I usually don't like to link return pump to chiller. It's better a stand alone pump imo. Also too much bend on pvc pipe actually slow down the flow. Suggest U try to measure the flow of your chiller from the water outlet so that U know if you are having a correct flow rate. Efficiency of chiller is dependent on using the correct flow rate. Hi guys, I chance upon a thread in zeovit.com and think that it would be good to share with people like myself who can never make it with calculation. All you have to do is get a 1L measuring cup and time the amount of time it takes to collect 1L of water from your chiller or reactor water outlet. open up the attached excel file and fill in the seconds taken in the blue coloum. Like I mention i chance upon the thread and premission has been granted from the created Matt84. Bro yes I brought this sps however I don't have a better choice. Deep water or not I don't know but I did overhead people saying its ssc! Anyway it's a long story if bros here want to know. If not just skip this post. in due respect to the forum and the reefing community I will not mention names Why did I buy that sps? I don't have a better choice. It all happen during one of the aussie shipment where a cherry blossom sps was brought in by them. this pic was send to me and it got me excited. I forward to my friend and he also like it very much and ask me to help him reserve at the price of $388 However when the shipment arrival actual color of the sps was totally off from the pic. But as a verbal agreement a reserve is a reserve. And as reefers, we all know pic and actual animal may not be the same due to shipment stress etc. There will always be a certain degree of differences that we have to accept before committing to Lfs to do reservation. So paid and bring the cherry home. Eventually it was brought back to them as the color was way too different to be consider acceptable imo. And I have to be fair to my friend who trusted me. He(LFS) was gentleman enough to accept it but tell me he won't be able to give me a refund but promise that the next shipment he will return me one. Which was fine to me as I didn't want to make things difficult. And he also told me that the next aussie shipment there will be cherry blossom. So I agreed and wait. In between the wait for his aussie shipment, I visit him a couple of times to continue supporting his indo sps shipment and during one of the conversation he confidently tell me his next aussie shipment will have cherry blossom that looks EXACTLY like the pic he send out.. So came this shipment, nothing was mentioned until I ask him where is the cherry blossom? Answer?? A simple never come in. I wasn't sure if he was really very busy or... but I felt like I was treated as if I'm transparent. MAYBE only Ah... my guess at that point $388 already in pocket Nmind him. Attend to others to take do more sales first!! I have to go offer him a solution which is in exchange for a SSC as I see no point in delaying anymore. So I asked him for the $388 that was already paid months ago which ssc can be use for a replacement. After some searching he show me this I was totally dumb folded. I really felt I was being treated like a trashed. The money I paid was hell note I assume. Not acceptable at all, I ask him for the price of a bigger pcs which is the pic firestarter posted for $488. So I top up $100 more to get this bigger pcs of ssc. While this was settle, I wasn't happy how he treated me as "friend" or as a customer. So I decided to give him a farewell purchase. 1 pcs of rainbow natsuta plus 2 set of hydra. To this LFS i hope u are reading this, this is so much for treating me the way U think its right. It doesn't matter, you are not the only one that can bring in sps. I can bring my money elsewhere or I can also bring the money to other hobby. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi bro may I ask what do u eventually want to keep in your "ocean". Because I believe that whatever u want to keep in future it is better to build a good foundation from the beginning. Doesn't really matter if u are new to the salty hobby cos there's a lot of kind and experience bros/sis to help and advise you In this hobby there are just too many different school of taught. One works one but may not work for another. I would say due to the way we "play" with our tank. U will eventually find a method which suit and work well for you. Imo there are different level of skills/knowledge from easiest to hardest *yawn* but I don't care I'm just going to write it down of course like I say this is my view. U can choose to or not to follow Fish only with liverocks- ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate as low as U can maintain. Once all good congratulations. U have been promoted to adding softies. Softies- same as above got to put in more effort to keep nitrate low. All doing well? If yes well done. U master another level of knowledge. Level up! Lps- same as softies but U will need to maintain your mag ca and kh. Good extension? Colors maintaining or better than U see in LFS? If yes to all good job! Mix reef all of the above must do with extra care especially mg ca and kh has to be maintain at or within a specific range. Softies and Lps showing good color? Opening up nice and huge? Superb job! For me during this phase of my life as a reefer I started to get sick and tired of Lps already and before I know most of my Lps has either been sold or given away and give more rooms for sps. Sps dominated/only!!! tedious! Mg ca kh must be kept consistent! Nutrient has to be kept as low as possible. Levels that Lps and softies can accept sps won't be able to. They turn brown in mild case, turn white(die already loh) in some. Till now I still get parameter swing every now and then. Till now I will still encounter issues that I can't find the root cause. Anyway with a lot of work but you MAY be rewarded for your hard work, dedication and care if it's done properly and correctly. This phase is the phase I'm in and i would say I'm still exploring a better method to bring out the best a sps dominated tank can display. Sps does sounds challenging but there are a minority of reefers who kept them well without so much work. Hats off to these group of reefers. I just can never achieve that. Like it or not some things in this hobby U just can't rush or it keeps burning your pockets again and again Good luck and feel free to ask and ask and ask. No question is stupid question.
