I was told too oversize the tank may not generate enough waste for the skimmer to push the skimmate through the large neck and end up skimming less. So the best is to right size not over size.

I tell u nitrate at 40 u already "Wow". If I tell u my phosphate at 5ppm I'm sure u will faint. Hahaha Anyway I'm lowering it using massive water change, caribsea phos remover and bio-sphere. The last reading is 1.2ppm. I have also removed my sump DSB and siphoning out my shallow sand bed. Will be putting a lot of wave maker to make sure debris are suspended. If all these still don't work u will see my post on decomm sales. Hehehe

I am using deltec ap1003 out of sump skimmer. The skimmer is rated 5000L. Way over spec. Now im looking for skimmer that meet my tank spec and not so "kick-ass". Hehehe.

Lighting is par38. My nitrate about 40. Phosphate too shy to mention. Hehehe.

My tank is 6 x 3 x 2.5 and 1200l. I mostly keep LPS and softies. My PO4 is very high now and working hard to bring it down.

Any update on this topic? Looking to upgrade my 2 x eheim 1262 return pump to higher flow low consumption pumps. Tks

Looking to change out my skimmer. Currently considering the following: (1) deltec SC2060, (2) Vertex 200 (not sure alpha or omega), (3) bubble-magus Curve 29. All comments or suggestions are welcome.

I'm thinking to retire my Deltec AP1003 skimmer after using it for the last 6-8 years. The reason is that after a while, there is slight leakage around the seal and I hate to mob the floor all the time not to mention the power consumption of 4 x eheim 1260. I'm thinking to get an in-sump skimmer that is large enough for 1200L. My only problem is that my cabinet has height restriction of no more than 24 inches. Anyone knows of good and short skimmer for larger tank that you can recommend? Preferably one that is low power consumption. Thanks.

So bio-sphere can reduce phosphate to 0mg/l too?

Hi, I have been out of marine for quite some time and recently started to get back into the hobby. Just want to check if DSB is still an "in-thing" now or it has been out of fashion? How many reefer in Singapore still use DSB and what sand do you use? How deep is the sand bed? Are we supposed to change out the sand after 3-5 years? How long does it take for the DSB to mature? If not DSB, what else to use (other than macroalgae) to export PO4 and NO3? Thanks.

I have a 6x2.5x2 tank (around 1.5 ton of water). I currently keep lps and softies. If I change 10% per week like what most reefer suggest, that will be 150L per week. Is that excessive? Anyone with similar size or bigger tank can comment how much and how often you change water? Do you use NSW or salt mix? Many Thanks.
