Rules and Regulations on Tank Size
Gouldian replied to puppet's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Hi bro, Yup, generally the regulations are much lower than the actual weight the floor can bear. This is to ensure there are room for errors. So, some reefers and LFS indeed made bigger tanks than what is stated by HDB. But in the event of any damage to the structure of a nosey neighbor were to complain against you, you will need to face the music yourself. No reefers , tank makers or LFS will be able to cover you on that. If its condo, you can hire a PE to assist you in your negotiations with the management and the final decision will still lies with them. -
Thanks for sharing sis, I am definitely camping here for the developments.

Me and my family will report her if we come across this lady. This is not the way to treat any living thing.

Rules and Regulations on Tank Size
Gouldian replied to puppet's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
The limit is not on the size of the tank but on the weight of the tank. HDB standard is not more than 600kg per room if tank is on 4 legs. http://www.hdb.gov.sg/fi10/fi10324p.nsf/w/HomeRenoGuidelinesBuilding?OpenDocument#FishTank As for condo, you may have to check with your development of your building management as it all depends on the building designs. This is the new "wear your seatbelt" ad the UK is doing - started by some guy not hired to do it, but because the cause is important to him, he came up with this idea, and now it's being hailed across the world as a "beautiful" commercial. Link Looking at the video it did not require high budget or top notch special effects but manages to sent heartwarming message through. I wonder how much our garment spend on our recent 'heartwarming' messages on family values???

rainwater for water change?
Gouldian replied to J_Vansen_S's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
There used to be a reefer who have used rain water before. He was able to do so as he collecting them on a open patch in front of his house. He only collect rainwater in the middle of a heavy downpour and was able to get TDS ranging from 6-12. Rainwater that were collected on the initial downpour is usually higher in TDS as it cleans the air. But do know rainwater will have lower pH. Hope that helps. -
I think scenario 2 is very likely, encountered that many time. Client A - "Aiya, the sample I show you already approved liao, just need your designers to 'beautify' it more to our needs" Client B - "We went through all your proposals and our boss still like something similar to the one we shown you earlier, please get your designer to follow his direction"

Marine Salt is Real Sea Salt or Artificial Salt?
Gouldian replied to dnsfpl's topic in General Reefkeeping_
It depends, for example: 1) Redsea claims that their salt are from natural source - http://www.redseafish.com/Prod190.asp 2) Tropic Marin claims their salt are manufactured pharmaceutically - http://www.tropic-marin.com/web/english/produkte/salt.htm -
A woman went to the service counter and told the clerk she wanted a refund for the toaster she bought because it won't work The clerk told her that he can't give her a refund because she bought it on special. Suddenly, the woman threw her arms up in the air and started screaming, 'PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES!!!' The befuddled clerk ran away to get the store manager in front of a growing crowd of customers. The manager comes to the woman and asks, 'Ma'am what's wrong?' She explains the problem with the toaster, and he also tells her that he can't give her a refund because she bought it on special. Once again, the woman throws her arms up in the air and screams, 'PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES, PINCH MY NIPPLES!!!' Which begins to draw an even bigger crowd! In shock, the store manager pleads, 'Ma'am, why are you saying that?' In a huff, the woman says, 'BECAUSE, I LIKE TO HAVE MY NIPPLES PINCHED WHEN I'M BEING SCREWED !!' The crowd broke into applause and her money was quickly refunded!! Now I wonder how guys can pull this off, any suggestions????

I have a question to ask... pls read this first before posting.
Gouldian replied to comycus's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I admire your humour Comycus! However, the reason why we have a "New to the Marine" sub-forum is to assist newbies in their questions no matter how silly or elementary they were. Having this topic in this sub-forum may not be seen as being "Welcoming" to newer members to this hobby. Although I do not know Comycus that well but from his posts most of us knows that he have been very helpful and patience with newbies. Thus, I would like to move this topic to Kopi Tiam so as not to cause any unnecessary misunderstanding towards SRC or Comycus. Please feel free to PM me or Admin - Harlequin Mania if you feel otherwise. -
Since this topic has generated many negative comments and deardarling have not responded to any of the questions posted by the members, I shall closed this topic until further notice. Deardarling, if you wanted to clarify yourself and re-open this topic, please feel free to PM me or Admin - Harlequin Mania.
