Hi arg, If you have chance to drop by Townsville, I would love to see your coverage of Reef HQ's world largest coral reef aquarium. http://www.reefhq.com.au/home/exhibits/coral_reef_exhibit -
Hi bro, IMHO The key to a successful de-nitrator, be it sulphur or carbon base, is the dosing pump. This is because fluctuation will be detrimental to the anaerobic bacteria's populations. "All done, except for one last detail. A proper drip rate is needed to maintain dwell-time within the unit so the bacterias can gobble up the nitrates. Too fast a flow and your tests will show nitrites, as the bacterias have too much O-2 and denitrification isn't taking place. Too slow a drip or flow rate and hydrogen sulfides are produced, giving a rotten-egg smell that indicates trouble to the inhabitants of the reef or fish tank. I have experimented and found that a drip of just under a steady-stream is best. In other words, a very fast drip, but a definite drip just the same. Use a small air valve to regulate this on the output tube before running back to your sump or display tank." Source: http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/proteinfi...ycoildenitr.htm For me, I used the Aqua Medic NR1000, a carbon based Denitrator. In my 3 years of usage, I have to change my peristatic pump 5 times due to mechanical failure (1 x Aqua Medic SP3000, 1 x Aquadoser 201 variable, 1x TOM Aqualifter, 2 x IKS LP180). I am now using Iwaki metering pump which in my opinion is the best option for accurate dosage and reliabilty. HTH

Hi Bro, Eheim 1048 should be 600l/hr. Not sure whether its sold, you can SMS Alvin @ 97709979. HTH

Hi bro, I have previously used a SICCE Extrema. Beside SICCE, I would recommend Eheim 1260 or Aquabee 2000. Your 2 canister's flow may not be able to chill your tank efficiently. But if really no choice, go for the 1 with higher flow. HTH

Hi bro, Yes, RA680 may be a overkill as its recommended for tank around 500 to 800l. Your current tank volume is about 227l and the recommended chiller should be RA240. http://www.aquatechnic.net/program.html However, I must let you know that I have indeed use RA680 to chill my 255l tank previously and I really like the performance it gave me - fast and efficient chilling. Only set back is that being rated higher, the RA680 produces more heat & noise as compared to the RA240. But since you are getting a used RA680 and there isn't anyone selling a RA240. If I were you, I will get the RA680 provided the condition is good. HTH

Hi Bro, I am not sure it can be considered moving but due to the fact that Lobophyllia is capable of expanding and reducing their tissue, I surmise that they should be able to move a few CM. But if yours move several CM in a short period, you may want to check for urchin or worms hidden beneath your coral. I have experienced one moving away from my green star polyps several times. Below is a link to another reefer's similiar experience: http://www.3reef.com/forums/coral/moving-b...####-41368.html HTH

DA, No bad consequences lah. In fact, you can start charging neighbors entrance fees liao. But be sure not to let the neighbor directly below your flat comes in or he will start getting you to repair his ceiling cracks.

OMG! Did your lobster survive? Your post reminds me of those documentary where the scientist capture the natural atrition of wild animal without intervention.
-
Hi bro, That's very true, do post once your set-up is ready.

Hi bro, Look around, there are always great bargains to start your hobby. Clownfish indeed may create a depression on your sandbed if there isn't a host anemone/subsitute. But if you are going as planned with a RBTA, it believe you need not worry too much on that. Usually, we will need a minimum of 10x the tank volume of flow in our tank excluding closed loop. Thus for your tank, I believe the recommended return pump should be 2000l/hr and/or above. And if that's the case, any closed loop circulation will be good enough. Unless you intend to keep sps, then you may want to increase your ciculation up to 40x. Have you bought your MH, if no, I have a friend letting go a Macro T5 set at a good price. HTH

He now have another 3 footer right next to his current tank. Maybe you can convince him to hooked it up.

Nice set-up, thanks for sharing.

Hi bro, You new intended list looks better! As for sand, I always prefer sugar size as compared to grade 0 as they will not cuz sand storm easily. Caribsea aragamax is expensive due to the fact they are hobby grade aragonite known to be beneficial for our tank. Sands we get from LFS although suffice may contain certain trace that may be noxious to our tank thus some prefer to pay the extras just to be sure. For me, although I uses Aquamedic HydroCarbonat, I will not hesitate using LFS sand provide I have gone through washing and removal of metal debris (using magnet). Btw, are you the guy I called yesterday? HTH

DA, With that list there's only one thing in my mind... "You upgrading to 8 footer?"

Hi bro, Next time got Drypers let me know, many parents I know prefers Drypers for cost effectiveness. If for comfort and performance, most prefer Pampers or Mamy Poko. Nevertheless up for your sales.

Hi bro, Have used it before and noticed more settlement of detritus and more skimate yield. I surmised that it works by absorbing and binding contaminants making them large enough to be removed by filter wool or skimmer etc. But have not been using it for very long liao. http://www.easylife.nl/english/index.html?id=20 HTH

Wow! Finally posted liao... remember the cap (60/40) ok. Hahahah

Hi bro, The results seems quite good for a $16 skimmer.
