For me, I feel that A. Calfo's point boils down to 2 words "Indiscriminate Buying". Often we see people buying for the sake of buying, buying because another guy is buying, buying because its on sale, buying because everyone has it, buying because it is rare, buying because it just ship-in, buying because no one else has it, buying because..... no reason, just buy loh. And this problem does not happens to marine only, it happens Everywhere. But for the Marine hobbyist, I feel that we have the responsibilty! Especially when we are dealing with nature that we know so little about. I still can remember back in the early 80s whereby we are so impressed with a marine tank with dead corals and a couple of damsels swimming around. Within a span of 20yrs the Marine Hobby has progresses so tremendously to the extent that we are now keeping sps, fishes that were thought to be sure DOA! All these could not have happens without the continous efforts by our pioneers! Efforts to continuously search for a better solution and efforts to protect and prevent any unnecessary destruction of the Reefs. If the conservation process is not done - I am sure it would now be illegal to keep marine tanks! Herewith is a statement I strongly stand by "Reefs, like forests, will only be protected in long term if they are appreciated" Eric H. Borneman But in order to let the rest of the generations that comes after us to "Appreciate", we need to be resposible reefers that do not sway with trends and buy stocks and equipments indiscriminately to the extent that we create fools out of oursleves. I can still remember a incident whereby I am outside one LFS. A family passes by and one of the child wanted their daddy to get them some marine fish and guess what........ The father pointed at the shop and said, "Son, these are the reefs murderers"!

Thanks for sharing bro Rumor. Time to time we just need someone to bring us back to reality.

They are one of the most aggressive dotty around. Super fearless, even dare to attack fishes 2 to 3 times its size.

So Chanbi, where can we get IKS products in Singapore?

One thing I discovered about dried hyacinth is that it not treated properly, they will harbour boring beatles that will deposit their poops everywhere. I threw away one couch after I repeatedly treating it with wood worms killer to not avail! Hope it will not happen to yours.

Nice set-up! Hope you could share your experience of maintaining a scratchless acryllics tank - cuz this is the biggest set-back to acryllics. I have several times tempted to call Ian but always put off due to the fact that I dunno know how I can clean the walls without scratching them.

Dear reefers, Recently a couple of my friends who have started Hypo-salinity treatment on their fishes suspected of have Ich (Cryptocaryon irritans) realized that there are still white spots on their fishes even their SG is 1.008. After much discussion and research we suspected that it could be Amyloodinuim and here is the document I found on the web that states "Freshwater dips are effective in killing free-swimming stages of amyloodinium; however, since encysted stages are protected, a single freshwater dip is not an effective treatment. Decreasing the salinity in a system has been suggested as a method for controlling amyloodinium epizootics, but because the organism flourishes in brackish water, the effectiveness of this strategy is doubtful." Here is the link to the research conducted by University of Florida. Amyloodinium Scary.....

You can try Henry's Food. It is been used by lots of us to tempt even the most finicky eater! In fact, seeing his Moorish Idol in his display eating his food is already convincing enough liao.

wad makes an AT difficult to keep?
Gouldian replied to PBT's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
Iori_del have covered 2 important points, I would like to add another. I feel that AT needs to be the boss of the tank. Whenever the number one position is threaten by another fish, it will be stressed. And with stressed, it will be prone to ich and then.......... I added a Purple Tang to my main tank yesterday and although PT and AT are about the same size the PT being more aggressive tilt the dominance of the AT and after a couple of hours, our good friend (Ich) paid a visit to the AT. Boh bian dose the remaining Salifert Stop Parasite and as of the evening white spots significantly reduced. But still praying. -
Thanks for sharing! Good to be reminded how lucky we are.

Oh my GOD! My IDOL! Upz for you SALE! -
It is normal for True Perc to stay at the same spot. Just make sure that they feed and slowly they will be more adventurous liao.

Should be lah.

Got. But I thought you prefer the authentic Henry's one thus will be getting for you this Friday . If you want my rojak recipe, I can part some for you as well.
-
I like to feed frozen to my fishes and corals. What I do is mixed Henry's food with Flubby's gourmet and then add in more stuffs that I think is beneficial to the corals as well such as zooplankton.

I think it is meant to be place as substrates rather than CR Media. SeaChem But I am definitely interested to know where in Singapore I can buy it, cuz it is definitely cheaper than Caribsea - $45. Will be using to create DSB in sump.
-
Not sure whether it can be used for Ca reactor but I think it is definitely a good alternative source of aragonite for DSB. Seems to be cheaper that Carribsea Btw, where is it sold?
