Slayer213 replied to Harlequinmania's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I had one that ate my pellet-trained mandarin goby which was 1.5 bigger than the frog....managed to train him to eat chopped market prawn after 2 weeks... Sadly, he still prefer the big mandarin....- 39 replies

You can try Ah beng and Iwarna. sometime they do stock seahorses... i went the this morning, ah bengs got a pair in a bag, iwarna doest have any. And of course, CF... but call before u go sometime they have a tank full, next day its all gone... i guess they exported it...

Nice scape!

You can try frozen mysis or brine shrimp to get him eating first, then slowly introduce dried food. Can try adding a bit of garlic extract to entice feeding...

No prob! Just wondering... What kind of mantis u getting? Smasher or slasher? Size? I presume u are getting a peacock, which is a smasher. Ok, smashers can shatter glass if its big enough. So u might wanna lay a piece of acrylic or some cushion like a rubber mat at the bottom of ur tank before u put in ur substrate. As mantis are burrowers, ur substrate needs to be deep. However, we are using a relatively small tank so i doesnt make sense to have a sand bed filling up half the tank! Whats gonna happen is... In the wild mantis will burrow deep, and if they hit rocks, they will try to smash thru it... So its the bottom tank that we have to worry about. In my case, im keeping a three inch peacock, with a sandbed about 4 inches deep. Even then... I can hear my mantis trying to smash thru the tank bottom very frequently. But its a small mantis and i dun think he will be able to do any damge, i hope... Sorry bout the long story, just to let u know.. Have fun!

Try training him to take frozen, like brine or mysis..

Im using a nac 3.5, no noise issue....

Hi, i have a peacock mantis in a 1.5feet tank... Mantis are easy creatures to keep. Feeds on anything... Its a simple tank, just live rocks and coral chips as sand bed... U can add some little chunks of rocks and watch him use it to decorate his hm! Let me know ifu got any questions.

wow, never knew leathers come in this nice colors! -
BTW... if u really have to move an anemone, try blowing it with a wavemaker, eventually it will dislodge itself.... hope this helps
-
Do not plug out a anemone... you might damage its footing and kill it.... just leave it alone and it will find himself a comfortable spot to stay for good.... i have a bleached bta for 8mnths till now, it was white when i bought it, and most ppl tell me that it wont survive for more than a week..... now its doubled in size and eating all the time though its still white. in my experience, they are definitely hungry when they extend they tents like this... mine does it all the time... after feeding it a piece of small chopped market prawn, its will go back to its bubbly self.
-
Anemones will move till they find a comfortable spot and stay put as long as the parameters remains the same.... never try to force them on a spot, they will just die of stress...it should settle down after awhile

Get a refractometer in this case... u just need a few drops to test...

Budget and helfrichi? haha... bro, very ex leh helfrichi.... Btw bubblemagnus skimmers are awesome! i have one that gives me a big cup of kopi-o every week! nice setup!

Hi, 4mm tanks abit risky, try not adding too much liverock and sand. If you want u can add a piece of acrylic at the bottom of the tank so that the liverocks will not give too much pressure on the glass. Skimmer is always recommended, but for a tank this small i think u will be fine to go skimmerless. Anyway the nano skimmers one the market aint gonna do much, i have tried a few brands myself on my first 1.5ft tank... yes, do 10% weekly water change should be sufficient. Seachem matrix is fine, but do try to monitor parameters often so that u can act on any issues like ammonia spikes or high nitrate... Do keep in mind that the smaller the tank, the higher the tendency to fluctuate in terms of nitrate, temp and salinity... You might want to hold off the wavemaker. Setup the neccesary things first and see if the current generated by your hangon is sufficient or not.. then decide on the wavemaker. im worried the wavemaker might be too strong. Equipment wise, you can try to use existing ones, shld be ok for sof corals mushrooms zoas and fish. i think u shld do fine... i hope this helps. post a pic once u set up! good luck!

How to catch fish from the tank?
Slayer213 replied to tamama's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Which fish trap u using? I used one with the trap door one and it worked pretty good. Just need to hold the sliding door up with a piece of string and use a little container with live brine shrimp thats place all the way inside the trap. Sit from a distance and... Wait... Usually takes about 5 mins if u use live brine shrimp -
Good idea!

Blue slugs or sea fairy. i think... really nice.

Yes... i used to use epoxy as well... its just a mess, leaves a ammoniaish smell in your hands(ard your house) and it doesnt stick well. you actually have to smear, press, squeeze, hold and pray for that thing to stay. eventually your waters all cloudy from the epoxy... so i use IC-Gel now... works fast and neat and strong (thanks bro cedric for the reccommendation!).

Generally if a tang is eating well, it will recover on its own.... Once it stops eating... Goner. Try soaking seaweed in garlic next time, it works for me. Mu blue tang was covered in white spots, amazingly it survived aft a week of garlicsoakedseaweed!
