  1. Anyways perhaps I've begun to doubt my live rock. Could it be because that my rocks are not live? Thus contributing to my clownfish behaviour I purchases it from qian hu fish farm for my old tank... then when the tank crashed I removed them and soaked them in freshwater and then dried them in the sun for about a week... Before placing them in my new tank at the start of the cycle so all the organisms on the rock have died. now that the cycle is over I can see some organisms started growing on it and nitrifying bacteria can also grow on them right? These rocks can be live once more?
  2. ok latest update... Woke up this morning to finds clownfish sleeping, at the surface!! srsly thought it was dead. then I switched on my led lights and it woke up and started to swim (only at the surface!) my live rocks are at the bottom and there's plenty of space to swim...could be lack of oxygen but I doubt so because there's a flow at the surface and the water isn't still so I believe that oxygen is able to enter through the surface. And besides my one clownfish is the only livestock I have. Will take a picture in the evening when I get back from work to show you guys. thanks a lot! really hope this fish survives.
  3. Yes mine is a percula... but i tought clown fishes are supposed to be hardy? hmm what should I do? I'd this clownfish dies( which I think is going to) Should I do a 10% water change, then add 2 damsels in the tank and wait till the tank matures then remove the damsels and put in clowns? But my tank has finished it's cycle with ammonia and nitrite zero and nitrate just above zero... Why is it that the water quality is still bad? What could be wrong with it? salinity is maintained at .21-.22
  4. Could have been. I bought it from ah beng shop... I'm not sure if it has an itch or not... Seems like there is a few white blotches on the white stipe near to the head... but most of the clownfish in that shop are like that.
  5. Hi this is my 3rd attempt at a marine tank and its not working... my new clownfish is dying. So I have this 10g oceanspace nano My filter is an iOS with ceramic biorings, and active carbon and wool. With an dymax iq skimmer. I also use got live rock in my tank The tank has been running for 25days..using sea water from irwana. For the first week, I cycled the tank with a damsel then I removed the damsel cuz it's bad and cruel and all that. I also used fish food to kick start the cycle. Tested my nitrite after the first week and it was high, did a 10%water change and left it to cycle. today after 3 weeks, tested again. Ammonia is zero, nitrite now is zero. And nitrate is hovering just above zero. so the cycling is complete right? so today I added a my first ls, a juvenile clownfish using the proper acclamation process and now after 5 hours, it seems to be just swimming near to the surface, active, but just keeping to the surface. seems like its gonna meet the same fate as all my other past attempts. My salinity is .22 and i use 100%distilled water from NTUC for daily evaporation top off. I don't have any metallic objects in my tank. The flow is my tank is good cuz I'm using a adequate submersible filter in my IOS, causing some waves at the surface. so what could I have possibly done wrong? ;(
  6. Thx Patrick! However managed to get the damsel out and passed it to my neighbour. Now my tank has no life stock in it and I did dose my bacteria "cycle stability" from the LFS. Now just continuing with the cycle and hoping for the best:) thx again!
  7. thx for the advice:) I know I tried countless times to remove my damsel but its impossible. it keeps hiding in the rocks the moment the net is in the tank. gna try to remove it tomorrow. thx again. Im gonna test for nitrite after 35 days and hopefully the levels drop...
  8. I have been cycling my 34l oceanspace nano with an iOS filtration and liverock for 12 days with a damsel (which I now know I shouldn't) So today after 12 days, I tested my No2 nitrite and its sky high! More than 3mg/l !!!! I did refer to some charts and graphs which show that its normal for nitrites to be high during the 12th day after which will start to drop at the 30th day. What should I do? Should I leave it to continue the cycle? Or should I do a 50%water change. (which will slow down the cycle) ?? I've tried countless times to remove my damsel but can't . anyways it's behaving normal. what should I do? Thx
  9. Hi guys, got a question to ask... So I have a 34L oceanspace nano as I'm very into nano tanks. My tank has been cycling for 12 days so far... my mistake was to put a damsel in the tank during cycling as the LFS told me to do it (which I know now I shouldn't) and I can't remove it although I tried countless times. anyways, so after the 12 days of cycling, I tested the Nitrite No2 levels and it was SKY HIGH!!!! 3mg!!! I didn't test for ammonia I'm using an iOS filtration with bio ceramic rings and live rock. I have refered to several charts which indicated that nitrite levels at 2 weeks of cycling indeed should be high before it starts to drop after 30 days. What should I do? Should I just continue the cycling process for 30-40 days and test again? Or should I do a water change?(which will actually slow down the cycling process) ?? Ps: my damsel seems fine. I feed it once in two days with very little food . Please help thx:)
  10. For a 10g nano I recommend the ocean space 34l. Dymax iq 5 is way too small. the back compartments are really neat and organised and you're able to fit a IQ protein skimmer behind. They're selling it for 100 at irwana. Gd luck
  11. Hi just asking... I have a few prices of live rock from my previous saltwater tank. I then removed them upon throwing the tank away due to cracks. the rocks have been soaked in freshwater, and I believe all living organisms in it has dies. the rocks have been dried for about a week under the sun, this no longer making it "live" . So today I got a new tank with saltwater purchased from my LFS. can I use year rocks for my new tank. will bacteria be able to grow on it again, making it live once more? Thx
  12. Hi guys, I'm looking to purchase a 10g nano tank . was just wondering... Beside the live rock and live sand.. What filtration type do you guys recommend? Will a HOB filter be sufficient? An IOS? where to get them? Thx:)
  13. Tha is for all the advice guys. anyways, the iOS system at the back of my china made tank has a crack and had to clear my whole tank... will be looking into new tanks soon thx:)
  14. Sorry haven't made question 2) clear 2) now since I have just put in freshwater today, can I add Red Sea salt tomorrow to my existing fresh water in the tank... Or must I throw away the fresh water in my tank and mix new freshwater with the salt? Thx:)
  15. Hi guys, in need of some help. I just restarted my saltwater tank system. it's a nano tank 10g.. With live rock. Cleared all the water out and put in new substrate and changed the filter system So today, I placed my old live rocks (previuosly used in a saltwater tank) into the tank and filled the tank with freshwater and then let the system run. I will be getting my Red Sea salt tomorrow to add to the tank. My question is.. 1) will the bacteria from my live rock die being exposed to freshwater for more than 24 hours 2) is it ok to add red sea salt to the freshwater tomorrow when I hate it? Or must I clear out all the water and start again 3) do you guys recommend purchasing saltwater from the LFS... Or purchasing using Red Sea salt? Thx:)
  16. Hi guys, I have a problem with one of my ocellatis clown fish and my new doctor shrimp... bought them both on the same day from Ah beng shop. the uncle told me that the shrimp eats unwanted stuff and helps to cure fishes from itch So today when I went home, places both into my 10g nano tank( which has live rocks), The shrimp keeps on trying to chase the clownfish and from the looks of it, almost like it wants to eat the clownfish... and the clownfish seems like its frantically trying to get away from the shrimp at some point Is this causing too much stress to my clown? Should I remove the shrimp!?!?
  17. Fellow reefers... Would like to get your opinion on which is the best mechanical, chemical and biological media used in your filters; be it a sump, overflow sump or a simple HOB filter. ...
  18. Hi guys, I have a 10 g nano with a damsel and zoas. I need a clean up crew roger rid of algae and other unwanted stuff. Also find them fascinating and really want to keep them. what kinda crew you guys recommend?
  19. Hi guys, I'm wondering how to DIY a overflow sump to the back of an empty nano tank. Tank is about 15 gallons, rather tall. completely clueless lol
  20. Hi guys, any cleanup crew to recommend for my 10g nano with zoas. must be reef safe:) thx
  21. Hmmm guess I have to go to C328 tomorrow to get a dymax IQ skimmer( the only on to fit my tank) thanks for the advise:)
  22. Yep gg to get a wave maker tomorrow at pasir ris farm. if I can be successful at this, I'll probably upgrade my tank in a year or so, looking for a bigger tank with a bigger overflow sump.
  23. Thanks mate! Anyways mine is a 10g nano rather tall, not sure what's the exact length. gg to get a water change done since I've just added these corals. aqua star is rather near my house and a 2 litre bottle of saltwater cost a dollar. any other bottled chemicals you think I should add?
