  1. My ammonia and nitrite are zero. But nitrate and phosphate high... Is this still part of cycling process ? I currently have cleaner shrimps, snails and starfish in the tank along with a couple of blue damsels and a foxface. Ich-ing to put in some hardy corals but i want to clear up my nitrate / phosphate issues first... Can advise when how and when will the nitrate / phosphate levels wll drop ? I also have a bag of ferric oxide to clean up the phospate and chaeto algae for nitrate in the sump although I am not sure if my lighting for chaeto is strong enough (using small 9W LED shining on a 2.5ft sump) Also, my skimmer is not exactly big but specs suggests that it supports up to 400gal. My tank is only 270gal. Still lots of unanswered questions... Suggestions and advice welcomed !
  2. Bro, your avatar lagi distracting leh
  3. Just setup a DSB marine tank... Can anybody recommend which sand bed critters to keep to help with the maintenance of my sand bed ? Heard about sea cucumber and starfish... Any others ?
  4. I tried to pick up the beach sand but found them too fine. I think sand number 1 is best fr sand bed. The other thing is to wash and dry the beach sand (if u decide to use beach sand) in the sun until the beach sand turns white, that should be ok but it is no longer live sand i think.
  5. Hmm... I am using LED white light (maybe only 5-6W...
  6. I have a clownfish and a carpet anemone for 1 month yet neither is attaching to the other... After putting in a rock attached with red algae, the clownfish started using it for its "home" (but this should be temporary since the red algae is presently depleting)... even the anemone is muching on some branches which fall in its way.... Therefore, my question is what are the possible alternative permanent homes for the clownfish rather than hoping for it to attach itself to the anemone, which may not happen according to some articles.
  7. When the anemone feeds on red algae is it a sign that I am under feeding it ??
  8. I hear that feeding anemone once a week is enough but any idea how much to feed and how to size the feeding ? So far, I have only try feeding my carpet anemone a piece of market prawn 1/2 cm in size.
  9. I have for many years been a freshwater aquarium guy so this being my first venture into marine aquarium, I m coming into the new realm with quite a few questions... need the sifus here to advise... In freshwater aquarium, whenever the fish gets sick and the tank needs to be medicated (assuming that we do not have a spare hospital facility), we will tend to stop feeding the fresh water fish for the period of the treatment which could last from 7 - 10 days. I know for a fact that my freshwater angelfish and kois can even go without food for 1-2 months, no problems - call it detox. (other instances of no feeding could be due to water condition unstable, e.g. ammonia/nitrite spike, etc...) However, recently, I heard a marine fish seller telling a customer that marine fish needs to be fed every day otherwise they will die. Can anybody kindly advise me whether this is myth or fact ? Much appreciated.
  10. I don't suppose I can keep an angel in a 3.5ft (70gal) tank right ?
  11. Care to elaborate on the issues surrounding deep sand bed ?
  12. Recently went to the LFS in Pasir Ris and was told that clownfish tends to play more with some anemone than others... Can anybody share what types of anemone your clownfish are currently "attached" to and how long before they started to attach themselves to the anemone ?
  13. I read on the internet that the live rock ratio in a marine tank should work out to be 1lb - 1.5lb per gallon. After putting in 32kg of live rocks in my 3.5ft x 1.5ft x 2ft tank and sump, I realised that it is difficult now to have any nice big angel fish (or any big fish) in the tank liao... only space for small little-lings, critters and corals... but the water seems to be pretty stable though... Can anybody share some of your live rocks experience ?
  14. Will be difficult for my tank which has Live rocks but no corals. http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/fish-diseases-treatments/23131-hyposalinity-treatment-process.html
  15. It's eating and swimming well. Problem with Marine tank with live rocks is that catching a fish is terribly troublesome. I read about this product known as No-Ich ... wonder if anybody has come across it being sold in Spore ?
  16. I just came across somebody writing about the affinity between Tangs and ich and lo and behold, I noticed my new 3" blue tang kena ich and scratching against the live rocks... Any remedies to help me solve my ich problems ?
  17. Thanks for the quick responses bros. So I gather that pellets is a no go then...
  18. Can anybody advise whether anemone eat pellets ? Otherwise, can share your methods of feeding anemones ? Thanks much !
  19. Bro, can sms me your address ? 91073327(mobile).
  20. Can anybody advise me where I can get some Chaeto Algae for my refugium ? Thanks a million !
  21. That being the case, maybe I should buy a more accurate meter to check my PH ??
  22. Salinity of 1.025 has been achieved
  23. Can bros here help me with my PH issue (maybe its a non issue) ? I am into 2nd week cycling my new marine setup. I have a deep sand bed with live rocks. My current PH readings are 7.2-7.4 but I understand I need to achieve at least a 7.8 but preferred 8.0-8.3 in order for corals to thrive which is what I am aiming for. My question is whether the PH will revert to >7.8 after cycling ? If not, would using baking soda be a good way to get the PH up, but if the PH is up, how can I buffer it at the high level ? The last thing I want is to constantly be adding baking soda into the tank... Hope for some advice here. Thank you.
