  3. Bro, Thanks for sharing, hope your method will work. Just a tip - cover your figers will petroleum jelly before you smoothen the excess silicone from the joints. Silicone will not stick to your fingers and also the silicone area will look neater. HTH

  9. My guess is protozoa infection in the intestine rather than cyanide, I suspect it Haxamita - Hexamita is caused by intestinal flagellated protozoa and attacks the digestive system and the lower intestines of infected fish. The symptoms of this disease are often confused with those of hole in the head diseases as these two diseases usually are present at the same time in a fish. They are however two separate diseases that each needs to be treated. Some fish species are especially prune to Hexamita such as large cichlids and especially Oscar and discus fish. The first sign of Hexamita is usually that the faeces become whitish and slimy. During this stage of the development of the disease the fish can still appear to be healthy and eat as usual. As the disease progress the numbers of symptoms will increase and you can often start to see symptoms of hole in the head disease as well. The symptoms of more progressed Hexamita includes the fish becoming darker or even black, the fish start swimming backwards, the head sinks in (becomes thin), weight loss and the fish starting to hide in small corners with its head facing downwards. Hexamita does as earlier mentioned attack the digestive system and can therefore cause nutrient deficiencies in the infected fish. Nutrient deficiency is one of the reasons behind hole in the head disease. Since the disease is internal it is necessary to medicate internally. The easiest way to do this is to mix 1% metronidazole in fish food (25g food for one 250mg metronidazole) and feed it to the fish. Feeding sparsely before feeding the medicated food can help guarantee that the fish eats the medicated food. It is also recommended to medicate the water as well by adding 12 mg metronidazole per litre aquarium water to make the treatment more effective. Repeat the water treatment every other day until you have treated the water three times. http://animal-world.com/encyclo/fresh/info...on/Diseases.htm http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/disease/
  10. For LCK, you can get there by Kranji Express 9am to 4.30pm. Click HERE for details. HTH
  11. Hi bro, Good for you if you can get a UPS. In case you can't, you can try getting battery powered air pumps for your tank, they are sold in most LFS and cost less than a red note. For a five footer, you will need 2 for your main tank and 1 for you sump. Depending on the models and the batteries used, they will last you more than 12 hrs. If you do not wish to purchase them, there are reefers here that do not mind loaning you (let me know if you need, I have 2 to spare). Personally I prefer air pump as there will be minimal heat transfer compared to using Powerhead connected UPS, especially during this period your chiller and fans will be off too. Do also note that SP will usually play safe by informing you of the cut more that the actual needed duration. From my past experiences, most will take around 45mins to 2hrs. HTH

  15. Hi David, No, that's not the one I have stopped using. Anyway, I have another friend who have several tank hooked up in one system sharing the same parameters, lighting, flow etc. And to our surprise, one of the tank developed cyano where as the rest don't. It seems that we don't have the answers to everything.

  20. Hi David, A few of my friend and I struggled with this problem recently and finally manages to solve the problem by switching salt brand. We believe the salt we used earlier may have some trace that causes the bloom. You may want to see whether changing salt works for you.
  21. Bro, Sea Life also have 2 x burgess butterfly - rare, deep water planktonic feeder. Considered reef-safe, you may want to try.
  22. No worries. Like what you have in mind, a varied diet is important to the optimum health of your fishes. Persoanlly, I have on hand 3-4 types of pellets plus nori which I will feed to my fishes.
