Triggerfish triggering toxic corals?
kakak99 replied to PaulPaul01's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Trigger fish introduce as first fish to tank would be the last fish. Any fish you putting in will be killed by it as an intruder. For smaller tank without sump actually cause more maintenance effort. And the margine for mistake is slimer, resulting in tank crash. Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk -

Triggerfish triggering toxic corals?
kakak99 replied to PaulPaul01's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Ya.. my crown trigger is super bad ass. If it cannot leave the 2 doctor shrimps, I might need to remove it when it grow bigger, or put my shrimps in sump. At least for now, it don't bite my other fish. My leopard wrasse like to poke him, but did not touch, action action. mm.. even if paly release toxin, is quickly filtered away ba. How big is your tank? Seem your Humu Picasso Trigger also aggressive type. But fish has personality. If lucky get a good one, unlucky get a bad ass. -
All longer mouth tang hunt for algae non-stop. Sis, what is your NO3? .. I just tested my tank today and found my > 50 mg/l

Triggerfish triggering toxic corals?
kakak99 replied to PaulPaul01's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
mm.. don't need to worry too much about coral releasing toxins. I have a 1 inch crown trigger in my tank. In it's first day in the main tank, fishes tail is in it menu. And all my corals, it will also bite a piece off. One week in the main tank already still try to get my doctor shrimps. Below yesterday photo, antenna stuck on it mouth whole day, serve it right. I check my 2 doctor shrimps, lost some of it antenna but body not harmed. Today the antenna at the trigger become thinner and gone. -

Friendly Reminder to Dip Corals
kakak99 replied to Blrs's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Flatworms is pest, but not usual from new coral shipment. They are usually migrated from infested tank. Bristleworms and fireworms can be cleaning crews, but can also cause problems as stated in their name. They are present in all life rocks. I don't like worms, I like pods. There are numbers of reef fishes that would prey on small worms. -

The green majano are quite nice, brown one not nice. Majano anemone is controllable, can keep if you want, at least they don't reproduce by spitting their larva into water. Many people are keeping anemone especially bubble tips. Aiptasia is no no, this one pest. Nowadays I try to avoid all these anemone, because some of my other coral are quite sensitive. Last keep is a sand anemone, it still run when not happy. But I still keep tube anemone and rock flower anemone. They don't run.

Yes, blue eye anthias, female. Hmm, usually female don't jaw fight. Your "lyretail Anthias" is male and challenge the female first. Anthias sex transform took quite some time. My start transforming more than 2 months already still haven't complete. My male anthias quite aggressive toward the 2 females. Every time keep chasing them around, but he don't bite them. All 3 about the same size.

Not better quality, coral price in Singapore mark up very high nowadays.

Ya.. the old couple selling $2 per snail. Snails are good for reef tank. You can also get fish like tang from farm, they are also very efficient in clearing algae.

I still have the yellow Leptastrea sp. Last time golden octopus carry many rare corals, but the shop closed. 5 Years ago, coral like golden torch is $25 per head, now bubbled to $80. Coral getting expensive and many species no more coming to Singapore. In other country, our so call uncommon coral are common to them.

Bro, aiptasia is deadly pest anemone. At adult stage like yours, can anytime start constantly release their larval into surrounding water. They sting other coral and kill them. They are highly adaptive, can do photosynthesis or catch food in water. Any part of their issue broken can grow into few more new aiptasia. Also when they sense danger, they release larval. If your whole tank (pipe, sump) already infected by aiptasia, you have to drain it and totally dry it for month, then start your tank over again. Watch residential evil? Aiptasia are the zombies

Royal Gramma - suitable for nano tank?
kakak99 replied to Evanboi's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Basslet type don't dash around in the tank. They as suitable for nano tank initially. However many fishes will slowly grow larger and not suitable for nano tank. My 3 feet tank currently have 3 bassletes (2 royal gamma and 1 black cap) and other fishes. I trained my bassletes take frozen food first then pallet, yes they eating both. My doctor wrasse also taking frozen food and pallet.
