  1. I'm looking for the mosaic leatherjacket as a species tank but am unsure of how to obtain them. They need a big tank though due to their eventual size of 2ft. Thinking of using a compressor chiller. Btw were your blue devil and garibaldi kept in very cool water at the supplier? How did you maintain the temp on the way home?
  2. I understand you already have a coldwater tank set up. Could you share with me how the livestock were imported, how you transported them and any pics of the tank, size and running cost? Really appreciate if you could help with this info!
  3. when I was keeping morays years back, I fed frozen silversides, squid and prawns with no problems. Not sure if cooking is really necessary and whether it will reduce nutritional content of the food
  4. Most I have seen are in freshwater, whereas from my understanding they are brackish/marine fish. Does anyone know where I can get them already in marine environments? I have tried to convert the freshwater ones back to salt but they are just too sensitive to survive.
  5. I understand that it's a cool water fish that needs temperature around 17-18 degrees. With a chiller though that shouldn't be a problem. Does anyone know where I can get a few?
  6. Agreed, I know they are toxic. Strangely they are listed as non reef safe but they are found in seagrass areas, which would mean they don't eat coral? I'm actually more worried that the cowfish might eat my filefish due to size difference haha
  7. I'm thinking of getting a scrawled cowfish. Any way to tell male from female? Any lfs has them? But I would like to know if they are compatible with my filefishes. If they aren't I wouldn't get them.
  8. Possible that the tank has a high bioload for it's size. They are producing lots of waste, hence nitrate buildup as the waste decomposes. Might be that you need to tune your skimmer up alittle to get rid of more waste
  9. I already run a chiller for my tropical marine tank, but to keep temperate fishes, I'm setting it to 17-18 degrees. Very big difference to the current 26 degrees
  10. hi bros, just wondering where you can get cool water fish such as arcana aurita and eubalichthys mosaicus in SG. how are they brought in and are they kept at low temperature throughout the journey and in holding tanks in SG? does dejong marine ship to any aquarium in SG?
  11. What food are you feeding? Imo pellets are the least polluting of all foods. Coral food twice a week is good enough. It's a good idea to check your bio balls for any detritus buildup and also any dead zones where decomposing matter could be gathering. Your sand bed could also be harbouring lots of decaying matter especially if it's deep.
  12. Agreed fully with you. Apparently though for the poly filter people generally replace them only once every 1-2 months. Seems like a good idea to have if it really works as it's very maintenance free. Btw I must thank you on your algone suggestion. It did remove nitrates from my fw system. For saltwater not yet as I overdosed polyp booster
  13. Wow looks good. It has good reviews on other forums too. Apparently it removes both nitrates and phosphates. Did you get a similar result? A great pity that it's so expensive though! Alittle off topic but I was wondering if it works in freshwater as well.
  14. Could be that you are doing too heavy feeding to observe a noticeable effect, or that the pad is not effective. Usually such things will work within 5 days. Perhaps you could cut down on feeding and wait about 3 days more to see results. For me personally though I found the pads way too expensive especially since I change my filter wool every week. My favourite to use is still AZ-NO3 wrt nitrate removal. It does it's job everytime but first time users need around 2 weeks to observe results with it.
  15. How long have you been using it for? Any result? From what I understand it acts as both a chemical and mechanical filter. It contains nitrate absorbing chemical matrices iirc, but I could be wrong
  16. we have all seen supermarkets with really cold water tanks for oysters, lobsters and turbots from temperate regions. any idea on the cost of maintaining such a setup?
  17. or are these parameters only important for reef aquariums
  18. For some reason in my case, if I were to dose daily I get high nitrate levels. I've measured my tank without dosing and get low levels. Not sure if it's meant to be dosed daily. For me that's the only thing I give my corals.
  19. I could be wrong, but imo, polyp booster is essentially a concentrated form of reef roids, and would be suitable as a coral food. Does anyone know how often to dose it? all it says is 1ml per 60 gallons.
  20. anyone used these to replenish trace elements in your aquarium? any results?
  21. Should be similar. They are made of the same material
  22. Agreed, but how do they keep all the bacteria alive in suspended animation in the bottle?
  23. apparently they work like filter wool but with the added benefit of chemical filtration http://www.acurel.com/index.php?option=com_k2&view=item&id=6:nitrate-reducing-pads&Itemid=67 anyone tried these before?
