  1. Anthias are social fishes that do well in groups. Are you sure about keeping them and a few tangs together? The tank size and the bioload are issues you need to consider carefully.
  2. If you don't have any livestock (especially fishes) or much phosphates eg. if you use distilled water for setup and water changes, and setup a phosphate reactor at the start, then you won't get much algae. If you use tap water, I'm sure you will have more algae since it contains some phosphates. Having a little algae is good though. When you introduce more and more livestock, you will definitely get more algae too.
  3. Shrimps can be quite fragile and sensitive to differences in water temperature. When introducing them, it's best to acclimatize them by floating the bag in the tank and gradually adding/displacing some water into the bag to reduce the shock they will feel when released into the tank. It's not the best analogy but just imagine if you suddenly go under a cold or hot shower. Our initial reaction would be shock too although I think the shrimps can't take or cope with such shocks at all.
  4. Bro, I think you have to plan for the mid or long term what exactly you want eg. fowlr, mixed reef, lps or sps dominated. This will help you work out the things you need to get now and later. For instance, lights are important and the requirement differs depending on what you keep. In addition, if it's fish only, then the setup cost would be much lower compared to a full sps tank. If you start off on the right foot, things will be more stable and proper planning will help you save more money and give you less headaches in the long run. All the best and have fun!
  5. Commercial breeding efforts have produced countless aberrations and unusual designs but I still root for the classic and timeless look of the false percula clown. That image is too deeply ingrained in my head although I suspect I would be more receptive towards other unusual fishes that I have never seen before.
  6. Ha, it's funny that I have almost the same stuff as you for my 27 liters pico tank - Aqua Bee external filter with rotary wave maker at output, green element LED lights, another hang-on back filter and a fan, although I don't have a skimmer. The 2 lights really give a nice purple glow to your tank.
  7. Wow, most couples are one really big and one really small. I have 3 Pom Pom crabs with the wish that they will get it on and breed although I can't tell their sexes apart. My intention is not to raise the young because I know it's beyond me but I just want to see their orange roe on the female.
  8. You have a beautiful mixed reef tank but the colours are strangely muted and I can't help wondering if MH or LED would do more justice to your amazing creation?
  9. The sps are way better than those at xx and the deals are way better!! I would wish to get my hands on most of these precious gems but sadly I don't have the space for all these amazing sps in my pico tanks.
  10. I thought I will share this here for bros with small pico tanks like mine without chillers. I installed fans on my 2 tanks (27 liters and 56 liters). When I initially set the fans to operate at the same time when the lights are on, I was only able to keep the temperature fluctuating around 28-31 degrees. But recently I set the fans to be on 247 and was able to consistently maintain temperatures around 28-29 degrees and the water does feel cooler. The trade off for the latter is obviously I have to top off more water lost through evaporation.
  11. Dear reefers, I would like to sell the following in the top right hand side of the photos at purchase price to clear space for other corals. Self collect at Hougang MRT vicinity. PM me if you are interested. brown Goniopora 2" (from AquaMarin) - $18 brown elegance coral with pink tips 3.5" (from Sea Life) - $35 brown sps (I don't know the name - from GO) 3" - $33
  12. Yes it's definitely possible although you should try to get one that is small. But if your tank does not have a powerful skimmer and if the clam shows any sign of tissue regression, it's best to remove it immediately to prevent any pollution and contamination of the water, which can happen rapidly with a dying clam in a small volume of water.
  13. The scaping and purplish rocks are pretty.
  14. Actually, I have to admit some of GO's prices are cut throat ridiculous but some are reasonable. However, one has to be careful and selective when buying corals from them because I have seen hair, bubble and slime algae in their tanks and these have spread to my tanks after they go into my aquariums. They do their tanks scrubbing often so the algae appear less, that's all, although the spores are still in the water.
  15. It's interesting to see you started off with a mixed reef tank with amazing GSPs and others to now an amazing sps dominated aquarium. With your dedication to make things work, I'm sure your bandit angel will pull through. All the best!
  16. I'm looking for a small wave maker for my 27 liters pico too but don't you think 2,000 l/hr for a 34-60 liters aquarium is too strong?
  17. Well, it's time to frag and sell your sps! Ha
  18. I agree that water change is the best option here. The footprint is too small for an effective skimmer.
  19. It looks like diatoms? Anyway your tank is so big and spacious with a wide collection of sps. I notice you have biopellets but didn't run any nitrate and phosphate removers?
  20. You check your tank parameters to rule out other causes? What's the tank temperature? If you have fan, how dud you install it when there's a cover?
  21. You can try the AntiRed or UltraLife red slime algae remover if it is really very bad, then do a water change when things are under control. Also try to improve flow to the areas.
  22. Love the rich colours of your flourishing reef. It's hard to believe that this is just a 2 feet tank. Simply amazing.
