  1. Was thinking of what corals it should keep. Would any reefers here be able to give some suggestions? I'm looking at a colorful and vibrant setup. Consisting of zoas, softies and LPS. Any recommendations please?
  2. Thank you everyone for the kind advice! I will try and get that pest out.. Would burning the rock be detrimental to the tank in the future? Yes I'm definitely planning on a sump tank. Maybe DIY my own using a 1ft cube or 1.5ft tank. I have installed a prefilter stuffed with filter wool before my canister. I plan to wash that portion once a month or even more frequent. Would that confit be okay? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. Dear reefers Is there a specific method on how to cure or acclimatize corals? Do we need to do the same as we do for the live stocks?
  4. Dear reefers As the title suggests, I've decided to take the plunge. Crossing the safe and comfortable freshwater to the the deep dangerous unknown of marine. Tank: 60x30x36 low iron crystal no sump Substrate: caribsea arag-alive sugar granule sand Lights: R420r 120W 16000k Wavemaker: Jebao wp25 Skimmer: not up yet! (I know I should have it!) Tank is cycling with nothing except for live rocks. Planning to keep some LPS, zoas, softies & a pair of true percs. Once stabilized, maybe SPS? Haha Thank you every reefer who has assisted me in one way or another. Especially those who replied me in my earlier thread. Without the forum, I would have no knowledge, tips and equipments! Also, special thanks to @hammy for taking time to bring me to ah Beng so that I could get my life rock! Day 2 of tank. The water level is low because my bloody filter is leaking! I need to get that sorted. Otherwise, tough job but very rewarding. Found this on one of the rocks, not sure if it's apistia but surely looks like it. Should I remove the rock? I read that it is a pest right? Cheers!
  5. Thank you every one for all the valuable inputs! I have the 2footer running now.. Will created another thread and post some questions there! Cheerios!
  6. Hi carfyx! Thank you very much for sharing! It definitely gave me some assurance that in on track.. Is there any reason why you opted for the Red Sea skimmer? Read that it's very noisy.. Is yours really that audible? Any ATO or you do it manually? Cheers Ken
  7. Hi crafyx! Awesome effort and tank! I am just starting my own 2ft and this thread has definitely been an inspiration. Hope that you could share some info with me regarding your setup a) what skimmer are you running on your tank and how often do you need to clean it? what is in your canister filter and how often do you need to clean it? c) do you run a chiller? Is the evaporation rate very high? Thank you in advance for taking time to share this amazing setup with us!
  8. hi smashing yeah. im worried that the item bought would go to waste as well! maybe i will try a used one and see how. thanks for the advise! hi kenyee i also read about the three settings! was worried that even at the lowest setting, may still be too powerful for me.. anyway only one way to find out right which is to try! haha.. Totally agree with you on the feeling about the regret of getting one that is not powerful enough then need to upgrade.. sucks! thats why im doing my planning and research properly! Does anyone know if a hang there are hang on nitrate reactors? what about hang on refugium? would I need one? Pretty concerned about the nitrate level which may accumulate in the tank. thanks a million Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  9. Hi Joey Thank you very much for the long reply and taking time to address every query that I had. Yeah at the moment I'm very tempted by the razor 120W! It's super sleek, bright and pricey. Was thinking if I should go with T5HO first then upgrade as I get better. For the live rock I was planning to put in all at once to ensure that I have sufficient. Would that e good or should I add bit by bit to ensure that the tank is not overloaded? Thanks Ken
  10. Hi Joeybabooey! Thanks! Yeah that's what I read about as well.. That's why I'm only looking at a pair of percs.. Hopefully the nitrate buildups won't be overwhelming.. Yeah currently looking at a deltec mce300 as well.. Heard that it's a good skimmer and it's rated for double my tank size..
  11. ClementC - thanks! Evolutionz - is it your 4ft shallow reef that's on AF? If it is, it's looks amazing! Thanks for the tip! What combination of T5 tubes should I get then? And the par38 any combi or lenses that might've good?
  12. Hi clementC Thanks! Yeah that's what I have read around as well. The WP10 not available yet? Planning a simple reef but with a pair of percs hopefully. Just worried that running a canister for a reef would be disastrous.
  13. Dear reefers Firstly thank you very much for taking time to read and respond to the queries which I have. I'm crossing over from freshwater planted tanks to marine. I'm planning keep some hardy corals and a pair of clownfishes. Current Tank size: 60x30x36 no sump with crystal glass, 6mm. Current filter: eheim 2026 pro 2 with biohomme plus. Chiller: teco 1/12hp Planning to get: 1) Jebao WP25 2) BM NAC QQ HOB protein skimmer 3) live rock and Carib-sea live sand Question 1) would the WP25 be too powerful? Would I need a wavemaker at all? 2) read quite a lot of reefers having problem with the BM QQ. Worried about overflowing and micro bubbles. Does anyone have good exp with it and would it suffice? How would it compare to the reef octopus hob filters? 3) what lights should I get? Would a PAR38 blub suffice? If T5HO what bulbs mix would be recommended? 4) keeping a marine tank with canister filter, how often would I need to clean the filter? 5) How much live rock would be needed and how much sand in proportion? 6) nitrifying bacteria; which have you had very good exp with? 7) any other items that I may have missed out on? Once again thank you very much for your time and positive contribution in assisting with my new adventure! Cheers Ken
