Hello everyone, just want to share my process of building a tank with a remote sump setup. Moving over from a 3 foot setup, I wanted to make a built in setup that would be easy to maintain and of course looks great and runs silently. Here are some photos of what the house looked like before my reno, where the tank would go and where the sump would be at the back of the house

Around 40 mins on, 1.5+ hours off

I recently changed to a 1/5 hp arctica! Sold the hailea to my friend, took too long to chill. On time for the Hs-28 was about 1-1.5 hour, off time about 1-2 hours depending on the weather

I also heard before that you cannot use copper coil at all, since it will poison your tank. Is it true ?

Madpetz has last time I checked

Using pure drinking water for salt mixing?
Nox replied to Admiraltian's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Hm why don't you guys invest in a ro Di filter? I think over time it is very worthwhile as buying water costs money and lots of effort -
Ever since I removed the sand, I realize there is no difference for me. When I sit down and look at my tank I can't even see the bottom, only when standing in front of it then you notice it . Much easier to keep clean !

I used to use the razor 160, can grow sps, but the aesthetic look I didn't like, a bit too purple for my taste..
-
Looks very bleached, too much light ?

Won't they use slightly more electricity? I think one larger pump is more efficient than 2 smaller ones
-
Wow, now I know brand of salt is also very important!

My kh is at 9, ph varies 8.1-8.3. Kh and ph will increase together. For me the easiest way is to dose the 2 part solution (eg c-balance) to bring your ph and kh to the ideal level, no need to dose ph buffer. You can also try using kalk to increase ph and Kh together

Wow I must have been very suay.. One day put in the next day all eaten up... Maybe I should try again

for the air intake, what is the intended effect of adjustment? After so many months i still have not figured what is the ideal setting for the air. If it is wide open and 3/4 open, my skimmate colour always light brown, never dark brown
-
i used to use the skimz, not the 201 but the sm121. 3 foot tank. recently changed to a deltec 1455, and I find that the build quality is good for both but just a little nicer for the deltec. The deltec footprint is also very small if your sump is small like mine

Portable aircon to replace compressor chiller?
Nox replied to LittleBurger's topic in General Reefkeeping_
hm, i have seen before a portable split unit type, the compressor outside and a portable aircon inside. The piping is somewhat flexible. If you can change the inside part to a titanium drop in, then you can have a portable drop in style already -
u have to calibrate in ph 10 and ph 7. and yes the pump will also affect the reading, tried myself yesterday, didn't believe at first
-
so at what temperature do you guys feel that the colour / growth is well balanced Below 25deg is a waste of electricity to chill? Or will the colours really hold better?

SPS: what's possible and impossible
Nox replied to christan1959's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
If i have a dosing pump that is accurate to 0.5ml, then dosing 5ml will give me a 10% error right? So over the day would i get an average 10% error as compared to dosing 20ml with an average 2.5% error? Small amounts dosed would have more error resulting in dosing fluctuations? -
i stupidly bought before, then my tangs ate all of it up...

may I ask how much flow should be in the china made FR? I am also using that type

Hi all, just cleaned out my tank a few days back, thought it would be nice to start a diary / photo log of the tank as it progresses. Brief history, this tank had some LPS from previously, added some SPS but then gave up after a while of neglect due to work / other commitments. Last week i took out all the sand, scrubbed down the tank and put back the live rock and whatever livestock survived. Some upgrades here and there, restocked some things and added some frags. Hopefully all goes well for a relative newbie! Tank size: 36"x18"x24" high Other stuff: 1x mp40,1x mp10 Deltec 1455 skimmer Hailea Hs28a chiller (a bit undersized i know) 2x Hydra 26 lights Vertex libra doser Biopellet reactor Keeping the equipment list simple, only intending to dose A/B and trace. My goal is to achieve a mixed SPS/LPS reef. So far everything appears to be stable Taking this slow and steady.
