  1. I believe its 3 year lease now, not even 10. haha you can say so, everything is becoming smaller, including our housing
  2. any of you face this problem? my display tank is clean, but despite all the filter wool and skimming, a layer of light brown slime is present on parts of my sump, in particular under my skimmer. when I switch off the return pump and switch it on again, this gunk will sometimes pour into my dt which is horrible to say the least. any way to solve this?
  3. from what I gather from the news, it said this "Those who wish to continue their farming businesses can then bid for new sites at Lim Chu Kang and Sungei Tengah from next year." are these new plots of land or existing plots that also have their current leases running out? sadly these plots will be smaller.
  4. wow, when was this and what was the price of the falcifer they paid? is it still alive? from what I understand there was a point where they were not collected for 10 years! any reason for this? surely there is demand for this fish P. guyanensis is a great candidate as it does not require as cold a temperature as far as I know
  5. such as scribble, gold flake etc by successful I mean with release of the gametes. if so what is the height of your tank?
  6. that looks impressive. I guess my problem was that I had dirt stuck in my sump. When I switched off a return pump and switched it on again, loads of stuff flew out from the water outlet into the tank. in the process of cleaning it now.
  7. anyone with bare bottom tanks with moderate fish stocking able to achieve close to zero nitrates?
  8. I see, so sand does not have much use in buffering KH or as a substrate for facultative anaerobes?
  9. apart from keeping bottom dwelling fish and jawfish of course. some people frown upon keeping fishes without sand but I don't understand the reason
  10. I see, whats the reason why they can't be obtained? I know the birch aquarium has a few. What about Prognathodes carlhubbsi? They look similar
  11. I understand these are rarely collected and require cool water. However have any been offered for sale? I keep my water at 22.9-23.5 degrees. Is this low enough? From what I understand they live in water 16-20 degrees.
  12. oh, I heard that they were breeding them in japan though
  13. that makes two people living in shelford, and one ex shelford resident (me)
  14. I personally feel that banning is not the solution. Do we really need our society to be so rule bound? Naturally if you have rules, it creates resentment and people will be less obliged to develop consideration, as these rules are forced upon them. The end goal should be to develop a society where people learn to exercise tolerance and consideration for others. We can't always have what we want or view things in the same paradigm as others. As we have seen, many smokers in this thread exercise consideration (not blowing into people's faces, not smoking around kids etc), so there shouldn't be a problem. I'm a non smoker too and hate second hand smoke but we are not alone on this planet. Live and let live.
  15. very interesting! how long have you had yours for?
  16. yeah could be. my nitrate level is around 3 at the moment. did a 10% water change and will do more. one thing I noticed was the bandit actually biting the fins of the filefishes, which I completely never expected. I never knew bandits to be actually that aggressive
  17. ah yes, I remember red sea aquarium! but wow, 60s or 70s would be impressive. most people were keeping goldfish in tin cans back then
  18. Just a matter of curiosity, and what did they sell?
  19. Has anyone kept these? They have the most amazing pulsating light
  20. is there a way to make marine very profitable though?
  21. I noticed that hikari makes a product called mega marine angel which contains aquacultured sponge. Where are these sponges from?
  22. Just yesterday I had an orange spot file die after exhibiting similar symptoms. Fins appeared frayed and a slight white coating was present on some parts of the fish. Two more of my filefish are exhibiting similar symptoms. My bandit also appears to have fin loss. Any idea on what it is and how to treat it?
  23. they should gazette it as a heritage preservation area, seriously
