Ya I agree with fuel, let nature take its course. But ultimately, you need to find out what causes the dead portion at the bottom of the bn. Like what yellowtang mention, high possibility it might be flow.

Is that a biopellet? Can the biopellet outlet goes back into the skimmer inlet?
My theory is your skimmer looks like the only equipment supplying oxygen. On the same compartment if you have a biopellet producing bacteria & going into the return pump area, its going to consume most of the O2 molecules for your return flow. Unless your main tank have very aggressive turbulence on the water surface to provide oxygen, your live stocks will suffocate.

Yup, maintain delta temp of less than 10 degC or custom make 18mm thick acrylic tank which I personally think its going to look kinda funny plus it cost a bomb.
