  1. didn't notice that this was posted... anyway here is my story... i have very high evaporation rate in my tank, about 3-4ltrs per day (using 2 X profantic fans to cool my tank)... i top up the water with kalk solution (ph 12)..everyday i will pour the kalk solution into the last compartment of my sump (where the return pump is). once poured in, the water in that compartment will be ph 9...after about 5-10mins, the whole tank's ph will rise from 8 to about ph 8.3-8.5... my question is, rising the ph from 8 to 8.3-8.5 issit too drastic?? my neighbour told me that this will shock most of the fishes and might be the main reason y my sailfin has not recovered from the ich (although i feed like mad)... his recommendation is to drip the kalk solution slowly...but i dun have space to add another drip container which needs to be 3-4ltr big...another solution is to use a tubby but no money... so need to check with experts here whether the fluctuation is too wide? p/s: my tap water has ph 9.4..issit normal?? thanks in advance...
  2. HONG XIA (source) said that there are lotsa exotic stuffs coming in this fri...lotsa places...harlequin, lck and pasir ris...mostly red sea stuffs... luckily exam period for me, no need to spend money...
  3. quite true...but i rather save a bit of my money and not risk having mantis or other funny crabs in my tank... as for the coraline algae..i didn't do anything, just dose kalk everyday loh..
  4. hahaha...can rent your WRX to me liao loh...u no need to drive..hahaha... since u are sure that u were not speeding, then wait for any letter from your best friend(TP). ..maybe it just happened to shoot at another car somewhere around u?? there's always a chance that the machine might malfunction (hhhmmm...tat includes your speedo too ) from wat i understand the market rate is $50 per point...(if u know wat i mean )
  5. using cured liverocks will speed up the ANN cycle...maybe take a lesser time to complete...but definitely not immediately..
  6. dun think about catchin it even with thick gloves... IMO, not save try your best to take out that piece of rock where he is staying...and kill him...catching it with bare hands seems suicidal (defintely injure yourself)

  16. the membership fee should be something afforadable like $20-40 per year kind of thing...have to be renewed yearly... maybe can even have platinum class, gold class, silver class and normal class...just a stupid suggestion... think it should be a no-frills kind of membership card....

  19. hi all, i will be going to bankok end of this month...i know tat there is a fish area in chatuchat...wat should i look out for? any brands of things tat are cheap??
  20. can start saving money already...good... shall save about $50 a month...by april...about $300 to spend...
  21. for a single 250W, it doesn't give a good coverage...at most it will cover 2ft of your tank...i'm using a single 250W with spider reflector and the side of my tank is rather dark... i would rather that u choose other brands of pumps instead of atman...reasons being 1) they are not reliable 2) their flowrate is usually overrated 3) they suck hell lotsa electricity 4) cannot be runned externally 5) very hot i used to think that atman sounds cool but after using 106 for my return for about 1mth, i kept it in the storeroom and nvr touch it again...i bit the bullet at got myself an eheim 2nd hand... your tank is pretty tall, so i really suggest getting a 250W...150W won't be able to sustain hard corals that u might wanna put on the sand bed...since u have not bought any lights yet, y not use t5?? heard very very good reviews on them..but dun stinge, get as many tubes as your tank need...squeeze them to get the most out of them... try not to dose those additives blindly...do your parameter checks 1st before dosing anything...my last tank crash was due to this...i simply dose as stated on the instruction without testing..
  22. i heard trigger helps to solve the mantis problem...but then again, triggers will become your problem soon...unless he is a MANTIS-ONLY hunter...
  23. feeding once a week, prolly explains his low bio load... as from my understanding, it is still possible..to control nitrate, use a denitrator, to reduce phosphate use rowaphos, blah blah blah... but the main reason tat i change 20% weekly is to try to maintain a balance in all the chemicals in my tank..such as trace elements and other stuffs tat i usually dun and cannot monitor (magnesium, etc)... i dun have the luxury to utilise a 4ft tall dual beckett skimmer, and i enjoy watching my fishes fight for food (i feed almost 3times a day, so i have no choice but to work harder... my theory is, wat goes in MUST come out. if u feed your fishes, there must be a way to remove them, as such water change helps.. different pple has different ideology, i've also seen reefers tat don't change water for almost 1/2 a year, but he had powerful skimmer/s running in his tank...but there is no way that our tank can be compared to the massive ocean that doesn't need any water change... so it seriuosly boils down to wat u wanna keep and how u wanna keep it.. but from experience and advises tat i gathered here, do your water change as often as possible..
  24. LOVEBITE???!!!! it will probably look more like rotting vampire bites. ..dun think i want my neck to swell like tat...imaging my neck as big as my head.. .
