I currently have an established 3+ inch YT in my tank, but really itching to get a Purple tang to add to the tank. I read and hear that when tangs collide, casulties are not uncommon... Would like to hear opinions on how to minimise the potential losses since tangs are not cheap Some one told me to put a few mirrors in the tank ??

I currently have a Maxspect G2 170W for my 80gal 3.5 x 1.5 (W) x 2ft reef + fish tank. I hv read (and from feedback) that it is not sufficient for good coral growth due to insufficient intensify and light spectrum covered not adequate. Hence the coloration of corals won't be very solid. I wonder what would be the better option.... 1. Add 2-3 ATI blue light into the equation ? 2. Change the G2 to Razor 160 W ? 3. Change the G2 to 2 x Razor 120W ? 4. Change the G2 to 2 x Mazzara P series 120W ? 5. Change the G2 and use 6 x ATI light set ? 6. Upgrade (if any) the LED in the G2 to Cree LED ? Any suggestions ?

Seems like PT out of stock ... Anybody knows where I can pick up a small 3-3.5 inch PT ?
-
Thanks for the feedback bro. Yes I have the feeling that lighting insufficient. My tank is 3.5ft x 1.5ft x 2ft deep, currently deploying 1 G2 170W to cover whole tank. G2 is placed right on top of tank and the Zoa are about 6-7 inch from the light. Their neck is about 1/2 inch, considered long ?
-
Just realised that some of the Zoas though near the top of the tank is still sticking their necks out. Is this an indication of the light strength being insufficient ? I am using G2 170W and I read that LEDs can last 10 years... Any comments ?

Black clown pair successfully traded and happy to say they have found a nice and big new home !
-
I have 2 RBTA in my tank but the True percular pair are bigger, meaner and the damsels are a real pain (literally) ... Interested to trade for LPS and Zoa
-
Sorry, forgot to mention, this pair is not damaged, they have been easily scooped out and are now peacefully staying in my sump.

Got this black clown pair from bro Reefzlover last nite but they cannot keep up with the existing tankmates, i.e. kena bullied terok terok... So need to let go ... Willing to swop for corals Do PM me or text me 91073327

I think it also depends on tank size... I (in my masterplan 2020) would love to have a 6 ft big marine fish only tank. If the tank is big enough, I don't think we need to have chiller to keep water temp at 27-28 deg cel especially when we also have a huge sump reservoir. But for smaller tanks 3ft and under, then should have chiller to maintain water temp stability. My 3.5ft tank without chiller goes up to 31 deg cel.

How to eliminate Aiptasia ?!?
woyeng** replied to woyeng**'s topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Thanks. But Copper band and filefish are not reef safe and moreover not in my LS list, so it wont be humane to get them and then chuck them. I have a peppermint Shrimp but I doubt it is all that effective, finally managed to spray some Joe's Juice into the Aiptasia and it has since not appeared for over 2 days, I think that did the job. I think the better solution for reef tanks should still be Joe's Juice or Kalk paste (google) but for Fish only tanks, then of course you can have your natural predators. -
I bought some Joe's Juice to juice the aiptasia but when I approach it, it instantly vanishes... Na bay.... Any solutions from fellow reefers ?!

Salinity and other water elements
woyeng** replied to Koonitdo's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
From what I know, you need to install an Auto Top Off (ATO) system to top off your sump tank with fresh water... OR, do manual top up yourself with Fresh water. Evaporation causes water to go up but not salt. If your KH and Calcium are at stable levels, then you can top off with Kalk solution (mix into Fresh water) in your top off.- 46 replies

Can share how you position your wave makers ? I currently have 2 in my 3.5ft tank, 1 at each end. I place them 2/3 down so as prevent detritus from hitting the ground, wonder whether its better to position them 1/3 near the top ??

I read that lighting for tank is measured roughly based on 3W per gallon of water. Is the 3W derived from the total power capacity of the Lightset ? Example, maxspect G2 170W has a total power output of 170W so based on the rough guidelines, can support up to a 56gallon tank. Hope to gain some insight into this ...

I heard RO / DI needs carbon filtration to remove chlorine and trace chemicals followed by DI filter to purify the filteres water which I dunno what that is ? So best to invest in RO / DI filter or buy water from established sources

Which corals thrive in 30 to 31 deg celcius ?
woyeng** replied to woyeng**'s topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Would 29 deg cel be tolerable ? Just asking even though I m currently using Artica set at 27 deg cel.
