  1. so assuming now I have very little rowas running in FR and my PO4 is not detectable by salifert test kit, I do not have to change out the rowas till the moment PO4 is detectable? btw I do have a very healthy bunch of chaeto growing that needs at least bi-weekly harvesting. I am assuming that my chaeto is extremely hardworking by their growth.
  2. dun worry, your fears r unnecessary, mine is fat and happy till u can almost see it grinning ear to ear, in this case, fin to fin
  3. by right in the sea, the nutrients are very low, however at night the sea is full of food for the corals. in our closed system tank, as long as you have ample food for the corals, it is good to have ULNS (Ultra low nutrients system). if you strip the water too clean and not providing food for your corals, your sps will likely to suffer. Thus, you have to make a balance, water too clean and lacking in food for sps, not good. water not clean with high nutrients, sps will not be happy too.
  4. your return pump will do the job well, you may have more pods in your DT than you can imagine, some can be very small, most are hiding in rocks in the day time. do you have a dragonet that requires pods for feeding? if so, monitor its health and body size for a while. if it is fat and healthy, chances are it has more than enough pods for consumption.
  5. Hi, as suggested by the thread title, what is the recommended length of time in which one should change out the rowas and activated carbon?
  6. It's a hobby, dun stress yourself over it, just enjoy it and not too obsessed with numbers
  7. check your calcium, if your MG is low, your calcium will be low too
  8. undigested food will rot inside the anemone and inevitably kills it. Thus, feeding sparingly if you must.
  9. A skimmer is to skim the water, nothing more than that, its wiser to put the bio pellets in a purpose built FR, more gains it this manner
  10. Mg gets depleted like as of other elements. U will notice your calcium going down and unable to stay more than 400 after 24 hrs
  11. If Mg is low, it affects your calcium, you will realize your calcium cannot go beyond 400. Basically it's not about individual elements, it's a balance of everything and stability is the key to success, dun be too particular about certain figures.
  12. would be prudent to retest the water with another test kit or get someone else to test your water. However, I felt that your sps are diminishing the dKh levels, you can try to take the daily intake amounts by making notes and data. Thereafter, once you see a trend, you would be able to dose daily or a few days to stabilize the dKH.
  13. once you have decent growth, do remember to clean the scrubber every week to make it effective.
  14. I second the location Liquidnoise mentioned, you can easily provision an aircon compressor for chilling purposes in your aircon ledge or service yard, considering the ease of pipes laying. plan well, less headaches
  15. try again, this time round, not too close to aiptasia, they are like LPS, retract when approached. Do you like someone poking something in your face? same concept. Good luck
  16. Both sold to nice fellow reefers, mods kindly close this thread, thanks.
  17. seahorses are only for the hands of the very experienced, please do not try to keep seahorses considering you r fairly new to marine life keeping
  18. new lights are coming tomorrow, able to decomm lights within days. One set left
  19. one needs plenty of light plus water flow
  20. Did u frag it straight in the center thru the mouth?
  21. Just prawn in Bette box will work just fine
  22. Pls take caution that this fish although is hardworking, it ain't reef safe. Once job completed, pass to someone else who needs it's services
