  1. Guys, Please note that NSW is "alive" with plankton, microbes and bacteria and therefore it is not possible to have pristine condition as freshly mixed synthetic salt-mix and water. As the NSW age, these organisms will flourish and/or die depending on the condition of the NSW storage and food supply available. Some buy NSW is to save cost on salt-mix. I uses NSW when I am cycling 1st to save cost and most importantly, I wanted to add some of the micro-organisms found in NSW which I belief cannot be found in synthetic mix. However, as my tank progresses, I prefer to use salt-mix to maintain the parameters. Also as NSW is harvested from nature, you cannot have guaranteed parameters: * when NSW are harvested during rain, the NSW will have low salinity * when NSW is harvested during full moon, you may get gametes and eggs of corals and fishes * when NSW is harvested when there is a recent discharge of waste, you will get harmful chemical So it is not fair to blame the LFS as what they can do to to NSW is limited: * most NSW are harvested in coastal water that are deem clean by the contractor * most LFS will pump the NSW into a large darken container for settlement of impurity before bagging * some LFS will include some filters/media to polish the water before bagging Hope that helps.
  2. Just tested last night, mine worked. PM me if you are interested.

  5. Nice set-up and well thought sump layout, care to share your tank maker?
  6. For CL650, I will use 1500 to 2000l/hr pump. If I were you, I will ensure that the water level is about 2-3inch below the highest point of the neck.If I want wet skmmate I will bring it higher and for dry skimmate lower. Optimally, you should expect skimmate daily.
  7. Cooking LRs is not boiling them, please read herewith for more info on the Cooking of LR: http://www.remsreef.com/2010/04/cooking-live-rock.html http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f197/live-rock-cooking-cleaning-etc-85065.html http://www.livestockusa.org/CURING.html http://www.reeffrontiers.com/forums/f124/cooking-live-rock-27913/ Hope that help.
  8. I have struggled with Aiptasia a couple of years back. Here's what I did: 1) Remove all LR to be sun-dried 2) Discard LS 3) Bleach entire tank include pumps and pipe works I would bleach LR as it will sting to high heavens. I think sun-dried is good enough as the beneficial bacteria and microbes will survive deep in the rock while the nuisance at the surface is killed. If I were you, I will just cooked the rocks.
  9. Isopods. Herewith are more info - http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2002-05/rs/index.php

  11. Ryan, you sure you really use it to reduce micro-bubbles???!!!
  12. Nice research done of the equipment used!
  13. Hmmm, between Aquasonic G2 and Beamworks,I prefer the beamworks as I never like lights on clamps. Nevertheless glad you made you choice over PL.
  14. The colors of corals will looks better if supplement with a balance amount of blue, royal blue and violet. If just with the 10k LED, reddish corals will look brown etc. Same theory as we use MH, we need to supplement with T5s of different colors. Hope that helps.
  15. IMHO, its a 0.06w LED light set thus shouldn't be overkill for your tank size. But do agree that if it can have a few violets or royal blue will be more ideal.
  16. Green Berets doing beach assault??? Awesome!

  18. Ya, very sorry was busy preparing MASS projects, now left with 2 more in Dec. Shanon, any reasons why you did not consider using liners? I know of a few concrete ponds that struggle with heat during sunny days.
