Thanks bro using the above method, how many days do you need to cycle the system if you use matured live rocks, brand new sand, using nsw, dosing bacteria. Can i run the system for two days and add in corals and fishes?

you should ask them and share with us here. This must be a rare one from coral farm.

Skimless tank with live stock and corals
gymbvolka replied to gymbvolka's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
"Ammonia is toxic to fish. If it is not zero, I would have lost all the fish right?" Yes they are toxic to living things in the tank, but fishes can tolerate to ammonia to certain levels. What method do you use to reduce ammonia in your system? As your UAS mainly take in nitrate and PO4. Maybe is your regular water change that reduce ammonia. but you only do water change for 2-3 weeks and those high feeding. How do you achieve zero for ammonia? -
"used sands and top it up with new layer sands to seed" sound like an great idea BTW can we keep them ( keep them in nsw after washing) like keeping live rock in a container of NSW? Do we also need water movement to keep them alive?

Reporting of reefers on Dishonest Acts
gymbvolka replied to stevenchia's topic in General Reefkeeping_
sound like sellers has more dishonest acts. How about buyer? When i first started this hobbies and just join this forum, i bought two fishes from two different senior reefers also. that time i was really new and inexperience. One was from a QT tank, was told he just caught from the main tank, colour fading and therefore he dim the light, die the next morning. Second one was already packed in plastic bag, travel all the way there and decide not to waste the trip, die the next day also. I didn't blame anyone or question them. ( wasting time) but i do feel upset. maybe is true the fish is too stress up and die the next morning. Maybe is my problem not to reject such buying without really doing all the preventive measures. Again, who are we to judge? everyone has their own explanation. I told myself if i would to buy stuff again from this forum, i make sure i don't repeat the same mistake. Hot fishes and coral, everyone wants, i learned to be more patient now. And i will never buy from these reefers who i had bad experience with Then can you share with me : 1. Members who has no intention to bid for stuff/corals in the forum ( member try to raise bid value higher for his buddy) consider dis-honest act? Example: support! support !in the end the newbie or inexperience reefer just bid the last round. 2. experience reefer's "know how" buy discount price coral from farm and frag to sell in the forum at premium, consider dishonest act or consider proper trade? before i join this forum, i already hear from ex-members from the farm regarding this. i think the main objective/goals for this forum is to encourage people to this hobby, create awareness, make nice friend with common interest, share reefing knowledge and technics, support the local marine industries, that is why we have the sponsor coming in. in general, most reefers are keen in pasar malam column with the highest views posting, but only see few reefers sharing and advising the newbie. 100 posting to allow newbie to post in pasar malam, no wonder newbie post rubbish, they are already so inexperience, how many things can they share than posting remarks and simple questions. Hope this website is not just trading forum that benefit the buyer or seller/ reseller, if not i think the sponsors will be wasting their effort and at dis-advantage. Seriously, i still don't understand why i can buy a colony of Vietnam zoas covered with so many eagle eye and radioactive green button polyps @ S$18-20 and i see reefer selling one polyps for 1-2 dollars? I like to apologise first if i have make any stupid comments, but is just my thoughts. If i did say anything wrong, maybe pls share with me. Thank you. -
the wave created by the wave maker will send transport the food to the polys.

just some sharing, I think LED is more efficient than fluorescent. Not just less heat but also higher PUR value light spectrum In term of maintenance, LED life span is much longer, when fluorescent aged, they produce un-useful light source (more yellowish) and cause algae to grow faster. therefore cut down the hassle of changing fluorescent bulb
-
Yes, angle of the lens is important. They not only direct the angle of the light source and also determine the intensity and focus of the light Normally marine LED light come in 90 degree, rarely 120deg ( unless is super cheap product), 90 degree lens can suit soft and LPS ) however the when come to SPS, is always prefer to be 60 degrees. ( more intense and focus) Without a len, the light will diffuse and spread all around the tank. This will also causes more algae growth at the side of the tank glass.

no senior reefer to share with newbie?

I prefer return to sump although chiller kick in faster. In my view, return to main, with additional pipe to the main tank is quite messy in outlook To pump the water to the main tank, required a longer pipe, therefore a bigger chiller pump may be required. ( height ) This increase power consumption and more heat regenerate in the tank. My 2cent

Recovery of seafan (Non Photosynthetic)
gymbvolka replied to Terryz_'s topic in General Reefkeeping_
ote] yup for non photosynthetic sea fan is feeding regular for growth and also good water parameter. -
candy and trumpet coral is the same?
-
yup agree, i visit other reefer, so do not have sump and using just canister. Their tank still keeps SPS. So i guess they do work.

Setting up a 4 ft fowlr tank
gymbvolka replied to exomanor's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
i dont think u need 2 skimmer. U need just one reliable and powerful skimmer that is able hold your over overstocking and feeding. One skimmer also mean less noisy and save more space for other equipment in ur sump. of course anyone can have even 3 skimmers if they want, in case any of the skimmers broke down -
can the stand support the top weight? Look abit scary.

the corals in the picture look bleached?? are they in good health also?

Marine Life Park at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS)
gymbvolka replied to moscowites's topic in General Reefkeeping_
looking at those picture, they have more reef fishes than the underwater world. The last time i visited underwater world in June was very disappointing. Nothing much on corals and reef fishes. All the plain color deep water species. -
Artica chiller 1/10 can support 450L of water?
gymbvolka replied to gymbvolka's topic in Product Reviews
very good information and very technical guy, TQ. May i ask you on an effective and power efficient information when deciding the horsepower of JBJ. given a total volume of tank ( empty) 500L, do you think we need to minus the live rock and equipment that took up the volume of the whole tank. Some reefer say is always good to up or double the size of the chiller, do you think this is more power efficient ? ( of course i think it has faster cooling effect) -
Hi all, If i get from used live sand from reefer, is it true that i have to water the sand first with NSW before putting in and at least save a cup of cultivated bacteria unwashed sand for quick set up? I also need advise if the live sand in soak in a pail of NSW, how long can i leave it for? ( if there is not water filter or water movement, it is ok?) How many days before it become dead sand? Thank you.

very nice, yes i saw one in fish channel on my last visit in the medium display tank.
