My simple setup

My BTA looked half died after a month, i can see that a huge portion of it melt away. I should have put it back into the sea but due to i urgently need to commit to something else at that time, in the end i just threw it down the bin. As a replacement I have got myself a torch with multiple heads and it is about three weeks ago.

Out of so many votes i see that 32 people never change water at all. Any of the 32 Sifu(s) out there, care to share what are the additives you use to maintain your tank? changing water every week is a very tiring thing for me, especially when commitment are getting more and more.

Yes agreed have read about that somewhere. Currently using H2 Ocean as many preview indicate that it has constant properties. Previously using Tropic Marin Pro Reef, it is a very good salt because i can see that even alge also growing very fast(i uses trap water), fishes are swimming in a calm manner. i often over feed, for my case. http://www.tropic-marin.com/web/english/produkte/proreef-meersalz-vergleich.htm this website recommend to use normal tropic marin salt . The problem with normal tropic marin salt is that it has lower calcium so i switch to H2 Ocean.

Dear Folks, I have a torch, hammer, clove, red sea fan, blue sea fan, common tube worm, white coco worm, a few unknown mushroom and 3 white tube worms. Water in tank is about 90Litres Picture is as attached. I think my tank is lightly stocked do you? i intend to do only 20% water change every week and dose nothing. I don't have a calcium test kit. I have did some research in the net and have did some calculation. Assuming that my calcium consumption rate is 20ppm per week. A newly make saltwater has 420ppm of calcium, 20% of water change will not bring the calcium level to 420ppm. Every water change will only bring back the calcium level by a bit. The calcium in my tank will keep decreasing and become stable at 340ppm because the weekly water change i perform can maintan this level. Calculation is as follow: 1st water change= 420ppm-20ppm=400ppm, 20% water change will bring the calcuim level to 404ppm (calculation: 404ppm X 4 + 420ppm div by 5 ) 2nd water change=404ppm-20ppm=384ppm, 20% water change will bring the calcuim level to 391.2ppm (calculation: 391.2ppm X 4 + 420ppm div by 5 ) 3rd water change=391.2ppm-20ppm=371.2ppm, 20% water change will bring the calcuim level to 380.96ppm (calculation: 371.2ppm X 4 + 420ppm div by 5 ) .......... and so on until the calcium level is a constant 340ppm after every water change. 340ppm of calcium can be found in many sea area. Dosing is not require if i uses good reef salt. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Folks can share your calcium consumption rate for a week, plus a picture of your tank?

As on subject , i want to trade for a 6.67Kg H2 Ocean pro saltmix. I don't mind open one but please trade with at least about 5kg or more remaining. Both the items i am trading cost me 41 bucks , they are both opened , only two small scoop from each of them were used. reason for trading: my tank are under stock , adding these additives are not require, for my setup weekly water change with a good saltmix is more appropriate. Bro, thanks for your points, i'm actually quite budget conscious on certain expenditures, 40 to 50 bucks a month for chiller electricity bill, i feel a bit expensive. Currently with my budget and time to spare i can only target on more hardy fish/coral species. I notice that though a chiller is not in use , my clove/hammer/tube worm are really growing well. Except for my BTA ,can feel that it is declining i have to change water twice a week to make it look more lively , it is a waste of saltmix in this case. It sometime like to float around and because my tank is shallow so i 'm in constant worried that it will get caught in the powerhead, Am considering giving it away and get a torch coral heard it is more hardy.

Allow me to extract out the key sentence in the above link. "you will see that a vast majority of coral reefs are found where water temperatures are between 80°F and 89°F." I believe maybe we can go green without chiller for certain species of coral, the trade off may be more water change due to higher temperature(hence higher metabolic rate)

i agreed partially , i usually visit JrehM once a month , i see the usual same coral as permanent resident in the tanks(display tank/no chiller). I could recognize the corals because they are much bigger. Yes some LFS are selling so fast that by the 2nd visit most coral in the tank( without chiller) are gone.

..em.. not aircon room, no chiller no fan.... i'm worry that after reading this reply those chiller seller will kill me some addon, only hardy LPS/softies can surive without chiller in singapore. Surive for how long? i 'm still searching for answer.

What you said is true enough for most LFS. However i have seen 4 tanks in jrehmarine that run without any chiller and the coral look healthly.

wow cannot, that is way over my budget, my current electrical bill is only about lighting 39Wx2x6hoursx31days + canister 11Wx24hoursx31days + wave maker 3.5Wx24hoursx31days = $6.40 . The money that i save from getting a chiller will be use to get more fishes and hardy coral by the way my tank is a 3 feet and it is very lightly stocked.

I see , Thanks！ Agree my temperature is high. Monthly electrical cost is my main concern because of that i decided not to go with a chiller. I have seem some people and LFS that doesn't use chiller, yet they can keep healthly softies and LPS. By giving my anemone good lighting, water and food , hopefully i can keep it at least close to healthy i like to ask another question here , any bro and sis here( in SIngapore) able to keep bubble tip anemone for a year without using chiller or aircon?

i got one white and blue t5 light rated at 39w each and my tank is shallow , only 1 feet tall. I have a timer that turn the light on from 6pm to 12am Sometime i pour a few drop of plankton straight into it mouth. I have no chiller and fan but temperture is always between 28.0 to 29.+ degree I perform weekly 15% water change with Tropic Marin Pro Reef Am i performing the correct care for my anemone?
