Top up with premix calcium water. Water circulation was power by 2 x 6060 tunze and 1 x 6080 tunze pump. Water turn over rate is about 30 times my tank size.....The size of my tank is 5½ft x 2ft x 2½ft.

hi..des... presently i m using a mud system with macro algae growing in it... the result it not as fantastic as it has proclaims.... but i do believe there is a level of nutrients export from the main tank and be consume by the algae... so far no asexual activities is seen probably due to the fact that i have the lights on 24/7.. and beginning i do see a bloom in cynobacteria after i change to the mud system... and i have to add a phosphate reactor to reduce the phosphate due to the fact that the algae is not fully established and till to date... i still have the phosphate reactor in operation as well as the algae in my sump but the mud system has 1 major advantage ... a large amount of copepods and organism was notice in my sump and i believe the copepods have been pump to my main tank which serve my anthias very well....

hi shaohui.... sad to hear that your bicolour has passed away.... well.. did u acclimatised it properly.. like putting it in a betta container and try feeding it 1st before letting it go... most of the time.. when we released the fish straight to the tank... it will try to feed on food which they are used to eat in the wild... and also depends on the fish nature... most of the time.. the fish will reject the food we introduce.... unless they are very comfortable in the tank... As for your 2ft tank.. what is the width and height... izzit 2 x 2 x 2... if your tank size is that... well keeping of bicolour angel should not posed too much of a problem esp when your parameters of your water is good..... but if your tank is smaller esp so if your tank size is 2 x 1.5 x 1.5 then keeping an angel fish will really posed a challenge to you.

My latest addition : Juv Emperor
hmkui replied to RAV-65's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
hi guys... well.. to what i experience..try not to feed them too much with pellets food... cos their colour will fade... although the manufacturer have claim that they have colour enhancement in it... so far most of the angel will colour up when they are fed with mixture of live, frozen food... as well as nori and some other algae... -
hi r u selling yr tunze pump pls let me know thks has pm u my nos

hi neokn... remember to look at the belly part when you want to purchase the regal... and remember to look for yellow belly kind rather then the grey belly cos it is more beautiful... unless u r looking for specimen from red sea which will cost you more but i think it is worth it... hope you have success on your next regal... take care...

well.. it really depends on what kind of corals you keep... so far my regal didn't even touch all my elegant coral or sps coral... including my soft corals. So again you have to do some research on the fish you going to keep as well as the corals u intend to have... and we will never be 100% safe to assume reef fishes are safe. For example... i have a blue tang and it is suppose to be reef safe but it has eaten all my open brain.... so it really depends on each individual fishes... so.. do research on the fishes you intend to keep and varify it yrself.....

my existing regal from red sea... not a good view thou will try to post more pic of it, specimen from red sea has more orange as compare to those from madive which is more yellowish.

hi neokn... sad to hear that your regal has passed away... i think it is important that you do not skip the very 1st step to quaratine the new fish in a separated container so as to let it has time to recuperate itself as well as tempting it to eat before of letting it go. Prior to that.. please check your water parameters esp NO3 although it is not that toxic compare to NO2 but too high a level will put more stress to your delicate fishes so please make sure the water parameters are ok before the attempt to try to keep some of this delicate fishes. As for regal ... most of the regal will stay away from SPS and LPS as this coral are not its primary food but if you have clams.. sponges.. all kinds of brain corals... then most likely your regal will start to pecking on it 1st, again... we can't be sure that regal is reef safe but among all the other large angel fish .... i could say that regal is the safest to keep in a reef tank. My regal from red sea has been with me for a year or more and it has not peck any of my sps and lps and so far it has not touch any of my corals it just feed on the food i prepare for him.

hi neokn.. well.. asfur got its point too... regal is slow to adapt itself to captivity... and no one is sure how the fish will react ... some fish react fine after being caught and put back in the container... while others will stress and die off... both are common incident... which will happen..so you have to make your decision... ours advice is based on our own experience and you have to decide and react accordingly and see which method is best suit for you. As for regal... most of the time they just shy away but some of them are bold... and some of them are terrioral i have had an encounter ....which my regal is so terriorial that it kill all my flame angel which i introduced later then him. It basically just chases the flame and wack him till he dies. While other encounters was that the regal just don't bother the rest of the angel. So you won't really know what you will getting just stick to yr instinct..ya.. and have fun.

hi neokn...well..since you have let it go into yr main tank.. by catching it and keep in a separate tank will put stress again to the fish especially so if the fish is not eating at the moment... since it started to peck on the rocks.. it means it is showing sign of eating as the rock should have some sponges or algae or other kind of food which interest yr regal... what you should do.. since you have let it go into the main tank is to try tempting it ... either with red algae which can be easily purchase at some of the LFS, just use a lettuce clip to hold the algae... LBS will help to tempt it too... if you trying to catch it.. i think u will stress yr fish... since you have yr LR inside your tank.. i think you would need to move yr LR in order to catch the fish and by doing it you will be disturbing yr tank and sand bed which again may put stress to other fishes and you may cause an outbreak of ich too. Regal angel is a delicate fish and such stress will defintely shy the fish away from the desire to feed and may even go on a hunger strike unless you could catch it without disturbing it too much.... since you have skip the 1st step of putting it in a separate container... it won't be wise to do so... unless you have the confidence that you won't alarm the fish too much when you catch it... not say that asfur method is wrong... but the risk is there and you have to decide which is best for you.....have fun fishing

hi.. neokn... well.. asfur is correct ..... you have chosen a grey belly regal... which is more picky in terms of food... well.. patient is the key and try tempting it with different food .. and see how it goes... best of luck ya....
-
hi neokn....great to hear you have bought yr regal.. 3" is a good size to start with... in normal situation yr regal will start resuming its normal feeding after it has settle down.. but again... it may not be case as each fish behave differently... i have encounter someone whom have keep his regal for almost a week before it start feeding.. so patient is the key.. if it doesn't start eating on the 2nd day then... proceed feeding on the third day... try to feed it with different kind of food.. red algae by julian sprung... live brineshrimp... frozen brineshrimp... etc... but becareful not to pollute your tank by overfeeding. Give the fish time to settle down and patient is the key to success... for me... i got this habit is i will wait till the fish has start eating my prepare food before i let it go into the main tank... no matter how long it takes...but make sure the container you keep yr fish is big enough... as regal are big angel fish, it will feel stress if you keep it in a small container... and if it still doesnt eat and showing sign of dying.. then.. you have to check other parameters such as your water content...is yr NO3 too high.. cos most of this delicate fish doesn't survive if the NO3 is too high.. yr water temperature.. as well as PH of the water.. hope this info is useful... and meantime relax and enjoy the beauty of the regal angel.
