Water: RO/DI or Distilled Water
Planted replied to hobgoblin's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
very old thread... but can check how much does it cost on average usage of RODI unit? eg. replace resin/filter etc every 1000litre of water? how much for the replacement? -
Cupramine works well for me. But don't overdose. I did overdose accidentally and my livestock died from it. :/ Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Seems like it's snail eggs. It looks super disgusting like the snail suck all these tubes out from within the rock. Like squeezing stuff out from our skin pores that feeling. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

in my own experience, I went through these: a tank takes nearly 2yrs (1yr plus plus) to stabilize and settle down (coralline algae building, other algae disappearing etc). By the time it settle down, lots of disappointment would have happened eg 1: system crash potentially due to lack of experience/knowledge or even say power failure etc, eg 2: fishes/corals can't survive long bla bla.. eg 3: pest and algae bloom etc eg 4: everything settled but livestock still die somewhat. lots of money spent to get disappointment (my euphylia tank wipeout, clearing few hundred worth of corals within weeks and still requires time to maintain well (water change, additives, removing unhealthy livestocks etc) isn't it easier to just give up rather than spending more money to "wastage"? then again, when tank stabilized, all I need is to WC, add additives and occasionally remove rocks to clean algae/pests not too bad la. :X

I agree. Maybe going back with sand.
-
Intend to try out bare bottom. Any advice with or without sand will be better?

Mine came in purplish too. After nearly 1 month with coral phytoplankton feed, color more pinkish under blue light. I think they look the same. Also don't know the name of this zoas.

New Project to transfer current 15 gallon tank over to this about 50 gallon tank with sump. As the base foundation is laid, the construction resumes. Filled the tank with make-do water as I decide to let it run longer for a few months before getting another rock and finally transfer. Tried Blue Treasure salt at very reasonable price. Have yet to test the parameters. Using some old rocks to run the tank for time being. Filter feeders on one rock. All surviving well. 3 snails added to help with algae prevention. Some facilities not built yet. May recycle old building facilities. For now. Tada!!! P.S. pardon for the rotated pictures. Can't rotate it with phone

Any Mithrax Crab shipped or spotted at east side farm? will be going shopping there during weekend Thank you in advance! -
Sounds good! I'm using side ios.. very limited. 3 chambers only....

Nice.. can feel the excitement with new corals! Small skimmers indeed true very hard. I had difficulty finding 3" x 3". Even IM Skimmer also more than 3". I remb I used boyu small skimmer in the past. Woohooo.... the skimmate is different from air stone driven.. ^^ but it makes water more warm. Nearly 30deg without fan and air con.

Wow.. gonna be good! how much did u invest in this reactor?
-
Eventually they will! You will see the algae lesser. Hmmm... recommend you to get those motor impeller type of skimmer, really will skim a lot out.
