Chicken wire is metal right? Will there be corrosion. Actually will monitor for a while if I will still need the cover on.

Thank you. The canister filter I had only opened it up once for cleaning which is after the cycle. I had filter floss in it during cycling and there is this micro bubbles spray from the outlet once in a while. Now I don't use any filter floss(wool) or sponge in the canister, just biohome. Is it still a nitrate factory since there is nothing to trap the dirt inside? It is just like a return pump with extra 7 ltr water added to the system.

Hi Has anyone had one of this running already? Would like to hear your opinion and the equipments for it. ie size and type of skimmer, return pump I am considering buying one for housing my pair of perc clownfish and inverts only. Is 36 watts enough for RBTA?

Probably will get a very small HOB filter with surface skimming. I am using Life brand distilled water bought from NTUC. Diatoms is just unsightly and as you say will go away and I hope very soon. Thanks bro for the valuable inputs.

Forgot to add I have bought a cover for the tank just in case so nothing jumps out. It's a shallow tank...

Second month update : First true perc jumped(rip), happened 4 weeks ago. Must be the damsel fish which I gave it back to the lfs. Added a cherub angelfish and crocea clam yesterday. A pair of true perc today which is already hosting a torch coral.(couldn't resist) Last picture is what I use to scoop the water surface gump once every 2 days. By the time I am finished it is easily over 1 ltr of water changed besides the weekly 15pct. Still having diatoms in my tank,

Yes. So what do I do to improve the condition of the gonio...it still looks fine to me?
-
Bought it from a shop at Jln Lekar. It is white in colour in the display tank before they bag it. Looks very light green in my tank.
-
Thanks. So it's bad huh....I bought it on thursday.

Hi I have search the web but could not find what I have in my tank is. Please help to ID it. It's the middle one in the picture and very light green in colour. Thanks.

No return pump. The canister filter flow rate is rated at 1050l/hr so it is tank->filter->chiller->tank and the flow from the outlet is pretty strong. I suppose I am not using any filter floss or sponge inside the canister that is why the flow rate is not inhibited. Think I don't need to open it up every week for maintenance. The filter is acting as the pump. Just 10-15pct water change every week to replenish trace elements.

Thanks I like the setup also but don't have a nice tank full of corals yet unlike you. Read alot on the web that's about it...perhaps you could guide me.hehe.

No coral yet so am just using only the Dymax for lighting. Will remove when I add coral.

The IQ5 has been decomm, sand and live rock moved to a 2ft tank....just so I can keep a single clownfish. Azure damselfish will give away once it reaches 2 inches. Can still pm me about my IQ5 setup and I try to answer with what little I know of this new hobby of mine.

Another 3-4 weeks when the cycling is done(or it may have already) and I put the 1st piece of coral in will post up a new thread. Still waiting to get a MP10 from the bazaar. Already have a chiller and Maxspect led for lighting. Getting a monitpora frag(green one) to be the first coral in the tank. I know, I know start with soft coral and LPS but I read monti is one of the easy SPS.

Very good silicon work on the ADA. I paid half the price for a custom built(still very expensive for a 2 footer). Still ADA is my first choice. Pictures of my tank. I put a Azure Damselfish in it, got bored looking at the rocks.
-
Only the tank is similar..lol, mine is only with live rocks. It's 6mm glass and I find it too thick, should have gone with 5mm since only 18cm tall. I like the setup for it's clean look. Will post a pic later this evening.

It's a ADA 60-F 60x30x18cm shallow tank. I was looking for it but could not find one, only the ADA 60-P is available. Custom made one with low iron glass and has been cycling for 3 weeks.

You are better off with regular water change, at least once a week. All the trace elements will be replenished from the salt mix. Have a 10 ltr or smaller tub/pail of salt mix standby for water change since volume is small. Eg.Let's say if I have a 100 gallon display tank and I have storage space for 50 gallons salt mix I will do away with a skimmer and do weekly 20pct water change. But this is not possible and salt is not cheap. If you must have a skimmer for your IQ5 there is one from Dymax specially for it, thinks it is $20 plus.

Filtration is adequate. More important is regular water change, easy since volume is small. Don't think a skimmer works for such a small tank, just scoop water from the surface into a small pail. There is Ah Beng shop at Pasir Ris Farmway 2 also. The Dymax Vortex fan is loud. For an IQ5 there is only a tiny selection of what you can put inside it. Continue learning sure can make it. Then you want a bigger tank and better equipment so long budget permits.

Nothing much except the coraline algae is slowly spreading, some brown green algae too on the LR. I got them from Coral Farm since the quantity is small, no smell from day one. Should not have put 300g of biohome plus in since I realised now biological filtration is done by LR, only mechanical and chemical media is what I should be putting in. What to do coming from freshwater. Still cycling as I will add LS after 3 Jan 2012 when I return from my trip. If you are setting up a IQ5 you can buy distilled water from NTUC or Esso station. Brand is Life pure distilled drinking water. 8 plus bottles to fill tank, 1 bottle for weekly water change(after adding LS) and occassional top-up. Salt if you are not keeping coral get the cheapest type.

Hi Thanks for comming into my thread. -Cooling will be just fan/s so that would limit the choices of coral to very few hardy ones. -Par 38 can always use for my upgrade tank when the times come. Or a Par 30 if it is still available. I have 7-8 weeks to mull over which corals I want to keep. Actually I am already thinking of getting a ADA 60-F tank with 2 Eheim canister filters.(alternate the cleaning) -Sun corals that's what I thought, lots of heads mean lots of feeding. But definitely will get a small colony with a few heads.
