No la, not sad about the worms. I meant regret/sadness for the death of the fishes and corals that they chose to bring home.

I think lets be objective here. Pests are pests because they are harmful to other organisms and they live in abundance. Pests usually are hardy and tend to survive in the worst circumstances. Some fishes and many corals, are animals that we bring out of ocean, to keep in our fish tanks. Most of them can't take harsh environments and needs our care and good husbandry. And many of them are kinda endangered too. Therefore, we should have the correct attitude to treasure every of these animals. Pests wise, I think most will agree that we show that less concern right? Unless its about some religious beliefs, if not most reefers here are more concerned about conservation of marine life. I myself have caused the deaths of many fishes and corals in the past. I have learnt to do my homework not to treat any things that I bought lightly, and try to give them the best environment that can allow them to survive and stay happy.. I guess many reefers here have also caused the deaths of many other animals.. but the most important thing is that many of the reefers here treat every death with regret. They feel sad about the loss of every coral, every fish, even the $1 fishes. I think the main difference between most of the reefers n you is that they don't respond with comments like LOL. Be more receptive about the comments k? Maybe the harsh ones just ignore, but the ones which are good advices, accept them with humility.

Ati lightset are kinda pricey anywhere in e market.. It's quality for $$. The cheapest option is to wait for a 2nd hand set by our reefers here. Even then it will set u back a few hundred bucks, bit more for the newer version with e led display

Seems like its still e foaming effect similar to skimmer due to e excess protein. Perhaps it will go away after cycling.. Btw where did u get e rainbow piping.. Did it come with e tank?
-
Sorry to bring this up but thought thats a very good mindset to go with.. every fish is still a life right? Lets treat each fish purchase with responsibility k?

Yup me too. Almost.3 weeks for me n my valve is only 3/4 full!

Is it ok to put live stock in sump ?
alexcyf replied to woyeng**'s topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
The sand sifting fishes should help with e detritus instead. And it's good to keep them at Dsb cuz it will not disturb ur corals in DT.. Used to haf some of these fishes in my Dsb last time too -
It's e ammonia spike n part n parcel of cycling. Cloudiness will clear after a few days n u will noe that ammonia is zero n u r in e nitrite phase. For e smell perhaps an air freshener?

I believe that many reefers here are more concerned with the cabinet and a lack of a build in IOS to allow for a sump to be easily installed and contained. Think most people feel that the tank is not suitable for marine due to the lack in capability to satisfy the installation many of the equipments that allow u to maintain good water parameters. That's why u are having a headache about sump, about what skimmer to use etc etc. u wouldn't have to worry about these if ur tank was custom make for marine. IMHO The thickness of the glass is not the crucial part as it will no doubt will hold for now. Long run, we may not know for sure, but i have not heard of glass giving way. Although it seems like it will be a big disaster if it were to happen.. leakage though seems to be a common issue. anyway the thickness is just a scientific research ratio that most of us follow. What we are doing now is also to help find the best way for your tank to be sustainable. Which I think bro admiraltian has a good suggestion. I believe nobody would want to see new enthusiatic reefers throwing money down the drain with bad advice. So no hard feelings ya!

Agreed. With ur current cabinet I doubt a sump is economical. This seems to be a cheapest n viable option. Maintain this for a year n if u are still passionate about marine then... Automatically u will be thinking of an upgrade for better tank setup for more advance corals n fishes. If u need more questions answered, u can drop by pasir risk LFS tmr, I will be going there too. Can answer more of ur questions in person, if u r interested pm me

How do u catch it back every time? Or is it on leash? Lol -
Yes that is a positive.
-
Ur nitrite may be rising.. Not falling.. Even so, at 1ppm is potent enuff to kill many fishes.
-
To be honest, ur cabinet is really not marine friendly. Really sorry but think u should have done e homework before getting this tank set.. If u leave the sump on e floor, it's going to be very visible and eyesore. Anyway overflow box is likely to be hanged on the side of the tank. U would need to remove the top cover of ur tank to place it..

Wave too big will kill the fish?

A higher chance e corals might die instead, use w1. Think at low rates its still okie for 2 feet -
What will happen if i don't have a sump for 3 ft tank?
alexcyf replied to Dreams's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Look out for sales in pasar malam, sometimes u get really good deals at couple of hundreds -
Pumps are used for specific purposes. Chiller, Reactors, sump return pump etc. Skimmer usually comes with a pump.. Unless u need any of these, there is not need for random pumps.
-
Yes. Wavemakers are a must if u want to keep ur LPS. Ur overhead filter pump definitely won't be able to generate enough flow for your tank. For other equipments like fluidised reactors you will need a sump.. And most importantly a way to keep ur water chilled cuz turning on aircon 24/7 is going to be really expensive in the long run for u..

Then the bottle will be an eyesore to the tank.. How are u going to maintain the temperature if u are at work? Sleeping? Etc? The Erratic temperature fluctuate will not be good for the corals -
It's a miracle it survived > 30 minutes on the floor! would think that it has dried up and become salted fish.. whew! Is it still alive now?
-
Yeah corals can tahan through the cycling period and help ease ur wait for cycle to complete! Good timing to get corals now!alot of LFS having national day sales!

Hey dreams, think there's too many things that u are still confused about.. Check out all the articles at the home page.. Things like FAQ for setting up new tank, imptance of life rock, beginner guide to corals, keeping ur tank cool on hot day, testing water parameters, especially Tank Cycling 101.. And if possible to to one of the local fish shop. LFS and shoot all the questions u have at the uncles and regulars there.they will be more than happy to help!

Cycling is a crucial process for Any marine tank. Unless u wanna be cruel n dish out death for all e unlucky fishes u buy, go thru e process diligently
