tanggy, i get wat u are trying to say...i actually intend to reverse the pump so that the intake will be on top and the output will be at the bottom, used your pic coz i have not started yet....as for my idea, is it good??

need some advise..... i was thinking of reversing the pump (view picture) so that the inlet/outlet will look like in the picture. 1.) there will be more contact time... 2.)some air that are pumped out will be sucked back in again for double chopping again thus making it finer also... 3.)probably i will use 2 pumps instead of 1 to create more bubbles also pls comment....

yesterday, i noticed tat there's something on my clownfish.it looked like a slug.dun look like white spot (itch) coz its quite a big lump. initially i tot my clown kena ulcer.i tried to catch him but of coz to no avail. subsequently, i notice it decided to stay close to my boxer. it stop moving its tail for about 3-4seconds and suddenly jerked.then it swam out, but this time without the "slug" on it.i guess the boxer managed to take it off.but the amazing thing is, the boxer actually helped my clown, and my clown seemed to know tat and stopped moving for a while.i heard that cleaner shrimp helps to clear itch but i know the lump on my clown is not an itch.prolly a slug.shall monitor him closely to see if there's any other lumps growing...... juz wanna tell a story.....hehehehe

wah lights on for 14hrs?? i think about 9-10 hrs enuf liao lah...ur LS needs to sleep also .and diatom, if not enuf light will go to sleep forever. oh yah, i think water circulation is important also..i read it somewhere b4.correct me if i'm wrong....

from your description i think u are using PL.2 tubes of PL should be ok leh..i am using PL also and my buttons are doing fine...hhhmmmm, try relocating them to a higher place, maybe rite on top of the hill to get more light.maybe your positioning not very good.

i was just thinking.... 1) a small diameter air tube for the water flow would be good as the suction pressure will not be too great.but then again i am afraid that the siphoning action might juz stop. 2) the air inlet pipe should be bigger in diameter.in such a way, the water outlet pressure will not be able to over-power the air inlet. imagine if u haf a air tube as the air inlet and a 4inch diameter pipe as water outlet, i think the water outlet pressure will be so great that the water in the sump will be suck into the container.... 3) why is the U-shaped air inlet pipe required.i tried to imagine the air inlet pipe to be a straight pipe without the U-shape, and i think it should work equally well. 4) since this auto-top up is using the gravity-siphoning action, the container should be place as high as possible. 5) i am thinking of DIYing one with a 10 gallon container, the material is the same as the kind of container used to sell dish-washing liquid.its quite rigid but of coz not as rigid as a acrylic box. advise / comments anybody??thanks

hey ben, i think your mushrooms are stressed....when i 1st bought them they had whitish intestinal-like thing sticking out bout all those cleared.... mine is not this problem....the whitish thing does stick on the mushrooms....its secreted out....like ejeculation...i wonder if it is spawning.....pls advise.

i've set up my tank for about 1mth....the following are the specs... 3ft x 1.5 x 1.5 tank 2ft x 1ft x1ft sump PL lights (1 white 1 blue) using fan to cool the water (27degreeC constant) about 4inches of DSB about 20kg of LR 2 clowns 2 red fire gobbies 1 bi-colour 3 damsels (banished into the sump) 1 hammer coral 5 rocks of mushrooms some funny corals tat i dun even know their name (bought coz they look good) my mum and gf are both complaining that my tank looks dull coz most of my corals + mushrooms are brown (cheaper mah) wat are your recommendations to me, to add more vibrance into my tank?personally i feel tat my tank is not in the best of condition (no MH lightings) for difficult corals and pocket also not as deep.pls advise me on wat are the better and nicer corals i should keep.i will consider all advises seriously.a million thanks...

was at PR on tues evening....saw 3 different kinds of fire gobbies the normal red fire goby, the "a bit rare" purple goby and a very special purple goby... SPECIAL PURPLE GOBY - instead of juz purple linings on the fish, the whole body is soft purple colour.dun think it is very common as it was the 1st time i see such gobbies....worth a look...price?? hhhmmmm....see for yourself...heheheh

12"(length) * 18"(breadth) * 20"(height) or issit 20" (L) X 18"( X 12"(H) actually i think it's not advisable to customise such a size...not economical.the seller might whack u hard on the price... y not go for those ready-made ones? such as 2ft x 1ft x 1ft? cheap and good...bout 6mm side and 10mm base should do....prolly below $80??not too sure bout the price but would be cheaper than if u customise....

hi all, i noticed that my mushrooms are secreting some kind of whitish liquid...looks slimmy also...wat's hapening? how to counter the problem (if it is a problem) i dun see any stress in them, no intestinal-like appearance, they are fully opened when my lights are on and i thought mushrooms are bullet-proof??pls advise...many thanks....
