mistake....the ang mo is running a iwaki md55 for his dual spray injector.... i am now planning out to do an experiment on 3 skimmer....here's the criteria 1) all 3 skimmers will be of exactly the same dimensions 2) running all 3 skimmers on the same tank 3) all 3 skimmers will run on a single resun md55 each 4) will take 3-4 days to fine tune each skimmer and run them for 2 weeks after cleaning the collection cups skimmer 1: single beckett skimmer 2: dual spray injector skimmer 3: single spray injector hope tat i can get 3 volunteers who are willing to buy the skimmers and the md55s from me after i am done with the test....also need a volunteer to house all 3 skimmers for the test and adsorb the electricity charges.... anyone??? of course there will be a risk to the reefer who volunteers to house my skimmer... 1) the electricity charges... 2) the possiblity of a tank crash when i remove the skimmers....but will do them gradually...1 skimmer every 3-4days.... but the good thing is, during this 2 weeks of testing....u can feed your fishes like mad....good for those tanks with ich problems....pump up the fishes' immune system by feeding more and provide squeaky clean water.....

wah damn cheap ah.... bro u forgot to add another ZERO issit?? two hundred?? -
wah....without calcium reactor u can grow sps ah?? very well done man.... so far u have the simplest equiptments for sps tank....not like other experts with tons of equipts.... i dunno whether to praise u or to splash water at u, but it is really very nice....hope your sps can strive....

my gobies kena whack by my ccommon clowns last time....

the height and size of the reaction chamber should be as huge and as tall as possible.... it depends on your budget and space constraint... it is said to improve the contact time of the bubbles and the water thus more dirt will be extracted.... a mazzei injector is a venturi....i believe for such injector to work to its optimal, a strong pump should be used....the stronger the better... if u can afford, u might even wanna use a mx70....however, if u use a stronger pump, u have it enlarge the the skimmer as a whole (taller and larger reaction chamber and bigger gate valve) to maximize efficiency.... i think it mainly depends on your budget.... so basically everything should be proportional.... bigger pump = bigger skimmer body = thicker wallet needed and vice versa

the head will stop some day....

seriously i have no idea how well it will perform if i hook it up with a stronger pump....i ask the ang mo who did the dual spray injector, he used a iwasaki 40 to run a single spray injector...but running a mx70 for the dual spray injector.... i think the stronger the pump the better it will be, but due to low resources, i can't experiment on it.... so far the eheim 1060 is doing good enuf for me....very tempted to use vinoth's md55 but i think it is rather rude to use his brand new pump without asking....
-
i strongly believe the equation works this way dissolved organic compound >> ammonia >> nitrite >> nitrate therefore, if DOC is low the end product nitrate will be low too... that's y matured tanks with powerful skimmers will have nitrate at a controlled level....ask roidan (the lazy master of a 6ft beauty), he didn't change his water for about 6mths or more and corals still doing well.... if i am wrong, pls correct me...thanks...

What happens when you use a higher skimmer pump?
typrobin replied to strat's topic in Product Reviews
i agree with gaga.... when a larger pump is used, the water intake and the air intake increases naturally...u have to control the air intake because when the air intake increase, the bubbles may not be as fine....u might end up with larger bubbles.... but however, if u decrease the air intake, water intake will increase thus the skimmate will be wet and thin if the skimmer body is not tall enuf.... i suggest that u use watever pump is provided for the skimmer and not change it...but if u are DIYing the whole thing, then u can give it a try.... -
whao!!! wat a piece of DIY...perfect design...looks like it's a commercial equipment....
-
hey cookiemunster, thanks for the advise...really appreciated that u spent your precious time on my thread and even gave me your personal comments....thanks.... i really hope more pple will give me comments....especially DIY experts like cmswong, Joe_p, anthony, marineman and Tanggy....will update more when i have the time...thanks all!!!

the foam created by the ULTRA-FINE bubbles of a H&S is extraordinary, i seriously doubt any other skimmer can produce such fine bubbles... not forgetting the electricity consumption, vinoth's H&S is running on a aquabee which is 38W (i think) but i am running a eheim 1060 which is 65W .... of cos the foam contains the dissolved organic compound very well, it goes on top and stays there...mine is like a volcano due to the burping.... hope i can solve the burping problem with my upcoming design..... but $800-900 for a H&S, i will still go for my DIY skimmer which cost me about $300 (inclusive of pump).....anyway the electrcity consumption is $3.11 more per month...which will therefore take 200mths (16years) for me to earn back the cost of a H&S....no choice, i am a poor man.... anyone with spare cash? i would rather u guys go ahead with a H&S or even better, an oversized beckett....

wa lau, suan me like tat....u too much ah...wanna pick a fight ah?? hahahaha okok, i think sicce etrema is cheapest amongst the few brands that WEI indicated...i believe petmart has the best price for pumps...if otherwise u might wanna try reborn...but if u save $10 on the pump and end up spending $15 on transport, i would rather u check out our online sponsor Eaquanature....i have PM u the contact to Petmart and Marine Life (nearer to your place), u can give them a call to check the price....
-
did more adjustments and managed to produce even finer bubbles...but burping persist....as mentioned by ERIC, the design for such a skimmer shouldn't be like tat...it will cause burping and disrupt the foam built up.... compare the difference between the foam in my riser and the foam on the cover of the H&S....
-
yup...cookiermunster....u hit it where it hurt most.... just went back to take a look....the foam of the H&S was amazingly thick but mine was thin and wet...it couldn't foam properly because of certain design fault...the fault cause a bit of burping and collapses the foam whenever it builds up... here are the results....dirt can be seen splashed all around the cover of the collection cup but no solid foam was built....

pls search it yourself lah....my god....u need me to buy 4 u?? hahahhaa petmart prices are quite good...
