Budget Pico/Nano tank, possible?

Great set-up! any mechanical filtration in the hob? Sponges woo ect? Remember to clean these frequently because they trap nutrients. you can take a look at ah being, they've got a great nano running on hob filter only, more than enough flow. -
Cycling of your new live Rocks
Marine_fanaticz replied to Harlequinmania's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
ive got another question, my tank is not in the 2nd week of cycling and i noticed that some of the coraline algae on my rocks are disappearing... probably because i am now switching off all my lights and keeping the tank dark to prevent a diatom outbreak. My question is, can i start dosing coraline algae additives (purple tech, coraline gro ect) during the cycle? or must i wait for the cycle to end before introducing these additives? -

Keeping nitrates low on a simpless nano
Marine_fanaticz replied to Marine_fanaticz's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Anyways for systems running on IOS i use spongr as a mechanical filter ... I heard that if the sponge is not cleaned, will become nitrate factory and cause algae .. How often do I have to clean the sponge? can wash with tap water? Thx -

Wc is for nitrates... how to reduce phosphates? -
Hi guys.... I've for a 34L nano running in iOS, just restarted and now gg through cycling again.. In order to keep nitrates and phosphates low, besides weekly wc, I was thinking of getting a clear HOB filter with two compartments... one will have Cheetos and the other, an algea scrubber...there will be a separate led light which is less than 10000k focusing at theHOB filter. I presume that inside the hob compartments, there should be enough flow to grow Cheetos and the algea will automatically grow in the scrubber. anyone has any thoughts on this? need advise. thanks:)

Cycling of your new live Rocks
Marine_fanaticz replied to Harlequinmania's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I purchased my live rocks about 4 months ago, dipped them in fresh water and dried them for a week and put it in my new nano ios tank to cycle. I had tested my ammonia went up at first, then nitrites were high. then finally both dropped to zero and nitrates went up. wc. total it took about 4 weeks. so cycle is complete. I added clownfish and have been very healthy since.. water change 10% every week.. 4 months have passes and my rocks still white! worst of all I'm having a sudden diatom attack.. my rocks still very white no form of algae growing. As what some other reefers have advised me, seems a bit wierd. anyone knows why? -
No sand for Marine Tank ??
Marine_fanaticz replied to Gideon's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
hi guys i have a OF34l nano with ios... using a sand bed.. but currently regret it because sand storm and when diatoms/algae grow on the sand bed very hard to remove. Anyway now since i wanna decom my tank and rescape it, im considering using bare bottom. I think that the live rocks will be sufficient to host the beneficial bacteria right? what are the drawbacks of going bare bottom? please advise. dont want to make a choice that ill regret. cheers:) -
Need advise on tank equipment setup.

im not an expert but i really think you should get a sump..Im using a nano and went sumpless. So many problems you can solve easily if you have a sump. -
