off but the underneath it is a greenish brown hairy algae like thing . Also the red hair / strands are can grow extremely long .

  23. Hi guys , I'm currently finding an old tunze 6015 nanostream or some other similar models for my red sea max 130. I'm also finding a cheap functional auto top off system or can also trade for a 60cm LED blue light . Its near brand new haven't used dddffor more than 1 month. However I bought it from Taiwan so idk the brand . Its really bright hahha , I got it at a price of 100+ sgd .
  24. K so today i went to Ah beng aquarium at pasir ris . Got 4 big snails ( i think its called turbo / trochus snail ) 1 small skunk cleaner shrimp and 1 algae blenny . I took the time to acclimate them personally over the course of about 45 minutes so the they look just fine . I also got some seachem phosguard and purigen , placed them in a fine mesh bag and dump them into the filtration compartment . I bought a salifert phosphate test kit and it showed <0.03 phosphates ( thats 3 hours after i added seachem phosguard ) So i think the algae problem is more or less solved . But im still not really sure why the shrooms look so sick
