after looking at my tank....more work to do.... 1) DIY durso pipe 2) shift return pipe to the center of the tank 3) complete my DIY skimmer 4) get more LRs and do a FINAL rescape(need at least 20kg of huge LRs) 5) get MH, decided to use 2 X 150W (20k).after testing and more testing, temperature remains around <29degreeC,using a single fan.when my hood comes will install another one 6) DIY aluminium stand for MH 7) still figuring out if i should get a tubby + kalk reactor or should i get a toyogo tub to modify a drip for top-up.most likely the latter, cos me on very tight budget. 8) get wooden planks to cover my side of the tank to make it look like a cabinet anyway, need to verify again....8kk MH are better for growth rite? 20kk is better for color, does it mean it enhances the corals' color growth or juz our viewing color?

really wondering if i should get a tunze.....hai.....money again....even b4 buying any LS..... have not completed my DIY skimmer yet...too tall already....hhhmmmm...tat makes it 1) complete my DIY skimmer 2) get more LRs and do a FINAL rescape(need at least 20kg of huge LRs) 3) get MH, decided to use 2 X 150W (20k).after testing and more testing, temperature remains around <29degreeC,using a single fan.when my hood comes will install another one 4) DIY aluminium stand for MH 5) still figuring out if i should get a tubby + kalk reactor or should i get a toyogo tub to modify a drip for top-up.most likely the latter, cos me on very tight budget. 6) get wooden planks to cover my side of the tank to make it look like a cabinet

after intense research, i've decided to use this fellow reefer's scaping as a guide.but i'll stack up both left and right side and leave the centre front portion as empty as possible...estimated, at least 20kg of LRs = at least $100.... MH = at least $200 (got a 2nd hand piece from fellow reefer) wooden plank = most likely free coz fren is a contractor

my exams coming soon...so my tank has to be ugly for at least another mth... now my priorities are 1) get more LRs and do a FINAL rescape(need at least 20kg of huge LRs) 2) get MH, decided to use 2 X 150W (20k).after testing and more testing, temperature remains around <29degreeC,using a single fan.when my hood comes will install another one 3) DIY aluminium stand for MH 4) still figuring out if i should get a tubby + kalk reactor or should i get a toyogo tub to modify a drip for top-up.most likely the latter, cos me on very tight budget. 5) get wooden planks to cover my side of the tank to make it look like a cabinet bought these 2 holders($2 each) to help in rescaping...so much cheaper than using eggcrates + pipes...
-
the sump....i changed the overflow pipe to the right side and the pump directly under my overflow to maximise the flowrate...
-
so far no leakages to my piping..... rescaped my LRs about 4 times and still not satisfied...too few LRs already.currently there's nothing in my tank....only left with the following 1) 5 pieces of mushies 2) 1 X clown 3) 1 X coral band shrimp 4) 1 X ###### shrimp everything died during the transaction to my new tank.so demoralised.but the good thing is, i can slowly stock up.gave my hammer to my bro-in-law coz i feel that it is suffering quite badly with poor lighting (2 X 36W PL)
-
hhhmmm....yup quite true....i believe it is the recent heat waves....dun u find the weather extremely intolerable? even the generators shut down due to overheating....
-
i believe he has not shifted the corals b4 they die.i think he has 2 seperate questions 1) y corals die 2) advises on new tanks.
-
corals die due to several reasons 1) high temperature, recently the heat waves are here...max temperature for corals to survive is 29degreeC....to thrive at most 25degreeC.wat cooling method are u using 2) high nitrate (i think its max 20) but always try to leave it below 10 3) low salinity, corals don't do well in low salinity, at least about 1.021, i think, i always leave it at 1.022 4) light, insuffient light might be also another cause of killing them slowly.wat lighting are u using 5) fodd, insuffient food might be also another cause of killing them slowly.are u dosing DT or any other forms of coral food?

2.5 X 1 X 1.5 marine tank Setup
typrobin replied to sam_always's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
as for the euro=bracing, it serves not only to withstand tall tanks but also the convinience of holding some necessary equipments like lights and fans...i think to euro-bracing addition should not cost u much, get it, should come in handy....be kiasu and u won't have to worry about flooding.... -
2.5 X 1 X 1.5 marine tank Setup
typrobin replied to sam_always's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
i always believe in being kiasu... some pple even use 6mm glass for 3X1.5X1.5 (my old tank) but now using 10mm for my 3X1.5X2(height). 2ft tank with 6mm glass should be sufficient ina sense the silicon has enuf contact space to curb the water pressure but wat most fear is falling LRs and corals that might cause cracks in the glass and of coz the inevitable flooding in your house.... to sum up, i think 6mm should be enuf but becareful of falling LRs, be 100% sure that your placement of LR is as sturdy as possible.... -
canister filter serves almost the same purpose as any other filter medium...the trouble is the washing of the mediums used... do not shift anything into your new tank until at least the sand is mature (cycling)....use your old LRs, they haf the beneficial bacteria already, buying new ones will require curing, unless u get from fellow reefers..

i think all pumps can be modified into a needlewhell... 1) remove the impeller (remove the blade), usually its not sealed dead 2) use a simple bioball, cut it into half..meaning,remove one side of the "pins". 3) in the center of the bioball, make a hole big enuf to fit into the impeller body, but tight enuf so that it will not to drop out during operation. 4) some use super glue to stick the bioball and impeller together but i used silicon. fix the the whole pump back and try....
