  1. Welcome, Both BK and Deltec are distributed by Reef Depot (http://www.reefdepot.com.sg/) locally. Personally, I find that they have done agood job providing the necessary supports for the Brands that they carry.
  2. Dear all, I have a Schuran Jetstream 1 Calcium Reactor for sale for $500.00. Herewith are the characteristics in my personal opinion: *Non-pressurising, non-fluidising reactor - Lesser chance of leakage *Optimum usage of CO2 *Ability to perform efficiently by using coral chips - No need expensive CR Media *Well design and build in Germany You may also check on the below links for more details: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...threadid=397189 http://www.schuran.com/english/calciumsea.html Thanks,
  3. We are only allowed to buy from DFS if we leave the Singapore more than 2 nights. If I remember correctly leaving for Malaysia does not qualify for duty-free even if you fly first class. Those DFS in town do not sell to Singaporean.
  4. You are right bro, bacteria that feeds on carbon will thrive in the tank regardless whether they are beneficial to our hobby or not. I figure if we were to introduce beneficial bacteria culture in the first place then encourage the growth with carbon dosing. We should be able to minimize or control the population of 'bad' bacteria within our systems.
  5. Smirnoff is cheapest the last I bought from DFS. For duty-paid vodka, I can get Smirnoff at $36 before GST (minimum 6 bottles) and Flieschmann at $33 before GST (minimum 6 bottles). I still think its better to get from DFS anyway, 700ml will last very long.
  6. Dear bros, The management of this forum will not tolerate rudeness, be nice and enjoy the hobby. Happy reefing. Gouldian
  7. Yes, as stated in the instruction, the dosage for new tank is higher.
  8. Hi Joe, they only state Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter in the packaging but what impressed me is the video on the amount of highly active bacteria in their culture (Video) * Note - very slow streaming .
  9. I'm into ULNS - Microbe-Lift Special Blend and Vodka. I have used Rowa and Prodibio with good results too but opt for Microbe-Lift as I find it more economical. With the above bacteria culture and vodka, I am able to attain unmeasurable Nitrate using Elos test kit. I've since de-comm my denitrator. Only thing about Microbe-Lift is the rotten eggs smell from the bottle whenever you open.
  10. I like the idea of creating artificial rocks and let mother nature do the seeding. But I am not impressed with the stuffs that grows and hitch-hike on your rocks, they are more nuisance that what I prefer. Unless, you are thinking of setting-up another curing facility to clean and cure the rocks before sales; I feel the potential of selling them is limited. However, if like FuEl mentioned, I feel that if you have the right location that is nutrients and pests free, your rocks may be more marketable. HTH
  11. Hi Bro, it's been a while since we last spoke. Hope all is well for you and your household. Upz.
  12. Since it uses a o.o1 micron filter plus ionizer, I believe it should be able to remove quite a lot of impurities. You can do a simple test by using a TDS meter, if it reads 0 or close to 0 than this guys do pack a punch. However, my other concerns will be the cost of the filters and also the frequency of the filter need to be changed/service.
  13. Reading your title, I thought Sengkang River got live rocks for collection.
  14. Nitrification - Ammonia and Nitrite are consumed by aerobic bacteria, however the end product is Nitrate Denitrification - Nitrate are consumed by anaerobic bacteria and the end product is Nitrogen HTH
  15. Hi Kwee Heng, Yes, keeping your tank lightly stocks does help because the oxygen demand of the tank will be low. Another cheap alternative is battery operated air pump, you can get those in most LFS nowadays. HTH
  16. Thanks for you feedback. Since taking over the forum HM have resolved many issues regarding this forum and will continue to do so.
  17. Should be one of the many species of polychaete, they are indeed scavengers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polychaete Some carnivorous fishes may feed on them. In fact, there is a company manufacturing fish food from farmed polychaete. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polychaete
  18. You can try http://www.microscreen.com.sg they sell fabric of different micron sizes for silk screen applications and can be used for our needs.
  19. Glad that things have been good for you. Kids have been a handful for me too as they are currently at the most mischievous age. Things at SRC have been improving since the takeover. Now, the owner/admin is Harlequin Mania. I don't chiong that much liao, 1st no kaki (Dispar Anthias) 2nd am having some tank problem that I need to resolve. Hope to see you around.

  23. Your macro algae should be going asexual; it is adviseable to remove the dying portions as soon as possible and to place GAC to adsorb whatever nutrients it is releasing back into your water. In order to prevent them going asexual, you can either do frequent trimming or to have them lighted for 24hrs. Here's some read for your reference: http://www.reefbuilders.com/2007/04/06/ref...y-you-need-one/
  24. Aiyah, post too fast and into the wrong sub-forum. Sorry Henry.
