Yeah bro! that's what killed it... any advice on how to prevent it? was beginning to think something was wrong with my tank..?

both my clownfish died today ... tested water perimeter... all ok. probably because I didn't acclaim it well. I bought it 2days ago and today, it had white stuff and patches all over its body before it died..my peppermint shrimp however, is still doing good..

Yup it's the starpet satellite breeder box I got it at c328 but the last one....but I saw still a few left at equaempire(opposite ah beng)... must hang on the side, And only the 1.2 l one fits the ofnano3:)

My clown that I got from ah beng still isn't eating.. I assumed that its pallet trained when I bought it. didn't ask. I normally take a small pallet and rub them untill it's crushed but the clown still not eating for two days.. anyone knows why?

Hey guys.... its been a very long while since i posted on this thread. I have since decom my whole tank due to it being overun with with hair algae and diatom and cyno. so, i decided to make the following changes this time round. aim: to maintain a simple nano with very low nitrates and phosphates levels. I am now only using 100% pure distilled water from ntuc for evap top-up and a 10% weekly water change. I have also removed all my sand and decided to go bare scape to prevent trapped nutrients. My tank has just completed its cycle 2 days ago. Salinity is at 1.24.... Inside the IOS there is only wool in one chamber and ceramic bio rings in the other. Have changed the stock LED to the EVO12 clip on 3Wled x 6. ( 4 white and two actinic blue.) Looks exactly the same as the beamswork ultra bright.. BUt its really bright.. like when i adjusted the angle of the led, it lighted up my room! filtration system is an IOS with 2 return pumps..... one is 480l/h flowing straight back into the DP and the other is about 150l/h(quite weak) flowing into a hang on side fuge. Just added the chaetos onto the fuge today. The fuge is a bit of a concern because the flow inside the fuge is ok... the chaeto ball seems to be moving around slowly and "tumbling" but the flow back into the tank is more like a small stream. I have difficulty increasing the flow due to the tight space in the ios for a bigger pump. Theres also a 3w led spotlight shining directly at the fuge.... dunno what colour temperature but recommended by ah beng for chaetos..should be less than 10000k ( slight warm yellowish tinge) How long should i switch on this led a day ? ? anyone? side view of the tank. Tank currently only have one tiny normal clwonfish and one rather large peppermint shrimp...gonna be stocking up slowly. still looks very bare gonna add zoas, and gonio. I would really like a RBTA or any other anemone if i can figure out how to get rid of the wavemaker while keeping a moderate flow. hope to keep you guys updated...comments are welcome:)

are those live rocks..? What is the length and width dimension? -
I think better if you buy the tank and DIY the ios

Abit confused.. Cos some say colour temperature above 10000k (cool white light) is better for chaetos... others say 6000k warm/yellowish light better. so which is it? I went to irwana and got chaeto, they are using a warm light definitely below 10000k in their sump for chaetos. Please advise:)

Hi guys, I've got a questin- my tank is a nano running on an iOS.... in one of the compartments, there's ceramic biorings for biological filtration.. Must these be kept in dark areas? I've recently removed the black sticky paper covering my iOS as I was thinking of adding in a light to grow chaeto. now, moderate amounts of sunlight can enter the iOS. Will the beneficial bacteria hosting on these ceramic biorings die upon being exposed to sunlight? Also, I've read that over time, these ceramic biorings may trap nutrients so better if I remove them slowly.. My 9gallon nano contains 3kg live rocks... so will the live rocks alone be able to host beneficial bacteria? Or must I also have the biorings? My tank still cycling (3rd week)... Thanks hope for replies:)

zoas and other easy corals for newbies.
Marine_fanaticz replied to Marine_fanaticz's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Haha thanks for the replies guys currently I have given my zoas away, rescaped restarted my tank and now in 3rd week cycle. but I don't think ill feed my zoas anymore, just gonna rely on the food I feed the fish and lighting.. trying to keep nutrients low Cheers:) -
Yeap I second hob filter... try getting a bigger one of you can like aquaclear ect.. so you can also use it as a fuge, flow will be enough, don't need extra powerheads. because I think later when you encounter high n03 p04 ect.. then using a hob/fuge will come in handy.

Algae hair on sand bed
Marine_fanaticz replied to gavintan87's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I've tried blocking all lights from entering my previous tank for 3 days and the algae dropped a lot... however, I think the main problems lies in high nitrates and phosphates... cos if you wanna get corals you're gonna have to switch on the lights nonetheless and algae will slowly reappear again... now having a hard time deciding should I place chaeto in my iOS or get a hob filter and place them inside.... -
Hmm interesting that you're growing cheato in a hob... can chaeto survive in a hob that isn't clear acrylic ?.. I'm thinking of doing the same, any advice? Thx
-
Hey bro looks really good. I got a question that I really never fully understood. I don't see any liverock in the tank, so where how does the biological filtration occur? You using biohome in your hob? haha pardon my newbieness. I tought need at least liverocks or smth for the bacteria to host?

Budget Pico/Nano tank, possible?
Marine_fanaticz replied to Evolutionz's topic in Members Tank & Specs
Hey bro I'm also not sure why its worse.. but if you want to use the iq skimmer you have to really carefully adjust the height and airflow into the skimmer.... I think the skimmer can act as a mechanical filtration, sometimes I can see small prices of dirt collected in the cup -

Marine_fanaticz replied to Evolutionz's topic in Members Tank & Specs
yeap.. I had 2 clowns in a 34l nano and feed them daily.. I could tell nitrates were very high because of algae problems but still no brown skimmate... just pale yellowish water. however it can help if there's been a disaster haha my maid overfed the tank while I was away and when I got back to sg there was a whole cup of kopi haha.. But if you're thinking of using it as a day to day filtration not so efficient -

hmm I've used the dymax iq skimmer before and change to sanders2 woodblock... still not efficient leh.. very rarely get to skim anything out. -
