You can use newspaper or trash bag to cover it for a few days. Alternatively you can use an algae scrubber to localise the algae growth away from your DT.

Bro... Your tank is fairly young so give it some time to stabilise. You should do more frequent water changes - maybe 30% every 3-4 days and turn on the lights less often to let the algae die off. I read that some reefers actually turn off the lights for a few days (4-5 days) consecutively to let diatoms and algae die off. I have a FOWLR which is more than 2 years old and I use Biopellet XL to reduce nitrate and a algae scrubber but its still hovering around 50ppm and my LS is doing fine.

Got mine shipped in from Taobao- China but the DC pump "kaput" now. I use timer with a small AC pump... Too me its just the same, just have to estimate the daily evaporation rate...

Biopallet XL is to get the nitrate level down... IMHO somehow or rather my nitrates builds up quickly when i use tap water resulting in diatoms. Maybe it's the silicate content in the tap water(my tap water did not contain or contain very very little nitrate when newly mixed - tested many times with different brands of test kits) so you must first get rid of diatoms. But my current Coraline only 2 small patches... Not sure if it'll multiply successfully or not... I also dose mg and ca previously- Coraline still didn't grow when my diatoms was there... I also dose Coraline Purple CX previously - also no use. Maybe other Bros have other experiences?

I think Coraline will not grow if you have diatoms... My tank is 2+ years old and I also using tap water and Prime like Bro kohanson- also no coraline. I think my nitrate too high (50ppm). But recently I used Biopallet XL (recommendation from Bro Yongshun) - now I see 2 small patches of it growing already... Hope to have more... See how it goes... Lol...

Thanks for the clarification... I'm not looking for any arguments or trouble here... Yes, our water does contain many traces elements which I did not question or mention at all. I'm only bringing up the high level of of nitrates that you have mention in your statement below: "I do understand that our tap water contains metals and high levels of nitrates. Whilst it is still possible for fish to endure..it is actually not the best thing since nitrates do bring fish sickness sometimes resulting in death too.would ro/di be the best solution then?"

No offence... I did read but It's not very high like what you have stated right?

I tested my tap water many times using different brands of test kits and I have never found nitrate in it... Imagine if there are nitrates in your drinking water - does that mean that something is decomposing in your water pipes?

Have you tested your tap water for nitrates?
