I am currently trying out the below and is also getting help from Habib (CEO of Salifert) from Salifert through RC. Salifert Stop Parasites

Cannot lah bro, they will not survive low salinity. The only way is to remove all fishes for hypo while you leave your main tank free from hosts (fishes) for the minimum of 6 weeks.

Hi burneri, I am interested in 2pcs, still available? I am staying in 298 Punggol Ctrl. PM me if you can trade by tonight.

Water is always very important. Cuz it carries oxygen and also it dilute the ammonia produce by the livestocks. Filter traps larger particles while skimmers traps DOM or DOW (Dissolve Organic Materials or Dissolve Organic Waste). I understand your reasoning of trying to start humble and all the stories that you might have heard from some LFS (Local Fish Shop) about their filters will work. But the truth you will never be able to run away from is that as you progresses with the hobby, you will be always asking question why your have more die-off as compared to others. For me, I have seen succesful tank with just undergravel filters. The key is, if you own a less effective waste export system, be prepared to keep the waste low too.

There are billions of stuffs that comes with LRs, nitrobacter, nitrosomma brittle worms are some of the welcome ones.
-
Dun worries so much about the lights as it is always better to cycle in the dark. Not much algae bloom. Let it cycle without adding any livestocks for two weeks and at the meantime try to fish out whatever crab you can see.
-
For me, I dun gauage by kg, cuz LRs that are boulders tend to be heavy as compared to the branching type. So what i do is to ensure that 40% to 50% of LRs coverage on my tank. Cuz I like braching LR as compared to the boulders type which I find harbour lots of critters that are may not be safe for reef tank such as mantis! But the fact is, you still have to have some boulders type at the bottom of the tank cuz ther are more stable. One of my boulders gave me an mantis that I have yet find a way to trap it. Fortunately it only preys on the hitch-hikers crab again thanks to the boulders.

Got bracing for you tank spec, can liao lah. Too many bracing and you will have problem cleaning and accessing the corners. ;-p My avatar is a Boston Terrier, it is specially breed for the city of Boston as most people there stays in apartments thus not suitable to keep other breed of dogs. There is a bro here - Diabolus, he owns one, wanted so much to visit him one day. I currently cannot afford the time to have a dog at home cuz no one home when we work..... :-(
-
2x2x2 8mm should be ok lah especially if you have bracing. There are some I know who is still using off the shelf tank that is only 6mm without bracing!
-
So bro does that means you willing to let go the #1 at $50? If so, I am interested!
-
Upz for you sale Tineng, the Nautilus is a fantastic skimmer! Wish I could afford it now.......

#1 - You have to filled the water to the level you will want when your fishes are introduced. #2 - As you already know you are supposed to cycle the tank and that's waht you are doing now. During cycling you will experience some form of algae bloom due to the amonia and nitrate spike. Thus what you observed as slime could be micro-algae. #3 - It is normal to have hitch-hiking critters, just have to look out for crabs and mantis as they will pose some danger to you livestocks in the future. Worms and snails are generally alright. Unless they are fireworms, corals eating worms or box snails. For more information of these parasites, you may surf the net for visuals. #4 - 15cm is about 6" which is termed as Deep Sand Bed (DSB), its been proven to be effective is controlling nitrate. But will take time for it to be fullyeffective. #5 - 15cm of DSB on you main tank, also means that you will only have a small area in your 2ft tank catering to your livestocks. Most of us prefer to have DSB in our sump and keep the sand bed in the main tank not more than 1.5". Also DSB are unsightly once it matures. #6 - You may use a $8 skimmer, but a $8 skimmer will only allow you to keep hardy fishes such as damsels and even that your bio-load has to be low i.e. not more than 5 damsels with minimal feeding. #7 - Skimmer is the most important equipment determinng your sucess or failure, thus the only way to start humbly without sacrificing quality is to get second hand skimmers. Check out our Sell off / Pasar malam forum, there are always bargain you will appreciate. I am no expert but I hope that answer your queries.

Schuran is running on Eheim and is good. But since I am only using it as a secondary skimmer, I think I will try to use the Sander currently running my QT tank. So when I dismantle QT, Sanders will be in my main tank vice-versa. As the sanders is only a air pump skimmer, I guess it will be lass power consumming as compared to the Schuran. Sunny - you interested? Although I am in no hurry of letting go, if you want, I can release it anytime. Better than posting and waiting.

Need to borrow Trap for Mantis
Gouldian replied to Gouldian's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
I already given up on removing it. Anyway, I read in RC that most Mantis that hitch hike on LRs are usually smashers and they usually will remain quite small to pose any threat to the fishes.Besides they prefer crustaceans as compared to fishes. For me, the smallest fish I have is a Neon Goby (1.5cm), but its still surviving, I also have the arrows shrimps that are about 1.8cm. But I must say that I have lots of hitch hikers crab shells at the bottom of my tank to which I credit the Mantis! -
No worries my friend. That's what I call "Best of Both World" -a combination of German & American technology. But in order to save cost, I might be selling schuran soon and change to sanders.

"I do not have a strong preference for any particular skimmer style. Rather I strongly recommend the employment of two skimmers on every system in different styles. The employment of two or more skimmers will ensure nutrient export without interruption from cleanings if the skimmer service is staggered." Anothony Calfo, Book of Coral Propagation I currently run my 3 ft with 2ft sump with 1 x urchin and 1 x shuran. Both did not stop skimmimg.

That is a file clam (Lima scabra). Not much is known about their husbandry. Most literature cliams that they will starve in an average aquarium. They are some who claim that it can be kept by dripping 2l of phto daily to sustain them. Some claim that they are easily harrased thus adviseable to keep in a species tank. I have tried keeping opne and tried looking around for their husbandry but eventually failed. I would not want to try again.

Blue tang with a Bulge Eye...
Gouldian replied to kschew1498's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Flubby did pass on her recipe before she left. I do not know who is holding it now. But I am sure there will be reefers out here willing to continue her saga! -

Can try Henry's food or Flubby's gourmet, gaurantee to entice the most finicky eaters. I have tried both with great results. -

Salifert Stop Parasites
Gouldian replied to Gouldian's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Thanks Alfa, Hope that someone will do a review soon. Seems like the review was done previously on the pepper based product not the current mentioned by Habib. -
20k MH sure purple wan. Usually 20k is mixed with 10k to have a more balance lighting. For me I chose to have 10k supplement with 2 x t5 actinic. I used to use 150w 14k too, not as purple compared to 20k.
