Weekly Shipment Updates 22 - 28 Sep 14
Silentlurker replied to nwyk153's topic in Weekly LFS Stocks Report / LFS Info Centre
Any sharpnose or possum wrasse spotted? -
Day 3 of cycling. Parameters as follows: Salinity 1.025 Ph 7.8 Ammonia .25 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 10 Phosphate 0.1 Temp: 29.3 Topped up evaporated water with salt mix to push sg to 1.025
-
No chemicals used except probidio startup and a 20lb bag of Caribsea live sand (Hawaiian black). Salt mix (Skimz pur reef salt) is with declorinated tap water (used prime for declorination).
-
Finally got around to start cycling the tank. Put in caribsea live sand and the scape from iwarna today. Also added in a MP and prodibio startup to start cycling the tank today. Did some test and here are the parameters: Salinity 1.024 Ph 7.8 Ammonia 1.5 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Phosphate 0.1 Are the readings consistent with a startup tank? Also find it weird that the ph is so low.

Fiddled with the inlet and pushed it all the way up and it's now about 1.5in off the surface. Realised that it was probably designed like that so that when WC is done, the skimmer is not starved of water. Also prevents the skimmer from running dry in the event the water level drops by 2-3inches.

Yes it is indeed addictive and obsessive. I find myself planning for next tank even before this one is up. Anyhow, can I get some advise on the skimmer inlet and outlet setup? Below is a pic of the current layout. On the left is the outlet pipe which I put the sponge provided on the outlet to prevent bubbles (figured the sponge goes there as I couldn't find where else to fit it and its a perfect fit for the outlet) For the inlet on the right, I understand that it's better to be skimming the surface but the provided pipe does not allow the fish protector to reach the surface. Is there any other solution besides sawing off the inlet pipe to a shorter length? I've tried removing the whole inlet pipe but it feels like it's glued to the elbow joint. I've seen setups on you tube that shows a different type of fish protector covering the inlet pipe that can reach the surface. Any idea where I can get those?

Thanks but I'm moving in 6 months and too much hassle moving a bigger tank with sump. Currently have a 5x2.5x2.5 with sump and a 3x2x2 fw at home. Just decommed a 2x1.5 also to make space for the cube. So another big tank is out of the question for now. Plan is to keep a fgt for my fw and get a 3x2 reef tank for living room. This current tank is to get my feet wet in the marine environment. On the other hand, if someone wants to take over my 3x2 L340 pleco tank (proven breeding colony) with 2xL46, I'll surely give the bigger tank a serious thought. LOL Ya. Regular wc will have to do for the time being.

Thanks for the heads up. Originally planned for FOWLR but as I got more poisoned, decided to include hardy corals. Guess I might have to revert back to plan A and go FOWLR again.
-
Currently looking at 5-8 small fishes/inverts and simple hardy corals as I have no plans to get a rodi system or chiller for the cube.
-
Yes, that's the plan. This is a 'test water' setup if I want to put more time and investment into a 3x2x2 in the next 6 months. Anyway, plan is to collect my rock scape from Iwarna this weekend and start cycling. Then it's another 2-3 week wait for the tank to be ready to accept some livestock.

After 4 weeks of preping and research, I've finally gotten down to setting up the tank and equipment. A good one week was spent 4 coating the WI stand with 4 coats of anti rust paint and apply nano sealant over it as well as 6 coat varnish on the wood placed on the stand. Last evening, cleaned up the tank and filled it up with aged tap water to test if tank was leaking and also setup the Fluval C4 HOB and wave maker. Today, setup both the RO BH1000 skimmer and light set. I know the wires are extremely messy but planning to move in a couple of months time so unlikely to tidy it up for the time being. Due to the two HOB, I can't position the light set in the middle and might have to supplement with another Par38 Unfortunately, cycling hasn't started and I'm running fw in it for the time being. Any recommendations for placement of equipment to tidy the setup will be much appreciated. Tank Specs: 45cm cube (approximately 90L) Skimmer: Reef Octopus BH1000 Filter: Fluval C4 Wavemaker: Tunze 6045 Lightset: Maxspect Glaive 30cm

It's been 3 weeks since the tank arrived and I've used the time to get all the gear and equipment ready. Finally going to start cycling the coming weekend. For the cycling process, I'm planning to start with NSW and gradually dilute the NSW with salt mix during WC. Gonna help kick start the cycle using prodibio start up and Caribsea live sand. Equipment as follows: Tank size- 45cm cube Mechanical filtration- Fluval C4 HOB Skimmer- Reef Octopus BH1000 HOB Substrate- Caribsea live sand (Hawaiian Black) - no stock of Fiji pink Wavemaker- Tunze Nanostream 6045 Salt mix- Skimz Pur Reef Lighting- Maxspect Glaive 30cm Aquaroche scape for biological filtration Planning to keep some simple/hardy corals (recommendations?) and 5-8 small fishes/invertebrates Won't have access to rodi water yet and no plans on getting a chiller. Any feedback/recommendations greatly appreciated.

Thank and stand collected

Bro, I have a 2x1.5x1.5 tank with stand to give away. Tanks is 6mm and used for FW previously. Just decomm today. Tank condition 8/10 (tank has bracing on the width edges) WI Stand condition 5/10 has rust but not sure if the rust is superficial and on the surface only Collection from Pasir Ris

I've got another question, would it be better to get 2x Tunze 6015 (1800L/hr) wavemakers or 1x Tunze 6025 (2500L/hr)/6045? With 2 WM, it will be easier to position the flows with maximum coverage without causing the tank to be a washing machine whereas getting a bigger WM will only allow a single flow direction. The cons would be 2 WM takes up more real estate in the already small nano tank. TIA.

Managed to check if its hailea? Thanks
-
While sourcing for the BH1000, i noticed that there was a shop showing the skimmer as powered by Hailea OTP pump while another describes the pump as a Octopus OTP 1000 needle wheel pump. My question are they both the same pumps? The one that mentions Hailea is $10 cheaper. I'm just wondering if the pump was changed to lower the cost or the octopus OTP 1000 needle wheel is actually a Hailea OEM pump..

Thanks. Will check out c328 or seaview since it's closer for the lighset. Just Artinic will do right?

Update: Tank is finally here. And I have narrowed down to the following setup: Tank size: 45cm cube (8mm) Mechanical filtration: Fluval C4 HOB Protein Skimmer: RO BH1000 HOB Wave maker: Tunze Nanostream 6025 Substrate: Caribsea Arag - Fiji Pink Salt mix: Skimz Pur Reef Test kits: Salifert (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate) Lighting: haven't decided (budget $200, any recommendations? Have to be LEDs though) Live Rocks: probably from one of the Pasir Ris LFS (planning to get an Aquaroche scape from Iwarna so how much LR should I get now in order not to clutter the tank up?) Any comments/feedback much appreciated. Now tearing down one of my FW tank to use back the stand and also collecting gear. Hopefully, can start cycling by this weekend. If anyone is planning to decomm, and have some of the stuff listed above to clear, please let me know. Also looking for a refractometer
-
Thanks. There's a protein skimmer there. Reef Octopus bh1000 hob.

Not going for sump for this tank as I need to move it in about 6 months time. This project is for me to get aquainted to marine and my next tank will be a 3x2x1.5 with sump. Will get a aquaroche scape from Iwarna and also supplement it with some LR.

Hi All, Would like some advise and recommendations from the brothers and sisters here. Firstly, I've had experience in FW and would like to take the plunge and try marine. I've already ordered my 45cm (90L) cube and planning for the equipment. Tank is going to be FOWLR with the possibility of easy corals in the future (no intention to run a chiller). Looking at running a Fluval C4 HOB (rated at 1000L/H) and a RO BH1000 HOB skimmer. Due to the size of the tank, was wondering if I still need to run a wave maker. Will also get a set of led lights for the tank. Anything else I might have missed out? Also, to kick start the tank for cycling, any recommendations for what quick start bacteria to dose? Thanks in advance
