Recently, my layer of wool (mechanical filtration) in my sump setup got stuck with debris and caused water from my outflow pipe to overflow into my living room. Some people told me I should not use wool filter as it is not necessary. What are your thoughts? Is this required or do I just allow the water to flow directly through bio balls and just let the skimmer do the work?

Thanks Copepod. I'd placed a plating monti near the flow and it isn't doing well. Maybe I need to shift it to a lower flow area.

I'm currently using an Eden return pump and find that it gets quite noisy at full strength. Pump under 3 months old. Which is the quietest brand out there, not compromising on power/rate? Your help is much appreciated

Dear reefers, I just installed a tunze wave box in my 4 ft tank. There happens to be some space just in front of the box. Can I ask which type of coral can take direct water flow? I had to move my gonios which occupied that space previously. I'm open to sps, Lps or softies. Tks!

I agree. Water parameters still not stable. Doing well with PO4 but trying to stablise NO3 to the 5-10 range at least. Occasional ich and fish dying. (also due to the aggressive purple tang which I probably have to remove sooner).

Thanks Kakani. I started with a sulphur denit. but it didn't manage very well. I'm now soley using Red Sea's NO3P04 and nearly all the algae gone.

Hi fellow reefers, what would you do if you suspect you have dead fish in your reef setup? Sometimes, fish die in hard to reach places, in between rockwork or are just not visible. I guess it would be ideal to remove dead fish as they would contribute greatly to NO3. But then again, is it worth foraging the tank, knocking over corals, stressing other fishes etc just to get the dead fish out?

Just to clarify with the senior reefers out there, are there actually real shipments from Australia? Understand that Great Barrier Reef is off-limits.
