  1. Hope you have some rough idea. Maybe you can share your tank size that you intend to get and we can all share what equipment to look for? When all equipments are gathered, you can start to cycle and wait for your lovely tank to mature.
  2. Sad to hear the crashing. But I really like the clean and clear idea. Hope your sps recovers well! On a side note, ur house looks like the yishun new houses. Haha.
  3. Agreeable with what pcw shared. No budget restriction, you can follow the below from my humble experience 1) Start to plan what kind of marine setup do you want? [Reef/Fish only with live rocks(fowlr), and what kind of fishes] This may give you a guide on how big you want your tank to be. Angel or butterfly fishes need bigger tank. Bigger reef is nice but that means more corals and more exp. but when the corals expand and color shows nicely, you know it's worth it. ^^ 2) depending on your tank size, your equipment varies. Stronger pump, stronger chiller, stronger skimmer, bif get sump and more media. With budget constraint, you may have to reverse the process 1) set your budget, search for items within your budget. Compare between stores or websites. 2nd hand items can still be good. I bought a 2nd hand chiller that has been used for 1.5yrs I think, and I continue to use for 2.5yrs without issues. 2) plan your type of marine. Higher budget that allows you to get corals plus equipments, then grab them. ^^ if not fowlr can be nice as well. Each setting has its beauty. Haha. The above is just a humble opinion from a newbie myself too! ^^ hope it helps. My advice, a good infrastructure gives good tank. Some money are worth to spend. I bought a first hand skimmer+ 2nd reactor w NP pellets and pump at nearly 300, helps me combat algae well, saved much time and discouragement. I was advised and bought a lighting for coral that cost about 400. I reused an old chiller which cost about 200-300. And guess what.. my tank is only 2ft ._." Exclude rocks, fishes and corals. Yet it's really worth the spend though I felt the pinch.
  4. Ranging 1 foot to 2 foot for quarantine. I tried live rocks but I decided not to. If you add medicine, it may disturb the bb and cause more para spike. I love copperband butterfly but very hard to get it feeding. Had one that feed on live clam but died due to parameter changes when my elegance died.
  5. I read different trains of thoughts. Some recommend to skim so as to keep the water quality closer to ur DT, easier for acclimatization. Some recommend just sponge air pump and nothing else. Both requires water change every 2 days from what I read. Reason being no beneficial bacteria ammonia/nitrate spike very fast. Let's ask around and hear more then?
  6. Just a very humble advice. Quarantine ur fishes well or get from reputable reefer. I had a wipe-out of my tank after adding some fish that I suspect has ich but never show signs. Tangs are very susceptible to ich. Beware of adding too many fishes at a time. And if u want to add tang last, quarantine real well to prevent wipe out.
  7. Life distilled 1.5litre has added Na. May not be as "distilled" as it is. I'm using ntuc although didn't get to measure tds. Corals appearing fine for the time being. Anyone measured tds for ntuc pure drinking water before?
  8. What kind of algae? It took me 2-3 months with improved "infrastructure" to keep it minimal. Good protein skimmer, NP pellets, phoszorb, no3 removal, liquid carbon, de*nitrator and macroalgae, reduced lighting, many snails and some hermit crab. All the above for a 2ft side ios tank. :/
  9. Very nice blenny! Glad to see an interesting tank. Haha. My tank, undergoing revamp, waiting for more corals before I can post again.
  10. My thought was, what is wtf stands for this thread. Heheh Anw, I saw another one in taobao. But for smaller Pico tank. TS, what is the tank volume? http://h5.m.taobao.com/awp/core/detail.htm?id=16131891079&sid=1066999a57c871b27dd7eb2301ee94aa&abtest=1&rn=50a8844861a6c2ad3fc053fbafb4a6df
  11. I saw side ios tank going for 60-100. The higher price includes filter. I'm using IOS with hang on back skimmer and two little fish reactor. 2 pumps in my ios, 1 for reactor(NP pellets) 1 for chiller. if able to adjust, 1 pump to reactor then down to chiller will be easier. media I use de*nitrator, sponges, phoszorb or something like that. Few live rocks. Doing well w the current set up. The only con is limited space in main display. Hope that gives u some guide ^^
  12. I had Hair algae bloom. Added snails, NP pellets reactor, no3 zero, liquid carbon and finally overkill skimmer. The result comes best after introducing skimmer. Removed a lot of dirty stuff from water. Hair algae no nutrient to grow, reduced.. left a tiny bit in a total of 2 mths time.
  13. Hi hi, wonder if you are using any skimmer?
  14. Hi all, I am learning about Maxspect Razor light schedule for LPS. Anyone kind to share your time + %, and the growth of your LPS? Many thanks to help gain an insight into this hobby.
  15. I used to have bleached corals and the reason I was told is that too much white light. give it more % of actinic light helps to retain the color. (I tried and it work for me, so just a suggestion to share)
  16. I felt it's quite subjective. Some corals suppose to have strong current decided to like moderate current. I had gradually adjusted to ensure all is fine in my tank. Let's hear out. And by strong, how strong are you referring? The flowrate and tank size give a better gauge?
  17. Hi, I don't have any link My para is as such Kh: 10 Ca: 440 approximate MG never measure Salinity 1.025. When sufficient light is there, my lps expand very big and I had to relocate them. Weekly water change of 10-20% and that's how I maintain. Hope it helps.
  18. Agree that 10% water change is sufficient. My lps have expanded with this method and even alveopora growing well
  19. Agree with stronger skimmer. Using bh1000 for my 15gallon. It skims a lot out. Very satisfied with the outcome.
  20. I used reef octopus bh1000 for my 15gallon.(2ft w side ios) Overkill but I love it for how much it skimmed.(skimmate as smelly as terrapin's dirty water. Where do you prefer the skimmer to be? in the tank or out of tank? Boyu have a few small in tank type but may heat up water due to space size. so need chiller. If no chiller I recommend dymax iq skimmer and choose a pump w stronger air output. Then change ur limewood airstone regularly and if can get sander brand better.
  21. I think u can google them as my set is working now and it's hard to measure due to space. I'm using a normal 2ft tank with a slightly higher height. And it's just nice. Anything smaller may be a challenge for this huge skimmer. 2nd day of skimming, it's skimming a lot of brown and dark green particles out. Awesome. Water is clearer.
  22. Check on taobao, I once saw a chiller the size of coke can and able to chill well for nano. Price is very reasonable also.
