Its not really a matter of whether adware is good or not, its just personal preference. I don't really like the idea of files, or applets stored on my system without my permission. My work requires me to visit some underground site, somehow I'll be redirected. There are popup killers which are useful, some of them can be blocked by editing your hosts file. This break gave me some time to administrate the boxes at home, so thought you guys can do some housekeeping as well hoppinghippos, I'm sure those kids with raging hormones have a better idea of which site to visit than us . The sites I gave should provide some links for useful information

While you guys are online searching for ######, or what else to satisfy your fantasies, you'd be surprised to know just how much of crap you have unknowingly downloaded onto your system. Spyware ... adware ... applications / applets which invades your prvacy or worse, malicious software which can cause some REAL havoc. Anyway, my last run of Ad-aware a month ago gave me shock. My latest run of Spybot gave me a rude shock. Just a month and I have twice as many alerts. So do yourself a favour and get some spyware/adware detection software to clean your computer system. For the more interested, there is SpyBlaster which can detect, clean and prevent spyware ActiveX controls.

Tanzy is absolutely right. Concept is ok, but may not be so practical and risks are high. A dimmer of sorts will be safer and more efficient. Please do keep the concepts coming so we get on with some engaging discussions. These days the topics are SOOooooo boring ...

An intank pod refugium isn't an impossibility. I have a corner which the rocks are packed so tightly even my Fridmani could not get in. I see many pods congregating in that enclave in the day, they then swim out when the lights are off when the fishes are asleep to feed. SeaAngel, pods are as nautral a food your system can produce. Some of them are known to be benthic, I notice a population bloom if I keep up my Phytoplankton dosing. Run a search on the Internet on Copepod, or Amphipod and you'll get a wealth if information and pictures.

There we go ... even if there is a decent uptake, the grow space and uptake ratio does not work out to be within reasonable range. Point is, the absorbed nutrient (NO3, PO4, etc) should go somewhere, preferably into building mass. So any macroalgae which grows at a fast rate should be a good media for nutrient export. Something that does not crash easily is a good consideration, lest you release everything back into the water.

Why don't someone try a mangrove sapling in a 1 gallon tub of used water, benchmark the NO3, leave it in the sun (protected from any rain contaminants) ... and test it after a week or so? That way we can at least get some closure ...

I do not think the source of your information can be any more reliable -
Think the gun ads Samuel L. Jackson was watching on Jackie Brown ... (AK47, when you absolutely, positively, gotta kill every mother@#$&er in the room, accept no substitute) Siglap has yet to respond somehow ...

Watching 'the Practice' ... very interesting case, must admit Kelly is a genius, can't concentrate ... throwing ideas as I would in any brainstorming session. Agree, Kopitiam (a.k.a Sump) can go on as it is, however it should be restricted to the section, and that alone. That would also be where I would discuss with other fans of Kelly's. There is quite a bit to be done, drawing up a comprehensive and wide covering Terms and Condition for use of forum which all members are required to acknowledge and comply. We do have legal professionals to assist. Thereafter, a reverification exercise to be conducted to weed out multiple, redundant accounts. Some grace period would be given. Then, followed by heavy moderation / enforcement. That is a basic 3-prong approach, you guys can develop and flesh it out

Frankly, threads like these do not further the purpose of the forum, therefore I really don't have anything constructive to add. However, the sub-topic of how we can revamp this site may be of use. If I may suggest, lock this topic until we can compile them together with all similar threads into a Skimmate Section; where all forumers should strive to avoid. Then start a fresh topic to continue the revamping discussion. Now at least we can see some form of yield.

Impossible to use a laptop these days
KingFish replied to Achilles Tang's topic in General Reefkeeping_
My laptop is on my lap most of the time. I place an old magazine between me and the laptop, and a jewel case between the laptop and the magazine to allow air movement. That's all ... no complicated device, no burns, no OS hangs -
A number of hobbyists have attempted using more than 1 protein skimmer, the verdict is exactly what AT has mentioned. But I suppose it differs from tank to tank. You can try and post the results. If both skims well, excellent, otherwise it serves no more than being an aerator and adding more heat transfer to your water.

I'd frag it if I could, it comes on a densely heavy rock. There are some spot where its bleached, will try to take a picture of that. Perhaps I'll also take a picture right after the lights come on, maybe then we can get a close look at it.

Have not notice if its started encrusting yet. Leptastrea Pruinosa is as close as I can get.

Had this piece for a month or so. Small corallites of about 5mm, tightly packed in a random array. Skeleton between the corallites are visible throughout the day. Placed directly 6 inches away from 150w of T5s. What you see is what you get ... no actinics. I do not believe its Gorniopora or Porites.
-
If it is growing as you claimed, you can in fact frag your Seafan. The tissue should recover in time.

How to make water crystal clear
KingFish replied to MillionaireMachine's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Extract from the page: "This product was added to our catalog on Monday 12 January, 2004" So technically, if you click on the button now, Edmund can deliver, but before the 12/01, the distributor probably hasn't released the stock yet. So at best, those who claim to have tested ReefEZ Carbon may have mixed up the brand with another. Please do get your facts right
