  3. Check your LRs, there may be something huge rotting inside and must be removed. Carbon, bacteria, frequent partial water changes applies.
  4. Bro, Your problem is more like a sump that is too small for the overflow from main tank. Generally speaking a sump should be able to hold all water drain from the main tank when all switches are off or during a blackout. There are currently have power back-up such as APC that can be used to power up some basic equipment in case of power failure but we usually use this to connect to air pumps. So in an event of a power failure, the air pumps will turn on to supply the tank and sump with critical oxygen. Most do not use power back-up to run return pumps as the electrical draw will be too much and you will end with the pump running for a short period before exhausting the power pack. The same applies on a building with only power-up Emergency Exits and critical equipment during a black-up rather than the entire building. As for power surge, generally AC equipment are safe during a power surge but DC equipment although some have certain form in-build surge protection, cannot withstand to much power surge and may spoil. You can get surge protection devices to be connect between the power socket and the equipment for additional supports. Yes, you can get after market temperature controller to be added to your chiller. You can easily get them at Teck Hoe (Geylang) or several shops at Sim Lim. You will need Temperature Probe, Controller, Relay / Contactor and Power socket. Instead of the chiller drawing direct power from your wall socket the chiller will now be connect to the Power Socket of the Temperature Controller. Go some googling and you will know what I mean. Alternatively is to get Derrick to DIY one for you, he can be contacted through Iwarna. Hope that helps.
  5. From my conversation with Shannon, apparently his neighbor filed a complain against him and this project have to be dropped for the time being.
  6. Bro, this thread is 1 year ago liao. Anyway, I have spoken with the organizer and we have planned for a meeting next week. By grace, I bump into Cheng Hock yesterday too and briefly spoken with him. Cheng Hock is the Marine Nano Competition adviser. I hope to be able to present the views of MASS across so as the address the concerns we have during the past competitions. We shall update the situation in another thread soon when we have more details.
  7. To all at SGReefClub, Congratulations for the successful event! MASS is proud to be part of the event and I must say that our stakeholders and sponsors were a little apprehensive when they were told about this event. Most were concerned about the outdoor venue and also the crowd that we will draw. However, with the collective efforts from the respective stakeholders of the Fish Carnival and the supports and the members of the various stakeholders, we managed to answer these concerns. We faced another challenge during Thursday after when we will hit by a thunderstorm during set-up. All booths were drenched and flooded. But instead of throwing the towel, it only made us more determined to overcome it. Everyone pitched-in to protect the electrical equipment and to clear the flooded area. The rain came in again on Sunday afternoon but this time we were all prepared. I have also spoken with a few external parties that commented that they were surprised and happy that we managed to pull through with such limited funding. MASS will be looking forward to participate in another successful Fish Carnival with your side. Best Wishes, Joseph Tan Chairman Marine Aquarist Society (Singapore)
  8. Hey bro, no problem. I agree that this event makes us all closer together. Unfortunately, it ended will a foul taste because of a certain reefer -
  9. So good, I struggled to get my bump into office this morning. Slept only at 3am and totally drained but it's still worthwhile!
  10. Dear Steven, I like your write-up and feels its indeed shared a lot of info on your set-up. This, I feel should be encouraged as it will bring our standards higher. Unlike the freshwater competition, Marine tank competition is still at its infancy and for Nano - we are the 1st to do it officially in Singapore! As per all things new, the pioneers are the ones that are generous in sharing as they have nothing to loose and they are the benchmark. However, as the competition matures and standard increase, I foresee we will move towards what our freshwater counterpart does. But this is just the natural progression. Thanks again Steven for putting up an impressive show, your hard works is definitely appreciated by all.

  15. Congratulations to all who have particpated in this competition. This is defintely been one of the best event in the histroy of MASS. I believe all of us has benefited from this competition both from the actual st-up and all through the valueable sharing in the individual thread of the participation. I have also witness the actual sharing and helping between the particpants to achieve a better display even to the extend of lending their own beloved livestock. As Bel has shared, 1 of the tank experieced a little mishap and was at the verge of crashing on Friday morning. The owner of that tank was not present that time due to his work commitment. Eventhough some of the other participants were busy with their set-up, they still took time to help up a fellow reefer in trouble. When one of our sponsor learned about it, he even volunteered to spare us his product to be used to minimize the damaged to the tank. It is truly a heart warming scene. I would like to thank - Aqua-Nautics, MadPetz, Iwarna, Reef Depot, Rein Biotech and Fournisseur for their generous sponsorship in this event. Not to forget SRC's Admin, Moderators and members for the encouragements and supports! The official tabulated results will be posted on the Official Competition Thread accordingly in the respective Tank Number. Please note that we will only post the Nic of the Top 3 tanks. See you guys tomorrow at 4.30pm for the Prize Presentation. .

  18. Most super glue are Cyanoacrylate and are safe for reef. Of course, different manufacturer have their own unique formulation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanoacrylate
  19. Fierce! What is the hammer for? Knock out other competitors???!!!
  20. Kent with these much Tunze stuffs, you can open Tunze Used Store liao.
  21. I like the EasyNeo Marine too. I was first introduced to this by Harlequin Mania 3 years back and have been using it since. I used it weekly prior to water change, what EasyNeo does is precipitate dissolved organics to be skimmed or settled on sandbed, after dosing into tank, I will then siphon the settled precipitations from my tank. I also use it when transporting sensitive fishes, I feel dosing EasyNeo increase the oxygen and also reduces stress of the fishes during transport. I have successfully transported AT, PBT and Clown Tangs using them with the fishes arriving in good condition even after several hours on route.
