anybody here knows how to make a i-box or overflow
Ian replied to five for fighting's topic in DIY Forum
I personally think that 2mm is way too thin. It's rather risky. Acrylic is very strong but it needs to be of a certain thickness for the appropriate project. The joining of a 2mm thick acrylic is not strong. The surface area to join is just too little. Just my opinion. -

Hi five for fighting, I'm Ian. I understand that you might find my I~Box too expensive, but have you actually checked the other siphon boxes in the market? It's an average of US$90.00 without postage. Locally another shop is selling at $169.00. The difference compared to all the other brands is that mine is silent and the flow is fast and no bubbles gets trap in the siphon tube. And at $121.50, I don't see how my I~Box is expensive. I've done allot of designs in the past and improved it allot. I did it from scratch and not copied wholesale. The amount of testing with different designs to ensure that it is right and every possible improvement was being made. Imagine the amount of time, money, petrol, tools and all I have to bare. Till this date I have gone over the 100th I~Box I've made and if you can see my first version and the one now, you would see the vast difference in every way. If you still feel that it is still expensive for you it's ok. Just wanted to let you know the amount of time, money and work I had to put into the design and production of my I~Box. Regards Ian -
So happen i have a distiller too. I do not use it for new set up or large water change. Water volume too large for my distiller to handel in a short period of time. I use it for top up only. So I use only 1 bucket a week to fill my top up container.

It's the same as macro.I got one macro CA exacally the same.

You should get 1 version with a cover all around or infront and the sides. Just to block the glare . After a while most people would get irritated with the glare from the MH. Just an idea.

Hi! There no one link that give you all the answers you want. You got to search in the web and look at many many many websites and see their "equipment" section. It's alot of work but you can gat alot of your answers from there. To start my first reef, I took 8 months of searching the web to get a system that I like and belive in. And yet I'm still finding better ideas. I got like 300 links in my Favorites for aquarium info. So start your quest and 'go search' my friend!

If the flow is fast enough, you do not need to siphon the air out of the U-tube at all. Whatever air gets in will be forced out. Sorry bro, but by increasing the overall height of your OFB should not slow the flow.

The pipe on the right is slightly bigger. the one on the left is not in use. I think. For kschew1498 case i don't think it will make a difference. I've seen your Overflow box before overseas. Sorry but thats the one with design flaw. It does not allow your siphon to work fast enough no matter what you do. Sorry.

Update on my plans: 6ft Coffin project cancelled... I got other plans at the moment. Will post pictures when completed. About 3 months time to complete. Stay tuned!

Plase don't waste your money trying to using arylic for MH lights. It will warp at the least. Worse case it will melt and burn everything. Wood or metal would be the best.

Alvy, the I~Box works fine but silly me forgot to drill a small hole at the end cap and there was irregular siphoning from the durso pipe at the back. Spoke to fuel on this already.

Good question. I've been reading up alot from Reef Central and those websites who uses Acrylic tanks. They either use a special cleaner or the credit card. I've been cleaning thick hard coraline algae in my refugium with the credit card and no scratches at all. I don't mind even is any of you want to come to my place to watch me clean the algae off No Magnet cleaner or razor blade allowed! even if it states used for acrylic i don't recomend it. If there are scratches, you can always remove it . unlike glass. Sorry i don't understand this part.

Sorry for late update. I've decided to still do the cloosed loop and If necessary I would get 2 streams later on. It will be easier to the the cloose loop first. I did check the cost to do an acrylic tank. For a 6 2 2 20mm thinckness Dama Plastic is charging around $2200. Well I can get it done myself much less . I'm still gonna have a mix reef as I've always liked it. At least now when I get my clams I get to see the true colors. 4ft plus of my cabinate is gonna be dedicated to my filtering equipment. All pumps will be external and so will my "NEW" Protien skimmer. My chiller will be in my cabinate. The back will be open and the door will be lovered. The space behind the tank is about 6". I will not have a chiller case and the heat exchanger will be above the sump, away from the heat. Tempreture controller will be inbuilt in the cabinate and and the sensor will be placed in the sump. Well these are just some of the ideas I have so far.

Good job Tanggy, cannot wait to see it action!
-
Streams it is then. I'm getting mix reviews on the electronic type. Some say good, others say waste of money. Blenny what size tank you gonna get?
-
Looks like the idea of the closed loop is fading a way....
-
Thx Ca reef. Maybe if I buy 4 tunzy can get discount from edmund! Blenny, I would be using only the Y potion where it splits into 2 and the ends only.
-
CalciumReef, you got a very good point there! I would save on buying 6 bulk heads, 6 loclines and also electricity wise. But Tunze rather high cost. I would need like 4 right?
-
This is gonna be a very slow setup as I want it to be done right the first time. hopfully Hopfully the 2 MD55 I ordered. 1 for return and skimmer and the other will be a dedicated close loop.

Our sponsor Octopus Bay sell them. I was there yesterday.
