Recommendation for Skimmer & Return Pump for Nano Tank
Planted replied to DottyClown's topic in Members Tank & Specs
I just bought reef octopus bh 1000. although size is overkill, it skimmed well in its first day! More to expect and this is really a worthy purchase. Bought it below 200. Can check dimension first as my tank is only 15gallon. It worked well for a 8w skimmer. -
I have been captivated by the beauty of marine planted. However, seeing my caulerpa racemosa melting, I decided my tank may not be suitable. I do like to try a simple tank with just pump and light. I've seen some of these tank while I was searching for ideas. ^^ still have much reading to do before attempting one.

I have 7 turban snails and 1 margarita snail but they seem to ignore long hair algae. Where is advisable to get abalone/turbo snails? the lfs I went only have turban as of now.

I would like to check if Turban snail = Turbo snail? thanks!

I would agree to the difference. I had recently bought a new bottle of 250ml Cure-Ich and is so diluted that I have to over-dose to see the impact. however, previously when I bought another 250ml in 2013, the solution is much thicker and 1.5cap would colorize my 15gallon tank a little. the ich will be controlled by the next morning and I only need to dose on alternate day so my fishes would not be stressed. with the new batch, I tried 2caps with no effect nor coloration, ich is still there. totally impact-less. I over dosed to 4caps and the ich grew worse on the next morning. it can only control for few hours (like human medication, need to take 3times/day etc). hope aquapharm can correct this issue.

anyone have recommendation for hang on back type of fluidized reactor for nano tank? observed increase of nitrate (suspect due to much feeding and addition of reefmax bacteria :X ) Nitrate shot to 20ppm, am working on reducing it.

nice shot!! so interesting!

I will be camping here too! Want to check w you on the effect of wp10 in a 2ft tank, what is the flowrate like in the tank? Suitable for lps or sps?

Yup, agree that the fake coral will collect detritus and algae, already collecting algae now. Hehe. Will be remove it when I sourced enough corals for the tank. Heh. Any recommendation of corals to replace the fake one? I'm using an Italian wavemaker that allow me to adjust from 800litre-1600litre/hr. Currently put it at the lowest or otherwise my alveopora and corals will close up. And my pump is a 600l/hr pump. using the rocks to block the wave from my bubble and alveopora at this moment.

update of new coral compilation.

just saw it coming out, I believe its Alveopora due to its 12 tentacles.

Very inspiring to a noob like me who is learning! Nice and natural looking!! May I check what flowrate is ur WaveMaker?
-
do you guys think I should get another wavemaker/pump to create more wave based on the corals I have? the top one is alveopora/goniopora (newly added, have yet to identify) if gonio, what is the flowrate I should be looking at? if alveo, should I leave it as it is now? currently the tank runs on 600l/hr pump, and my tank size is at 54litre /15 gallon. thank you~ your knowledge will come in handy in my learning journey in this hobby

Update of my tank phone died, the rest of the pictures gone >.< Will update the pictures when my phone is done repairing.

Ahh I see. Thanks for clarifying!

Hee hee. I'm new to many marine terms. What is GFO?
-
Seems a challenge to grab macroalgae without going to farm.

Indeed man needs a lot to replicate nature! I'm seeing all the knowledge in this thread alone. Enough to keep me "wahhhhh, $$$$ ". That's a nice clean tank! diy skill also very high. Believe the effort will bring forth a nice tank in near future to come.

I love the creativity. Reminded me of some tank maker show on tv. From past experience, poor lighting is the cause of my coral's death. need to balance lighting and temperature. I really like the innovativeness!

Hee. I hope its not too big to manage nor too small to mess up parameter with. Ohh. I have 2 hermits which keep patrolling on sand bed and rocks. Flipping some small rocks at times. I also have 2 snails (forgot the name) which are 24/7 under the sand.

I'm using IOS, if you are referring to the cluster of coral chips at the left side corner, that's to prevent the sand from entering the bottom inlet of the ios wall. (Like IQ5 there is both top and bottom inlet) If you are referring to the coral chips around the tank, I use them to increase PH in the past but can remove ) Hope that helps to clear the confusion. Hee thank you!
-
Thank you everyone for your encouragement! hope this would be a success. As this is my first time using IOS, I'm using the coral chips to block the bottom inlet to prevent sand from clogging. do not know if this is necessary, feel free to advise me! Yes, the corals on the left are artificial corals, just put a plate of mushroom on top the green fake monti heh.

My humble tank. First in 2.5ft tank with chiller and canister for 1 yr plus Then to 2ft tank with internal pump without chiller, temp went up to 31 recently due to hot weather. For 3 mths. Finally to this 2ft ios tank with chiller. For as long as possible.
