i wouldnt be concern if your PH fluctuates between 7.8 - 7.83. its a tad low but very stable. I would just monitor and leave it. however, do buffer it up if it goes below 7.8
Y r u afraid of a big tank? The more water one has, the easier it is to maintain a stable water perimeter.
