  1. I noticed from time to time, large worms will start to craw out of my live rock. I killed at least six of them today. I am really worried that they will multiply beyond control and grow large enough to eat my fish. Any suggestions on what I should do? Much appreciated!
  2. If I can't tune the knob to the lowest possible level without flooding and causing skimmate to spill out of the container, does this mean I have too much proteins? Sorry for the noob question!
  3. What is the advantage of wet skin though? It seems to be really time consuming and you have to be there to check on it really often!
  4. There is a knob on my deltec skimmer that when I turn clockwise, increases the amount of skimmate produced to the extent that it overflows. May I know what this knob is for as well as the optimal level I should set it to? Thanks in advance!
  5. oh no its in a small tub. where is this mini donut thing you saw?
  6. yeah madpetz has something called reefgel, but it dissipates too fast in the water. how is azoo gel? does it stay as a gel for long? where do you buy it from?
  7. What if the foam is watery? What would that mean
  8. yeah they only spawn on algae and stuff like that, but apparently they do something called a flutter dive and stuff, before the female grasps onto some algae and mating actually occurs. mine were sometimes aggressive, but they have all gotten used to each other and don't show any aggression anymore
  9. Observed this strange twirling behaviour among two of my filefish, a male and female around 7-8cm in length. Is it the beginning of a courtship display?
  10. I understand some members here use two skimmers for their tank. would this lead to reduced efficiency of both skimmers which is counterproductive? heard from one member here that it works. what do you guys think? thank you!
  11. for your two skimmers, do they compete with each other to remove the excess protein content in that one ends up working much more than the other? I heard of that happening in some cases and proteins were not removed efficiently as a result
  12. what kind of foods are you feeding? is the pH drastically affected by the sulphur beads? how often do you need to change the beads?
  13. what about frozen foods? any doser for frozen foods like mysis?
  14. you mean those by polyp lab? I do use those. why do people use nitrate reactors in that case?
  15. mine is a deltec skimmer, most of the food I feed is frozen, such as reef gels for filefish and mysis for flashlight fish. I wish I could find alternative food sources but they have shown no interest in other types of food
  16. yeah I adjusted the water output level to the highest level as well as the lowest level. of course with the highest level we get the fastest water outflow, but with the lowest level, it takes awhile for the container to fill, but it does overflow if I leave it for about an hour. air flow is as per normal, nothing unusual in the amount. the cup itself is way above water level.
  17. are nitrate reactors effective at removing nitrates? those of you who have heavy feeding of frozen foods/heavily stocked tank, do you use a nitrate reactor? is it essential? or do you have other means of keeping the nitrates down. I'm not referring to a FOWLR but a reef system where nitrate params are critical.
  18. after I feed, the skimmer will start to froth up and overflow. it gets really annoying and even if I shut off the skimmer, it will overflow when I switch it on like about an hour or two later. any ways to prevent this?
  19. I was mistaken, the first unit I got was merely a DI unit, a week ago I bought an RO/DI unit and the levels are falling, but not drastically.
  20. no I have not, its a really good idea. but will it wash away the nutritive value?
  21. for example, how do you keep nitrates and phosphates down, how do you feed your corals and fish plus dose calcium, magnesium and maintain alk and salinity?
  22. Every time I see an Aiptasia in my tank I inject it with concentrated lime juice. That usually kills it. However new Aiptasia will emerge from different locations so every week I have to kill Aiptasia. Any reef safe way to kill Aiptasia once and for all?
  23. I use D-D test kit. Changed rowa about a week ago. Output seems to be fine and levels there are low, which is strange. Btw what's this about lanthanum chloride and where can one get it? Is it harmful to fish and corals?
  24. ok, is there any way I can remove the phosphate in the live rock? strange that it would be present in the rocks because I had the rocks for quite a few months, and the phosphate level was something like 0.04ppm
