help pls, my frend need it on ich advice
typrobin replied to vicky's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
vicky, try to reduce the salinity gradually everyday until it reaches about 1.015, don't do it in a single day... doing it gradually will not stress the fishes....then let it remain like tat for 1mth to clear away all the ich..... the temperature should also be higher than normal, make it like 29degreeC or even 30, ich don't do well in high temperature. the important thing is to let it remain for at least 1mth....to really clear off all the parasite.... this might help... http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?...topic=13708&hl= -
getting my MH soon, 2 X 150W...got everything a extremely cheap price.... 1st set: 20kk BLV bulb + e-ballast + uv glass= $40, gotta get new casing from viclite = $30-40.....so total = $70-80 2nd set: complete set = $100 total 2 X 150W = $180 only...hehehehe..both sets used about 2-3mths....will try 20kk bulbs 1st...if dun like then change to 10kk.... juz got my new hood yesterday, free...my fren is a contractor and got his workers to do it for me, but he had to buy them beer.....the old one is too heavy, dun want to stress my tank, juz in case.... like the colour of my new hood, exactly the same as my tv console.... also switch the return pipe to the center of the tank.... khalib: point taken...will most likely tilt it only about 20-30degree...no worries about the side viewing cos it will be covered so tat my tank has only 1 viewing side, the front....

getting your tank wiped out is not a bad thing actually....my tank got wiped out too, due to disease, spoilt additives and negligence....now my tank is still empty after about 1mth....mom questioning me already.... at least, we now learn what to do and what not to do....its a painful experience but i fully believe u will do better the next time round....now i am aiming for more challenging LS like tangs....the ultimate one will be powder blue tang....at least now my tank does not have aggressive damsels and clowns... just don't give up because of a mishap, its not entirely your fault....a nuke is unavoidable, juz have to get asea cuke with higher IQ....hahahahaha

one thing i dun understand is y do u have to suck out the air?? i have no problem switching on and off my return pump leh.....maybe your pump is not strong enuf? i am not using a powerfull eheim, i am merely using a atman 105.....no such problem at all...
-
hhhmmm... i roughly get wat u mean...however water change is only done once every 2 weeks(normally) rite?? i don't see a problem with the air pocket thing, i presume it is not much of a problem....yup air will be sucked in but i don't find any problem with that....

bro....call me leh.....90024001....robin here....

Where can i get big bags of salt ?
typrobin replied to hamannbmw's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
buy them in tubs....i saw Aq@$star in yishun selling them in tubs....not too sure about the brand and price...should cost u lesser if u buy in tubs.... -
bro, u've got PM!!!

another method is to use a check valve, but review shows tat there will still be back flow but slow back flow....wat do u mean by air pocket??
-
usually i juz mix with more water leh....the use the clear solution again and again.... should i do tat? the white particles are undissolved kalk.so i try to dissolve them...but dun ever pour them into your tank, its poisonous...

i think its better if u use a netting to cover the 1st layer of sand maybe about 3inches so that at least this 3inches will remain undisturbed.

bro, i really dunno where u read the article from but i personally feel tat skimmer is the no.1 equiptment tat MUST be used. not changing water for 3-5yrs?? i think its bullshit (no offences, think the article mislead u)...unless your tank is connected to the ocean or u have a tank as big as the south china sea. a very simple theory, watever goes in must come out juz like watever goes up must come down.all the fish food, coral food, planktons, additives and any other things that we add into the tank, somehow or another it must be removed physically, as such, we definitely need to do water change!even matured tanks of experienced reefers need to do water change once in a while, perhaps lesser but 3-5yrs is ridiculous.pls always remember that the ocean is much bigger and number of fishes per gallon of water is definitely much much lesser that in our tanks DSB is not god, juz remember that the ocean has a much much much wider DSB that our tank, therefore natural filtration can occur.one point tat u noted is true, DSB needs 6mths to 1yr to mature but it's DEFINITELY not enough to maintain a healthy tank. as for the sump, most reefers do not really use it as a filtration medium. most use a few pieces of sponge filters to filter out the bigger undissolved particles.the sump is mainly used to house equiptments like skimmer and maybe bags of carbon and phosphate removal and macroalgae tat are unsightly. and also it creates a bigger resorvoir of water. bro, no offences meant but i think u should ask experienced reefers rather than read articles from i dunno where, sometimes this perfect systems need to be taken with a handful(not even a pinch) of salt....
-
since u are willing to get such a big set up, y not get it done with IOS and a sump? cannister filtration is workable but very troublesome....especially when u need to wash the filters. for such a tall tank, i think at least 12mm, gotta check with tank maker to be sure. at such a height, u might wanna use at least use 250W MH to penetrate the water.....well, when the MH comes in especially 250W, chiller is a must. 2 X 250W will be ideal to give the light a good spread as your tank is 3ft....to be frank i would suggest a 4ft tank, coz 3ft is kinda weird for MH...if 1 is placed in the center, the spread is not good. if 2 are used, it is a little overkill...juz my opinion...

basically, hair algae grow because of high phosphate and high nitrate....hair algae need light too...so to curb this problem, get yourself some phosguard, rowaphos or any similar product. more frequent water change will reduce nitrate. reduce your light too, reduce the no. of hours it is switch on....

saw it yesterday in clementi 328.... i think the uv is 8W but not too sure bout the pump....
