  1. Fire fishes are timid, they will not come out if there are angels or tangs in the tank.
  2. No worries, we are all learning here. You may be right Madmac.
  3. I second Decent kid on this. In "Reef Invertebrates" by A. Calfo and R. Fenner, it is written: "Contrary to popular misconception, the discoloration of sand visible substratum through the glass is not dangerous anaerobic activity or even indicative of other organisims spread throughout the rest of the sand bed. The 'colours' most often are simply algae and other micro-organisms flourishing in a very thin layer bewteen the glass and sand from direct and refracted light through the aquarium. (H. Schultz)."

  7. I am not aware of any cleaner shrimps that is big enough to consume Isopods. The usual way is to remove it using tweezers or forceps. You may want to check out this Link
  8. Or you may simply purchase it at Petmart, they carry Coral Labs Tubby too.
  9. No worries, we are all learning too. Me, I am still struggling with AT, dun dare to try Sunburst. Btw, my AT is eating pellets, henry's food and cyclopeeze. But still in is very small quantity, not aggrressively pursuing food like what an AT should be doing.
  10. Hi Damien, I think besides the ich you also have Isopods. Think you may want to remove all inverts and do a Hyposalinity Treatment on you tank soon. After you have done a complete round of Hypo, it is prudent to always QT any livestocks before adding into your main tank in case you re-introduce new pest into your tank. Good luck bro.
  11. Yah loh, both the Sunburst and the AT are finicky thus dun be too hard on yourself. Nice set-up anyway.
  12. Bro, I think you already know th answer. If you can drip kalkwasser nightly, you will be able to more or less maintian KH and Ca. If you change you water more frquently, you will be able to remove excess DOM and also replenish trace elements.
  13. Try reading this thread, it will help. http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=23770
  14. Hi Damien, you have it right the first step but as mentioned you will need to slowly mix your tank water with the water in the bag too. If you, the chances of them dying on you will still be high.
  15. Shrimps, especially fire shrimps need to aclimate slowly. What I usually do after floating the bag for 15 mins is that I will use a air tube to slowly siphon the water from my main/QT tank into the bag until the bag is full. Then I will wait for another 10-15mins before I will add the shrimp slowly into the tank. I will usually gently lower the container in to the tank and wait for the shrimp to decides when it wants to leave the container into the main/QT tank.
  16. Bro, I believe it could be Black Ich. Herewith is a write-up for your necessary actions. Black Ich disease appears as small black spots distributed over the fish's body. The spots are about half the size of a pinhead or smaller. They are primarily found on the body and are are especially easy to see on light-colored body areas or on the transparent areas of the fins. Affected fish will scratch on the bottom or other aquarium objects. Other signs of the disease include lethargy, development of a pale body color, and lack of appetite. The disease is caused by a small worm known as a tubellarian. After parasitizing a fish, the worms develop on the fish's skin and gills and acquire dark pigmentation. They are freely mobile and will tend to move over the surface of the fish. After five or six days depending on the environmental conditions, they drop to the bottom of the aquarium. There they mature, with the development of the young worms within their body. Once the development of the young is complete, the adult worms burst, releasing the free swimming young that infest new host fish. The worms can be controlled with various commercially available medications. Formalin based products or those containing organophosphate compounds such as trichlorfon appear to be the best medications. In addition to the use of medications, any excessive buildup or organic material and debris should be siphoned from the aquarium several times during treatment. Since the young worms develop on the aquarium bottom, the removal of debris will aid in controlling the disease by reducing their numbers. 17. Nice work Astrobol, great to see you back!
  18. Yup. You should get his "Book of Coral Propagation" not only for the funny things that happens to him espcially the one on him trying to film tridacnid clams spawning. But also for the expert and "no holds barred" information it provides. My all time favourite book!
  19. Actually the palytoxin are contain within the palythoas and will only be released if cut or punctured. Thus as mentioned, if you practiced proper hygiene after touching / propagating palythoas there shouldn't be any problems. In fact there are a few prominient reefers that survive to tell their stories. One such expert is Anthony Calfo.
  20. I used to travel to SF quite frequently previously. Initially when I first went there I often forgets to tip, due to the fact that we dun practice it here in Singapore, I never once encountered bad service. However, after a few trips I started tipping and even became friends with the wait staffs. I once asked them why they did not insist for a tip from me in the begining since tipping is compulsory in SF. Guess what they said???? SF wait staff: "Asians never tip. Even if they tip, they are bad tippers, so why loose your sleep over it?"
  21. Coco worms will shed its heads once in a while, look closely at the coco worm tube. If you still see its red body, it could grow back its head in due time. But if you dun see any signs of lives in due time, it means that your cocoworm is up the lorry liao. Keep the shell as they provide very good homes for some gobies and dottybacks.
  22. I have a Garden Eel in my 6" dsb sump / refugium. It feeds of zooplanktons and pods. I dun really get to see it much as it is very shy and resides in a area in the sump that is block from my view unless, I squeeze my head between the sump and cabinet.
  23. To me, OEM is very common in the market and it happens everywhere. If Aquaz needs to explain when they order products from OEM manufacturers. Then should we get Sony to explain for its products that are OEM by Samsung? Should we get Artica to explain the price difference of their chiller vs Daiel? There are still many more if we dwell deeper - but is its necessary? I dun think so, because this is just how the world spin. I have personally used both epoxies with no problems at all, although I feel safer using Aquaz since it is manufactured for aquarium usage rather than industrial usage. As we all know a slight introduction of phosphates, copper or slicates might not be serious in industrial applications but will be detrimental in a closed set-up like ours.
  24. Kole is yellow eye Ctenochaetus strigosus, if it has two spot between the tail and the body, it could then be a Ctenochaetus binotatus
  25. Should be a Ctenochaetus striatus.
