Wow, sounds good. What chiller is this? Thanks.

Thanks for the good advice because I'm getting my new tank in a few days time and I will bear that in mind.

Is clam safe from flameback or flame angel
reef garden replied to nuj244's topic in General Reefkeeping_
My 27 litres tank is shared with 2 clams and a flameback angel for more than 5 months. My 56 litres tank is shared with 2 clams and a flame angel for more than 8 months. Both have no problems. The only times my clams died so far were when the clams were already not healthy soon after introduction. I'm not sure if the size of the fishes matter though although both my fishes are smaller than the clams. Good luck! -
Dragoncube bro, Sorry to hijack your thread, based on your wish list, is it feasible to keep the royal gramma and orchid dottyback in a 40.5 litres tank? Thanks.
-
Can you post a photo of it? What is the placement in relation to other corals?

Tofubox bro, What's the reason for not using back the old sand from an established aquarium? Not even after some rinsing in the original tank water? Thanks.

Weekly Shipment Update - 7 Apr - 14 Apr

Are those tank raised or wild caught seahorses? I have been looking for the former for a while now. -
I like the simple, clean and beautiful look! Can you share the tank equipment that you use and the maintenance regime for all to learn? Do I see a refugium behind your GBTA? Great work!
-
I guess it really depends on what you are currently keeping and what you intend to keep?

You guys are so amazing! It's always so inspiring and uplifting to see how fast everything grows in a well setup and maintained reef aquarium. Not to forget that your tank and water look so sparkling clean too! I was also made to believe that we shouldn't mix sps with softies because they share slightly different nutrient conditions but looking at your aquarium, I say it's definitely possible to keep both sps and nps happy at the same time! Well done bro!

Nassarius snails are good at eating dead or decomposed organisms. I suggest you keep them.

You have come a long way since May 2013 and your tank is amazingly interesting, especially with the bridge and cave, and colourful. I particularly love your combination of sps, green monti, clams, mushrooms and Zoas. It's definitely an inspiration to all those junior reefers like me, who ironically gave you some advice on 22 May 13, out there. I for one has not achieved your level of success. Cheers bro!

I love the rich colours of your various sponges. How's your monti doing?

New Newbie Tank(45x30x35) (LOW WATT TANK)

It's a cool DIY light set stand! The plate coral looks alright. When did you put in the gloves and plate coral? You can certainly do scaping with more rocks. Cheers -

Hey bro, Nice Al Sol! Can pm me where you got the hanging stand for the Al Sol and how much was it? Thanks. -
For all the Zoas and some lps that I bought, I always dip them in freshwater for a few minutes before putting them in the main tanks to prevent introduction of pests or unwanted organisms. You would be surprised at the types and numbers of such creatures that were removed in the process. I have mostly seen Zoas eating nudibranchs which turned brown in freshwater, bristle worms and crabs.

It could be the waves are too strong and they got dislodged. If light is too strong, they would likely be bleached instead. All the best.

My yuma mushroom just killed almost all the heads on one of my acans which fell on it. I was astonished by the extent of damage involved because the acan was in perfectly good condition prior to this. The yuma won hands down. So sad.

Yes, it's an Aiptasia. You can't only remove it manually because any remnants can still grow into new ones. I usually take out the rock at this stage and remove it then use a lighter to burn it. All the best!

I learnt not to dabble in sps in small tank setups unless one can keep the parameters stable, which is essential for long term survival of the sps since they do not like sudden fluctuations in salinity, pH, Kh, Ca and Mg and many others. So do keep a close watch on your sps bro and do what you can to ensure it survives.

Blue sponges rarely survive long in aquariums. One of the reasons is they cannot be exposed to air, which happens easily when one transfers them from tank to air or vice versa and which will cause air pockets to be lodged in their fragile structures. Eventually they turn yellow and disintegrate away. You hardly see any experienced reefers keeping them on their tanks.

How big is your aquarium and what livestock eg. corals, are you going to keep?
-
Yes, the S, M and L-sized clams at AquaMarin are going at $35. I just bought 3 and there should be around 10 left.
-
Dnwolf, In a number of your photos, the live rocks were covered with masses of purple algae. This should be more of a concern to you than Aiptasia because soon they may envelope everything if your dissolved nutrients are not kept under control. I do not know about your tank specifications, setup and maintenance eg. size, any sump, what equipment, any skimmer, what are the livestock, water change frequency. But you should start off by changing part of the water and try to put in some phosphate removers eg. Phosban, or setup a phosphate reactor in the long term if you don't already have one. Do heed the advice of the other helpful bros eg. add clean up crew like Turbo and Nassarius snails, and remove the BTA. Have fun!

I hope I'm not hijacking your post. I love pocci but I never had any luck with them despite trying it out more than 4 times. The polyps don't even open up properly after introduction. My other sps like digitata and bird nest are fine. Anyone knows what are the pocci needs that are different from others?
