Cheers at the skimmate, they can be super smelly. Then u know ur tank is much cleaner. Not sure if rowas can bring nitrate down, but it's good at bringing phos down from readings. ^^ As for biopellets if u are using in future, add little bit first to cultivate the bacteria. For now water change 2 x per week is good while biosphere cultivate more bacteria colonies, also may expect nitrate increase? cheers!!

62 Lim Chu Kang farms affected by change in land use

I don't mind if it's a factory style where different story got different farm. Heee.. fully air con or well ventilated. Air con means more rent means pay more for hobby... (( -
i had 3 chromis back then, and a coral beauty angelfish. as for the problems you are going through, i went through as well. my 2cents are: 1) grab a real good skimmer, you will be shocked to see how dirty your water can get even after u changed water. 2) grab a reactor, i'm using only NPX biopellets, managed to keep nitrate and phosphate at 0ppm. just make sure it keeps stirring and don't clump together 3) i have some Matrix De-Nitrator in my ios sump that i think it helps with lowering nitrate too. 4) grab a chiller, it goes a long journey with you. can consider other forum for 2nd hand if there is no chiller on sales here. if budget allows, a new one is good. 5) i dose AZ-NO3 removal and goodbye-PO4 once or twice a week to keep the parameter in check. 6) clean ur equipment quarterly is a good habit but these doesn't guarantee 100% success. heheh. challenge of a nano tank. ;p but be contented that our usage of salt, water, electricity and purchase of equipment are kept nano sized too :X it took me several tries for 2years, until finally with the advice of colleague, decided to spend a little more to keep it more sustainable and see the corals and fishes at their best. Advice given: build on the facilities before putting residences. a good facility allows residences to live longer. my advice to top up: good facility needs maintenance, so check equipment for fault and cleaning, (my reactor caused some death, my hydrometer gave wrong reading) so yup, lets learn together from each other and reef on~

I agree with marine the in North... haha. -
My pods got depleted within 1 day by Chromis... for the light, I'm using 60w w wide angle lens. Have to go low to balance algae and coral needs. No sps so doesn't matter.

Thank you Bros (pardon me if there is any sis), it's these kind of encouragement that lift the reefing passion up. Hee. Many thanks!

Finally, I believe things has stabilized. Went through many unfortunate events, 1) brown jelly from one shipment, 2) biopellets clumping leading to hydrogen sulfide, 3) inaccurate hydrometer leading to super high salinity (didn't notice until measurement of mg and cal went very high) 4) air pump issue leading to death of 6 sexy shrimps 5) sold some critters to save them first 6) lost 2 firefish and 1 six liner wrasse during full moon, all 3 decided to jump. (Different tank)(read and hear from ppl that fishes tend to jump/swim upwards during full moon due to gravitation issue, happens with koi, not sure if apply to tank) 7) lost a normal clown fish also After a few weeks, lost about 7 corals, so many mishap, rescaped to have a better view, better flow, and looks bigger! Grieving over, moving on to slowly build on the tank again. Added some new fishes. Here is the new scape

I faced a similar situation, wiped out 5 of my Euphyllia. All died with brown jelly looking stuff around the skeleton of the flesh. I tried freshwater dip with each new purchase before putting them in my tank but it doesn't work. Keeping as a minimalist now.

Haven't posted for long. Lost many corals due to unknown reason even though parameters were stable but this fellow survived. "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance."

Mimic Octopus!!!! Oh my oh my.... I wonder the size. Anyone saw it yet? -
My personal thought is, I would. More media means more bacteria and cope better w higher bioload. And when my FR fail me, it won't be that bad cuZ my liverocks and media can cope for 1 day or so while I fix my FR. Personal encounter was my FR failed me and created much more spikes in parameter. I just off it and let my normal filter works. Although I lost 4 corals to the parameter spike before I managed to fix the FR, my tank recovered fast with existing bacteria to cope w the bioload while it regenerates and starts bacteria from my FR. Just some noob thoughts.

The initial cloudiness indicates bacteria bloom which will settle down in a few days time. I notice that the cloudiness is cleared faster with skimmer vs no skimmer. Personal observation. Add half a dosage or less and slowly increase to prevent bacteria bloom and cloudiness

WTS: Electric Blue legged Hermit Crab
Planted replied to Planted's topic in Sell off/Pasar Malam Shop
oops. Size about 1.5 inch with shell This pal has changed a few shells and i'm glad it changed to this shorter shell. it used to house in long spiny shell which is interesting to see how it climb rocks. image from http://www.shells-of-aquarius.com/murex-shells.html Shells can be purchased from daiso or any value shops selling those loose shells in a pack. works well for my hermit crabs after washing and rinsing it clean. -
This crab has been with me for about 2 years. Active and always looking for food. Clearing due to it messing my coral in my small 15gallon tank. (I did not glue my coral and thus my little friend here often topple my light coral) Reef safe Sorry for the rotated picture, can't get it right. Selling at only $10 Collection at Sembawang (only for tanks that are stable, want it to find good home) Please PM me if interested

Shit..my octopus died within a couple of mins in my tank
Planted replied to Kuchiki's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I have not tried any sensitive fish (or that I know of) but for all invertebrate, I will usually take longer time to acclimatize them. I did not use drip method although that's what I would prefer. what I do: 1 ) put bag floating in tank for 30mins 2) Open back, roll and pour 1-2 small bowl of water from main tank into the bag depending on size of bag. (1 bowl amount = 1.5 shooter glass amount) 3) Top up with 1 - 2 bowl every 15mins. (stop if livestock behaves weird, increase oxygen which somehow works for me) 4) continue until bag full, then pour away half 5) repeat process until bag full 6) pour away, transfer livestock into main tank(if you can trust source, if not quarantine tank) This I did, and been doing. not the best way, but within my ability to acclimatize them slow and steady. And for the above livestock invertebrates, I will pour lesser water as they are often more sensitive. Successfully acclimatize starfishes, shrimps, crabs, urchins, and don't know what else. I recommend drip method too. -
Pending for collection, will update again. Thank you all for expressing interest

Went AC today and saw their beautiful corals in. Australia and Indo if I didn't hear wrongly. (AC laoban, let me know if no pic allowed here, will delete appropriately) I think I'm still grieving over my loss of coral. So no mood to make any purchase today. Went GO after that and saw many frogspawn and hammer. No pic from GO. Enjoy reefing everyone! -
I have 1 DIY led strip fixed on transparent board for 2 ft. I can let go at $35 cheap cheap. PM me if interested.
