  2. It is possible, and still possible today. It's all a matter of what you intend to keep. I can bet my last buck that he wasn't able to keep some livestock we are keeping today though. When I was younger, the most advanced aquarium is the Van Kleef Aquarium, but even they were only showcasing FOWLR with some hardy inverts.
  3. Wah lao, whoever responsible sure kena big time. In an unfortunate blunder, M1 has published a full page ad in the Straits Times promoting the hotline number of rival StarHub. The ad, promoting M1's fibre broadband connection, ran on the front page of Straits Times' Home section, asking readers to visit M1's site, or call 1633 for more information on its deals. However the number to the customer care hotline was for its rival StarHub. M1 Shop's hotline is actually 1623. "The misprint was an oversight, and the error has been rectified," a spokesperson from M1 told Marketing, declining to comment further. The agency in charge of the print ads, HG Advertising, also declined to comment on the matter. Marketing understands M1's creative agency Y&R did not work on the ads. 4. Reef-building coral communities in the Great Barrier Reef --the world's largest coral reef-- may now be calcifying at only about half the rate that they did during the 1970s, although live coral cover may not have changed over the past 40 years, a new study finds. In recent decades, coral reefs around the world, home to large numbers of fish and other marine species, have been threatened by human activities such as pollution, overfishing, global warming, and ocean acidification. This last process affects ambient water chemistry and availability of calcium ions, which are critical for coral communities to calcify, build, and maintain reefs. Comparing data from reef surveys during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s with present-day (2009) measurements of calcification rates in One Tree Island, a coral reef covering 13 sqkm in the southern part of the Great Barrier Reef, Silverman et al. show that the total calcification rates, i.e., the rate of calcification minus the rate of dissolution, in these coral communities have decreased by 44 per cent over the past 40 years; the decrease appears to stem from a threefold reduction in calcification rates during nighttime. The authors suggest that reduced calcification, particularly during nighttime, could be caused by boring and other erosional activities brought about by a change in the type or the number of boring organisms (e.g., sea cucumbers) that live on these coral reefs. Another possibility is that warming water temperatures and ocean acidification could be causing increased dissolution of coral reefs over the past 40 years. The study is consistent with previous estimates and predictions of reduced calcification rates of coral communities in the Great Barrier Reef. Source: http://www.fis.com/f...5072&ndb=1&df=0
  5. I have a set with parabolic reflector, will check and revert. KNS, I just gave away my AGE!
  6. I suggest you clean / brush your Glass and LR from nuisance algae. And to siphon your sand-bed from diatom and cyano. To be honest, leaving them there do nothing to improve your water quality but will in fact, cause the deterioration of water quality.

  10. Herewith is an article in Reef Keeping Magazine about Vinegar Dosing - http://reefkeeping.com/joomla/index.php/current-issue/article/116-vinegar-dosing-methodology-for-the-marine-aquarium
  11. I like the way the second link describe the title of the article - controversy? LOL. Isn't that how we scold people at times? LMAO
  12. Hey bro, Good job on your patience and dedication in getting your tank ready for the frog fish, i can also see success around the corner. However on the prudent side, you did not indicate the amount of LRs and LS you have in your tank. IMHO predatory fishes need more surface area for nitrifications through LRs LS or trickle filter to process waste. I am a little worried with the amount anemones in your tank as some may sting your frog fish who is more benthic. If I were you I will remove the BTA as they will expands greatly when conditions meet their needs. Last issue to address is your selection of your frog fish, that I feel you may have already covered after reeding your above conscientious efforts. Hope that helps, looking forward to your tank thread.
  13. So how many wife and gf you have??? LOL
  14. I agree. Although Bio-pellets, Vodka, Sugar and Vinegar are Carbon source, different strains of bacteria will utilize it differently. And reefers needs to find the best match to their systems if they are embracing any particular brand as a whole. The easier way, I feel is to get bacteria and carbon source from a single particular brand (Prodibio with Biotim) or find a match that has been tested with good results by fellow reefers. If you intend to try matching yourself, you will need to be patience and use good judgement to ensure that you do not cause more problems such as cyano or algae bloom or worst tank crashed.
  15. Another mistake I make when I was battling Aiptasia was I tried brushing concentrated kalkwasser into the LRs. This, I found out later causing the phosphate to be bounded into the LRs and was later leached to fuel nuisance algae.
  16. Bro, I think scrubbing works for me too. Have a few rocks that periodically have GHA and i managed to addressed them with frequent scrubbing in my display tank. However, there is one rocks that scrubbing did not work even water parameters were ok. I surmise that this particular rock is leaching phosphate and because of the shape of the rock, I could not reach into the inner part of the LR that is expose to light but not my brush. So what I did was, I place some rowa in a bag and stuff the bag into this rock. After 2 weeks i change the rowa and repeated. Now no more GHA. Hope that helps.
  17. Did I hear frag???!!! LOL Nice work Honkit, your have exceeded your former glory.
